Ubisoft Gets Ready For The Rainbow Six Siege Closed Beta Launch With New Trailer

The Rainbow Six Siege Closed Beta arrives tomorrow, giving fans who’ve pre-ordered the game some early hands-on time with a portion of what Ubisoft has to offer when it launches for everyone on December 1.

The Closed Beta will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC and will give players access to 14 Operators, 3 maps (both day and night), 2 adversarial game modes, and the co-operative Terrorist Hunt Classic game mode. The new trailer is above, where you’ll see some of the maps and game modes in action.

No NDA is placed on the Closed Beta, meaning you can capture and share footage or screenshots freely. If you didn’t pre-order and don’t want to, there’s also the chance you might get in by signing up for the waitlist.

Rainbow Six Siege launches on December 1 with 11 multiplayer maps. Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced that all downloadable add-on maps will be free for everyone in the months following release.

New Advanced Warfare DLC Brings Back Two Iconic Call of Duty Weapons Next Week

Next week, Sledgehammer Games is bringing back two of Call of Duty‘s most iconic weapons to Advanced Warfare.

Next Week, on September 29, Xbox One players will get yet another free update that adds the classic 1911 handgun and MP40 sub-machine gun to the game’s arsenal of Supply Drops and Advanced Supply Drops. Both weapons have been featured prominently in previous Call of Duty titles, the 1911 being a personal favorite of Captain John Price from the Modern Warfare series and the MP40 being featured heavily in the WWII games.

Both guns will launch with four variants, says Sledgehammer. As with previous weapon packs, finding a variant will also unlock the base weapon.

‘New Xbox Experience’ Rolling Out To Xbox One Preview Members Today, Watch The Video Walkthrough

Microsoft’s ‘New Xbox Experience’ is beginning to roll out to Xbox One Preview members, giving those who’ve opted in the chance to test out some of the console’s newest features coming to all audiences this November.

Above is a short video guide, courtesy of Xbox’s “Major Nelson” and Richard Irving, that walks through some of the new features that Preview Members will get to try out, starting today. Below, you’ll find a list of improvements to look out for, as well as instructions on how to opt-in, if you haven’t already.

Here’s what’s new:

A redesigned Home to help you truly jump in“While keeping the main section concentrated on your task at hand (say, getting back to playing Gears of War: Ultimate Edition), we’re introducing vertical scrolling and a rearranged interface to provide faster and easier access to your most-recently accessed games and apps. You can also easily share your achievements and clips with the Xbox Live community, see whether your friends are playing the same games, and enjoy one-click access to Game Hubs to get news and updates from the publishers themselves. Engaging socially on Xbox One just got a lot quicker.”

Quickly jump to Pins and My Games and Apps – “At the bottom of Home, you’ll have quick access to the games and apps that you have pinned. You can quickly jump between your pins and most recently played game by using the triggers on your controller. Right trigger will take you straight to your pins. A pull of the left trigger will take you back to your most recently played game or app.”

A new guide for fast access to essentials – “A new Guide lets you quickly access essentials with just one button press, and without leaving your game, to save time spent weaving in and out of apps. You can access the Guide from Home by pressing left or double tap the Xbox button on your controller to instantly overlay the Guide.”

  • Friends and Parties – “See which of your friends are online, join their parties, or click a button to instantly start a party and then add friends to it.”
  • Notifications – “Instead of having to go back to Home to launch the Notifications Center full screen, new notifications will show up directly in the Guide and be grouped to make them quicker and easier to navigate.”
  • Messages – “Just like notifications, multiple messages from a given friend will be both quickly accessible from the guide and neatly grouped.”
  • Settings – “Frequently-accessed settings like headset volume will be up-leveled in the settings section of the guide to make them quicker to get to in the guide while you are playing a game.”
  • Snap – “You now access your snap apps from the guide. In addition, apps snap to the left instead of the right.”

OneGuide is your single destination for TV, movies, and video apps – “Anchored to the right of Home, OneGuide is the place to quickly and easily see what’s trending on live TV and what’s new to stream across your favorite apps. With the new OneGuide, you’ll spend less time browsing and more time watching.”

  • Live TV – “Keeping with our focus on speed, OneGuide’s TV listings come up instantly and in full-screen, showing more channels at once. We also added picture-in-picture mode for TV, so you can browse OneGuide without missing what’s happening in your show.”
  • Movies and TV shows – “Explore more movies and TV shows with dedicated galleries, highlighting the best that Xbox has to offer from live TV and apps.”
  • App channels – “Discover new things to watch through curated channels of streaming video from apps like Hulu and FOX NOW. Accessible from the dashboard and throughout OneGuide, app channels help you find what to watch faster.”

A new, easier to navigate Store – “To the right of OneGuide, the new and improved Store features:”

  • Four easy to access areas – “Games, Movies and TV, Apps, and Music will have more real estate on the main Store page dedicated to surfacing top content to you.”
  • New vertical gallery view – “Using Games as an example, the all-new vertical gallery view within each area affords more listings to be showcased at a glance and the listings themselves are optimized for easier browsing with intuitive categories like Featured Staff Picks, New Releases, Top Played, Top Rated, Coming Soon and Recommendations.”

“With the New Xbox One Experience, we’re optimizing our design and layouts for speed, which means changes to the existing UI and features. Inspired by fan feedback and usage data, we’ve made your experience more intuitive by reducing button-presses, jumps and load times. A few examples of how we’re doing this are:

  • Game Hubs – “With more entry points throughout the new experience, the new Game Hubs provide similar content as the current Game Hubs but by changing the design we have improved discoverability and speed.”
  • Game DVR – “You’ll now go to the Game DVR app, instead of the Upload app, to manage your clips and screenshots.”
  • Achievements – “Your game progress can be viewed on your profile and you’ll find achievements in the Game Hub for each game. If you want to track achievement progress in real time while you are playing, you can do that by snapping the Achievement Tracker app.”

How to opt-in:

  • “We will roll this update out over time to Preview members who opt in for it. We’ll start with a set of Preview members who have historically submitted the most feedback – it will not roll out to everyone at the same time. Our goal is to start with a group, get feedback, then roll out to larger groups for additional feedback over time.”
  • “If you’re a member of the Xbox One Preview Program, you will get an invitation sent to you in an Xbox Live message.”
  • “From the invitation launch the Xbox Preview Dashboard and select the registration option.”
  • “You can then opt-in by selecting ‘Preview – New Xbox One Experience’.”
  • “If you choose not to participate in this update (you just leave your registration as preview), you will continue to receive ‘regular’ Preview Program updates going forward. This will not remove you from the Xbox Preview Program.”
  • “New builds will regularly roll out over a period of several weeks to those who opt in, and our engineering team will work to improve the features and fix any bugs they identify throughout the preview testing.”

If you’re giving it a spin, be sure to tell us in the comments what you think! Non-Preview Members, look out for the ‘New Xbox Experience’ this November.

All Rainbow Six Siege DLC Maps Will Be Free, Says Ubisoft, Will Launch With 11 Maps

In an effort to keep Rainbow Six Siege‘s online community healthy and playing together long-term, Ubisoft has announced that it will offer all post-launch multiplayer maps for free.

The tactical, team-based shooter will get 11 at launch, all of which can be played in either a day time or night time setting. Any map released beyond that will be downloadable for free, Ubisoft said in a statement on Reddit.

“Hello!

“We are glad to finally share with you that at launch, Rainbow Six Siege will have 11 maps, playable both day or night, all using the full potential of our Real Blast destruction technology. In addition, all post-launch maps will be downloadable for free. We want players to stay with us for the long term and have ambitious post-launch plans that we will detail at a later stage.”

Many recent and upcoming shooters, including Microsoft and 343 Industries’ Halo 5: Guardians, are following a similar trend, which we think it a good one. It keeps everyone on the same page, despite the amount of money each individual has invested into the game.

The Rainbow Six Siege Closed Beta for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC launches later this week on September 24.

DICE Confirms Dedicated Servers For Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront may be dropping the server browser on all platforms in favor of skilled-based matchmaking, but hardcore shooter fans can rest easy knowing that a strong connection built on dedicated servers is still core to DICE’s online experience.

When the studio announced the new matchmaking system for their upcoming Star Wars shooter, not everyone was enthused, especially PC gamers who’ve enjoyed the freedom of customizable servers in their shooters for years. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean that DICE is adopting a peer-to-peer online connection any time soon. Star Wars Battlefront Lead Heroes Designer Jamie Keen confirmed with PlayStationLifeStyle that the game will still run on dedicated servers.

“We’ll still have dedicated servers. Absolutely,” Keen explained. “It’s one of the hallmarks of making sure we deliver an unparalleled online servers for the game.”

Dedicated servers have done a commendable job supporting multiplayer battles with large player-counts in games like Battlefield for years now, so it’s nice know DICE’s Star Wars Shooter will enjoy similar benefits.

Fans will be able to experience the online action first hand next month when the official Star Wars Battlefront Open Beta launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC with three maps and three modes.

343 Industries Explains REQ Packs & Micro-Transactions In Halo 5: Guardians

This fall, 343 Industries is introducing a new way to unlock goods in Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer through the use of the game’s new REQ System. REQ Packs contain randomized rewards from three different categories: cosmetic, permanent, and single-use.

Only some REQ Packs — cosmetic ones, to be specific — can be used in Halo 5: Guardians’ 4v4 Arena Multiplayer. In Warzone, Halo 5’s 24-player plus AI multiplayer mode, nothing is off the table. Cosmetic, permanent, single-use packs can all be used.

343 says players will be able to purchase REQ Packs, but will still need to “level up and earn the right to use them, same as everyone else.”

Over 1,000 REQ Packs can be found at launch with hundreds more to come in the eight months following. To get a better picture of what Halo 5’s REQ System is all about, check out the humorous video above, featuring the one and only Mister Chief.

Halo 5: Guardians hits Xbox One on October 27.

New Metal Gear Online 3 Demo Showcases Class-Based PvP Combat & New Team Mechanics

Brand new gameplay from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s online multiplayer component, Metal Gear Online 3, debuted earlier today from TGS 2015, showcasing class-based multiplayer battles with intriguing new team-based mechanics.

In Metal Gear Online 3, players can either use their Metal Gear Solid V Avatar, or create a brand new character to take into combat. From there, three different classes are at your disposal, each with their own strengths. The Infiltrator excels in close range combat and stealth with the ability to easily extract enemy intel via interrogation techniques. The Scout’s strength lies in his or her ability to support teammates from a distance, marking enemies on the map. Lastly, the enforcer is unmatched in heavy combat with his or her hight stamina and deadly heavy weapons.

In addition to player-created avatars, users can also play as a number of different Metal Gear Solid V characters like Venom Snake or Revolver Ocelot. While Snake can call upon his rocket arm to attack enemies from a distance, Ocelot can charge into battle with dual magnums.

The multiplayer demo highlighted Metal Gear Online 3’s Bounty Hunter mode, which is similar to classic Team Deathmatch, but with a twist. Extracting enemies from the battlefield with a high killstreak will add those tickets back to your ticket pool, potentially providing your team an opportunity to massively change the tide of battle.

Be sure to give the full demo a watch and tell us what you think in the comments below!

Metal Gear Online 3 launches October 6 on consoles and early next year on PC.

Here’s What’s New In GTA Online’s Freemode Update, Now Live On PS4, X1, & PC

Freemode just got a lot more interesting in the world of Grand Theft Auto Online.

Today’s update on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC marks the introduction of a selection of brand new activities that players can take part in while in Freemode, without the need for any loading screens or lobbies. According to Rockstar there are a total of 11 new modes to participate in, as well as 19 different Freemode Challenges. On top of that, the update introduces two new Adversarial Modes, Cross The Line and Hunting Pack.

The Rockstar Editor also makes its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One “with several new features that have been added to it for all platforms – including an ambient audio and sound effects library, Snapmatic integration, Director Mode updates, and new fonts,” says Rockstar. The GTA Online Creator has also been upgraded with the “ability to properly stack and overlap Props, as well as the ability to save Prop templates that can be reused throughout custom Job creation.”

You can download the free update now, if you haven’t yet. Below are details on all of the new modes that are now a part of every-day life in Los Santos.

11 NEW FREEMODE ACTIVITIES

Hunt the Beast

“Become the Beast – a stronger, faster (and hairier) version of your character – and flee relentless pursuers all over Los Santos and Blaine County.”

King of the Castle

“An every man for himself turf war where you’ll need to ascend and claim the designated ‘castle’ as your territory – and then fend off everyone else as they go all out to dethrone you.”

Hot Property

“Grab the briefcase and go! Jump into a car, bike, boat, motorcycle, P-996 Lazer or just run for the hills with the coveted contraband in hand. Be one of the three players who hold the briefcase the longest to score GTA$ and RP bonuses.”

Moving Target

“The first player to enter a marked vehicle will become the Moving Target, tasked with safely delivering the vehicle to a designated location. While the marked vehicles will be durable, it’ll take some serious elusive finesse to survive other players’ attempts to destroy you before the drop point.”

Checkpoint Challenge

“Compete with all your Freemode competitors in a mad dash across southern San Andreas. Who will be the first to race or fly through all the designated checkpoints for fame, fortune and reputation?”

Kill List and Kill List Competitive

“Take control of some of heavy artillery and duke it out with the mercenaries from Merryweather Security. Rack up GTA$ and RP for each kill.”

Dead Drop

“Fight for possession of valuable contraband and see if you can make the drop first in this ruthless smuggler’s run.”

Penned In

“When you see the enormous dome appear over the Los Santos skyline, jump into the closest ride and find your way into it before the timer starts. Then, stay within the dome as it begins to move and shrink, smashing and bashing rivals out. Those who are left out of the dome for more than 7 seconds will explode. See if you can be the sole survivor at the very end.”

Criminal Damage

“Whet your appetite for destruction with an all-you-can-eat buffet. Get strapped with a favorite piece of heavy artillery and let loose over a given time period with no wanted level in sight. Wanton destruction is rewarded with every bullet hole and blast. The player with the largest property damage bill who causes the most destruction will win.”

Hold the Wheel

“A Sanchez, a Golf Cart or another otherwise humble mode of transport is made into an indestructible marked vehicle. Take command of it and avoid all the other jackers and assailants in your session to be the one in the driver’s seat when time runs out. Try and go for it solo to keep the entire GTA$ award for yourself, or shrewdly partner up with a gunner to ride with you for protection and split the earnings.”

Time Trial

“Record the fastest time possible, with a new course to master every week that awards you GTA$ and RP for beating our target time or your own personal best – and a championship worthy haul if you can take down the World Record.”

19 NEW FREEMODE CHALLENGES

“Compete in 19 unique Challenges against your Freemode friends and foes. See who can perform the longest jump, who can drive the farthest without crashing, who can fall the longest distance without dying, who can freefall the farthest before pulling their ‘chute – and many other ways to risk your neck to try and be a top 3 finisher for GTA$ and RP rewards.”

2 NEW ADVERSARY MODES

Cross the Line

“Heavily-armed squads face off across a neutral zone – with the goal of having all team members strategically penetrate their opponents territory to claim victory.”

Hunting Pack

“You’re part of a team tasked to deliver a priority vehicle rigged to explode if it drops below a minimum speed, while your opponents race, ram and batter to take it down.”

New Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Update Improves Player Animations & Hitboxes

A new update applied to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive today is bringing a few notable improvements to the way character models behave with new animations while also upgraded player hitboxes.

According to Valve, the new update “modernizes the player’s skeleton and hitboxes to better express at-a-glance exactly what your enemies and teammates are doing.” All existing body animations have been upgraded, while new ones like visible weapon deploys, bomb defusing, and ladder-climbing have also been added.

In addition, a few tweaks have also been made to weapons like the M4A1-S, Zeus x27, andDual Berettas. Valve says the studio plans to “continue iterating on animation in future updates…,” so expect more to come.

For now, have a look at the full update notes below.
