DICE & EA Reveal Star Wars Battlefront’s Season Pass Content Roadmap For 2016 & Beyond

Beyond tomorrow’s massive content update for DICE’s Star Wars shooter, Battlefront fans have a lot to look forward to in the months to come. Alongside new details of what’s arriving in Battlefront’s January update, DICE and EA outlined what the near and far future holds, both in terms of free content and content that’s part of Battlefront’s Season Pass.

Already, there’s stuff to look forward to next month.

“In February, we will continue to add more free content for all players, including a new Survival mission on Hoth, and a brand-new Hoth multiplayer map that will support our larger game modes including Walker Assault, Supremacy, Fighter Squadron and Turning Point,” EA wrote in a news update. “Speaking of Turning Point, we are also excited to make this popular mode available on all maps that currently support Walker Assault and Supremacy in the February update.”

“In March, we will be adding another exciting new multiplayer map on Endor that will support Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, and an additional Tatooine Survival map.”

As for what lies ahead, we also learned the names of three of the four expansion packs included in Battlefront’s Season Pass, along with a brief description. Looks like Jabba the Hutt’s palace, the Cloud City of Bespin, and the iconic Death Star are all marked on the roadmap.

  • Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Outer Rim (March 2016) – Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine
  • Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Bespin (Summer 2016) – It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin
  • Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Death Star (Fall 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017) – We will have more details to share about this exciting new expansion pack in the coming months.

Sounds pretty exciting. Personally, I can’t wait to see Bespin re-created in DICE’s Frostbite engine. I think there’s some serious opportunity there for some eye-boggling visuals. Fans of the older Battlefront games will no-doubt enjoy returning to Jabba’s palace and, of course, the Death Star.

As is the case with many EA games, Season Pass owners will get two-weeks early access to each expansion before they become available to purchase separately.

Looks good, the future of Battlefront does. Based on the descriptions we have so far, what expansion pack are you most pumped for?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC – Der Eisendrache Preview

The next episode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3‘s continuing zombies saga takes a turn for the medieval as Richtofen, Nikolai, Takeo, and Dempsey infiltrate a source of great mystery in “Der Eisendrache.”

Treyarch showed off the new zombies content in a brief gameplay trailer earlier today following a look at Skyjacked and Splash earlier this week, two new multiplayer maps also making an appearance in Black Ops 3’s upcoming Awakening DLC.

“In ‘Der Eisendrache’, Origins characters Richtofen, Nikolai, Takeo, and Dempsey embark on a suicide mission to an enemy research facility built upon an archaic site of unspeakable horror,” writes Activision. “Massive deposits of Element 115 have recently been discovered, delivering inspired new gameplay and — in Zombies tradition — a variety of plot twists and surprises to discover at every turn.”

You can watch the new trailer above. Keep your eyes open for new enemies and abilities.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC launches on February 2, first on PlayStation 4.

Destiny – PvP Matchmaking Update This Week Aims To Improve Crucible Connection Quality

Last week, developer Bungie took to the internet to address growing concerns over Destiny‘s current state of player-versus-player matchmaking in the Crucible, the game’s primary competitive multiplayer game mode. In addition to shining some light on the way the game currently prioritizes skill level and connection when matching Guardians together, the studio also promised improvements to help reduce latency, or “lag.”

In a quick update earlier today, Destiny Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague provided a few more details on the studio’s current game plan as more special PvP events like Iron Banner and the just-announced Crimson Days approach.

“When we shipped Destiny: The Taken King, we delivered a new system to better enable us to evaluate Guardians as combatants,” DeeJ wrote. “In the months that followed, we’ve been making adjustments to find the right balance between skill and connectivity. In light of recent feedback from the community, it’s very clear that we have more work to do. As that work progresses, I’d also like to pledge that you’ll be more included in that process.”

Starting on January 27, one day after this week’s Iron Banner event begins, Bungie will implement new matchmaking settings that the studio says “will assign more emphasis to connection quality.”

“These changes will be made in an effort to reduce lag,” DeeJ continued. “There will still be some consideration given to matching you with worthy adversaries, but that’s a thing we’ve done since Destiny first shipped.”

Bungie hopes to study the data gathered throughout the week and eventually apply the new settings to other Crucible playlists over time. “This is the continuation of a conversation in which you influence the development of Destiny,” DeeJ wrote in closing.

Sounds promising. What are your thoughts on Bungie’s proposed plan to reduce the weighing of skill level in Crucible matchmaking?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC – Splash Preview

One of Call of Duty’s most whacky maps arrives in Black Ops 3’s upcoming Awakening DLC, which developer Treyarch is showing off today in another brief preview video.

According to the description, Splash is set “in an abandoned water theme park” and aims to deliver “a new aquatic environment to explore in Multiplayer” with “vibrantly colored water-slides, a wrecked pirate ship, and a lazy river ride through a fantastical forgotten city.”

It sure looks bright, colorful, and unlike any other map we’ve seen in Call of Duty DLC. What are your thoughts on the unusual setting?

Last Friday, Treyarch previewed Skyjacked, a reimagining of one of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s more iconic maps, Hijacked. Later this week, we’ll likely catch a glimpse of Awakening DLC’s other two multiplayer maps, Rise and Gauntlet. There’s also more to learn about Black Ops 3’s newest addition to the zombies saga, Der Eisendrache.

Awakening DLC drops first on PlayStation 4 on February 2.

According to RockPaperShotgun, there is a “marked difference between PC and console,” at least from what they could tell at the preview event in Malmö, Sweden. Author Adam Smith said it was the “finest PC-specific version I’ve seen in recent times.”

According to Ubisoft’s latest post, multiplayer in the PC version of The Division is PC vs. PC only and the game won’t support modding due to the complex nature of the game’s open world.

The Division arrives March 8 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Excited to see some actual PC footage? What do you think of the specs and options so far?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC – Skyjacked Preview, More Intel Coming Next Week

Recognize the layout? Fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will know the map: a luxurious yacht sailing the ocean, host to a frantic battle between black operative forces.

It was called Hijacked and it’s coming back in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s first map pack, Awakening. This time, its called Skyjacked, and the re-imagined location now takes place aboard a more futuristic yacht floating high above an impressive cityscape.

Developer Treyarch released the short preview video today, mentioning on Twitter that more intel is arriving next week. By that time, we’ll likely get a better look at Awakening’s four new maps, Gauntlet, Splash, Rise, and Skyjacked, as well as more details on the new Der Eisendrache zombies mode. Treyarch released a short behind-the-scenes video last month as well, in case you missed it.

Awakening DLC launches February 2, first on PlayStation 4.

PopCap HD Reveals Garden Warfare 2 Loyalty Rewards For Owners Of The Original

With Garden Warfare 2 a little over a month away, PopCap HD is getting ready to open the lid on one of their biggest kept secrets; rewards for reaching the level cap in their previous shooter, the original Garden Warfare.

According to the PvZ’s Twitter account, those who managed to reach level 313 will receive a Legendary Unicorn Chomper in Garden Warfare 2. The studio showcased one of the new abilities for this special Chomper in a recent stream, which sees the burrow ability be replaced by a teleport.

While giving the most hardcore players a pretty sweet exclusive character variant, PopCap didn’t leave out those who played their previous title. If you reached a certain level, you’ll receive a free sticker pack once the game is released. You can view the image below to see what exactly PopCap will be handing out to people for reaching specific milestones:

Mortal Kombat XL Cover Art Revealed With New Details On Pricing

NetherRealm studios is dropping new details on pricing for a few of the different, upcoming Mortal Kombat packages that are set to launch in the near future.

The just-announced KL edition of Mortal Kombat remains at the cost of a normal-priced game, so if you’re brand new to MKX, Mortal Kombat KL is a great place to start. Additionally, there’s only about a $5 difference between the XL upgrade and Kombat Pack 2, so it might be worth going for the former if you’re already an MKX owner and are jus missing most of the original DLC. Kombat Pack 2 alone is $19.99.

You can see the full pricing for each package below:

Alongside the pricing reveal for both the new items, the cover art for Mortal Kombat XL has also been revealed, which, as you can see, features Scorpion’s long-time rival, Sub-Zero:

Mortal Kombat XL is set to launch on March 1 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Destiny’s PvP Lag Will Be Addressed In The “Near Future,” Special Valentines-Themed Event Arrives Next Month

Bungie is back from the holiday break with news of upcoming events, updates, and improvements to Destiny.

For the first time, Destiny will celebrate Valentines Day this year with a special event called Crimson Days. According to the studio, its scale is similar in size to last Halloween’s Festival of the Lost and will last for one week, starting on February 9th. More details about the event are to come, but what we do know is that Guardians can look forward to a new 2v2 playlist called Crimson Doubles. It’s a bit cryptic, but here’s what Bungie had to say about it:

“It features a special twist, born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate. You’ll need a dancing partner – preferably one that compliments your fighting style. The two of you will have a chance to earn some “sweet” loot together in the Crucible. To receive your gifts, you’ll have to put your differences aside and fight well as a couple.”

“Other improvements” are also inbound with the upcoming February Update, due to launch at the same time.

header_blog

Before then, the Iron Banner will once again test your strength come January 26 as Lord Saladin returns to the tower with new loot.

In his stock, he’ll have:

  • Rank 3: Class Item, PlayStation Class Item
  • Rank 4: Chest Piece, Scout Rifle
  • Rank 5: Fusion Rifle

Meanwhile, post-game drops will reward you with:

  • Rank 2: Boots
  • Rank 3: Chest Piece, PlayStation Helmet, Scout Rifle
  • Rank 4: Fusion Rifle

This time, instead of Control or Clash, Guardians will face off in games of Rift, which should put a bigger emphasis on objective play. Teams working together will have better chances to come out on top.

Rounding off Bungie’s Weekly Update, Design Lead Lars Bakken talked about matchmaking in the Crucible and how the game weighs player skill when looking for other Guardians.

“We have super-secret mathematical systems that measure your performance and rate you as a potential combatant,” he explained. “It is constantly being re-evaluated after every match, and we even use different skill buckets depending on what playlist you’re in. For example: Iron Banner playlist skill ratings are not the same as normal Control.”

“We launched The Taken King with an overhaul to the skill system that would let us gather information about how we can best prioritize a match. That work first began in October, beginning with the Control playlist. Over time, we’ve expanded the system to cover more activities in the Crucible. In December, we activated it in all playlists.”

Bakken promised that, moving forward, the studio will do a better job communicating these changes to players when they take place. In the near future, players can expect improvements “that are intended to help reduce what we call latency (what you call ‘lag’),” he added. “We’re looking through all the new data now, and we’ll be taking measures to improve the experience.”

Lag in PvP has been a major complaint of Destiny’s fanbase as of late, so it would be nice to see it reduced to a minimum as quickly as possible.

So, what do you think Destiny’s new limited-time Crimson Doubles playlist is all about? Excited to hear more?

Halo 5: Guardians – Spot The Halo 2 Battle Rifle In Infinity’s Armory DLC Launch Trailer

The exact release date for Halo 5: Guardian‘s next big content update is still under wraps, but developer 343 Industries has got a lot to show in the new launch trailer.

Infinity’s Armory is coming later this month with some of its biggest highlights being two new maps, three new armor sets, new weapon skins, new assassination moves, and much more. However, the big reveal in this particular announcement from 343 is the return of the Halo 2-style Battle Rifle, now a Legendary REQ Loadout Weapon.

I recommend watching the new trailer above. It’s pretty hip. Then, read on to catch some excerpts from the new Infinity’s Armory overview page on Halo Waypoint. You’ll find the full REQ gallery through the link.

What’s caught your eye? Tell us in the comments!

RIPTIDE

h5-guardians-arena-riptide-01-b1d8fc5e239646319cfce03e8210ebc0

The Created have wasted no time in extending their influence across inhabited worlds, burrowing into Forerunner machinery and UNSC information systems to turn terraforming equipment and world engines to their own grand designs. Unbound by the limited foresight of mortals, the agents of Cortana can reshape worlds into verdant gardens teeming with life after only a few decades of manipulation, but at much short-term cost. Scarred by wars both ancient and new, the Created have judged this planet to be in need to significant remediation and remodeling; shifting continents and oceans after the AI constructs carefully balanced the drawbacks and benefits of both limited extinction events and damage to the existing colonial infrastructure.

Players will need to quickly learn the winding routes of steel and sand to excel in the weathered structures of Riptide. By controlling the top catwalks, Spartans can analyze, pinpoint, and track down the enemy’s location.

URBAN

h5-guardians-warzone-urban-04-9cdab50b28034db49c848d58f4396549

In the aftermath of the Human-Covenant War, the underlying fractures in humanity that had precipitated the Insurrection once more became apparent. A dynamic combination of social engagement, reconstruction, and security operations was embarked on by the UNSC to disrupt nascent rebel movements, contain extremist politicians, and deny the Insurrection freedom of maneuver. The most difficult of these missions took place in the sprawling and densely populated urban metroplexes of worlds such as Andesia.

Urban is one of Warzone Assault’s open maps with many sightlines. The Armory is a hard base to fight over due it being on top of the grassy hill. Get some good sharpshooters on the overpasses to get some height to help control the fight.

HALO 2 BATTLE RIFLE

h2-br-module-03-76af109194b148699b5eab0bac98aa2f

This Legendary weapon first made its appearance in Halo 2 and has now returned in Halo 5: Guardians as a Mythic loadout weapon REQ to deploy in Warzone. The Halo 2 Battle Rifle is also unlocked in Forge for those who want to recreate Halo 2 maps and take their nostalgia to the next level.

BR55 – Battle Rifle fires 9.5mm rounds from 36-round magazine. Mounted with a 2X optical scope for targeting. Fires in short, automatic bursts of three rounds. Very accurate, relative high rate of fire makes it a useful all-around infantry weapon.

NEW CARBINE REQS

Rain of Oblivion

rain-of-oblivion-module-ee638f27c416485e9f2b8b741dcc1da9

Uncommon – The Rain of Oblivion’s grip has been held by a thousand heroes and a hundred villains. Upgraded Carbine with fully automatic action and extended magazine.

Blood of Suban

blood-of-suban-module-34ee8a38fdf44fceaa93d659864db1ea

Rare – The genius and talent of the artisan-armorers on Suban is only matched by their newfound avarice. Advanced Carbine that fires armor-piercing Needler shards. If multiple shards quickly strike a target they will create a “supercombine” explosion.

ACHILLES ARMOR SET

achilles-module-5506f66797eb4115a72c9acc0ca4474f

Armor: Only Spartans who have mastered themselves, bound their wrath and passion within a shell of hyperdense steel fueled by starfire, are granted access to the ACHILLES. Lesser warriors will lose themselves in a storm of blood.

To receive this armor your Spartan Company must achieve Level 3 in all Kill Commendations.

Helmet: The AI that lies within the branching lattice of the ACHILLES’ neural interface gnaws at the mind of its partner. No Spartan can stand alone against its urgings of unbridled excess, but through bonds of loyalty and duty they can be held at bay.

Spartan Companies must achieve Level 5 in all Kill Commendations to receive this helmet.

Leaked Images Of New Operators In Rainbow Six Siege’s Upcoming Black Ice DLC

Leaked images from Rainbow Six Siege‘s upcoming Black Ice DLC reveal two new operators hailing from the Canadian JTF-2 counter-terrorist unit and offer a first look at their new abilities and weapons.

According an “insider,” Black Ice’s new map takes place on a yacht stuck in icy waters, which clearly fits the theme of this multiplayer expansion. Allegedly, there’s also a new start screen:

R6S

Nothing has officially been announced by Ubisoft Montreal as of this writing, but, for now, you’ll find what we’ve got so far in terms of leaked images below.

We can speculate that Frost’s Mechanical Bear Trap won’t be detected by IQ’s scanner, nor will it be affected by Thatcher’s EMP grenades. Meanwhile, Buck’s under-barrel shotgun will likely make quick work of wooden doors and easily shred sections of wall into deadly kill-holes. Have a look and tell us what you think in the comments!

Officially, Rainbow Six Siege: Black Ice launches in February with the two new operators available first for Season Pass owners on the 2nd.

Mortal Kombat XL Arrives This March With All DLC, First Look At Tri-Borg This Sunday

If NetherRealm Studios’ previous two titles taught us anything, it’s that the Chicago-based studio typically releases a ‘GOTY’ edition of their fighters down the line. Now, Mortal Kombat X is no different.

The studio recently announced “Mortal Kombat XL,” a new edition of the game that inclused all of the released content so far, including the upcoming Kombat Pack 2. The reveal trailer is above.

For those with sharp eyes, you’ll also notice that the trailer includes glimpses of future costume packs, such as a cosplay pack that lets Cassie Cage and Jackie Briggs dress up as Mortal Kombat’s iconic characters, Sub-Zero and Scorpion, respectively.

Interestingly enough, it seems that Mortal Kombat XL may not be available for PC, as the announcement trailer and press release fail to mention anything about the platform. We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything.

Finally, if you have been eager to get a detailed glimpse of the first character to be released for Kombat Pack 2, you can this Sunday. NetherRealm Studios is set to broadcast a special Kombat Kast at 3:45 PM PST titled “The Cyber Initiative,” which, if you know your MK lore, hints that it will be devoted to the newest cyborg ninja, Tri-Borg.

Mortal Kombat XL is set to release on March 1 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. Those who happen to pre-order the upcoming edition of Mortal Kombat will also receive the aforementioned Cosplay pack.

Watch The Division’s New Live Action Video Series “Agent Origins” & Redeem In-Game Gear

Every agent has a story, four of which are told in a new series of live action short videos based on Ubisoft’s upcoming multiplayer RPG shooter, The Division.

The series was produced by Ubisoft in collaboration with YouTube film creators Corridor Digital, RocketJump, and Devin Super Tramp and tells the story of a team of sleeper agents as they’re first activated 18 days after the fall of New York City. In the game, you play as one of many agents who must learn new skills, discover the secrets of the outbreak, and face the same enemies introduced in these four shorts.

We teamed up with Devin, Ubi, and the RocketJump gang and produced four cinematic shorts set in the world of the game. It was an incredible experience, made possible only by the talented people that joined our team to bring this to life. Thanks for watching, and make sure to check out all four videos!”

Halo 5: Guardians – 343 Teases New Armor, REQs, & Maps In Infinity’s Armory Update

A lot is in store for Halo 5: Guardian‘s first content update of 2016 and developer 343 Industries has a few new hints to share with their fans.

In the studio’s latest weekly update, Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky stopped by with our very first peek at some of the new REQs, weapons, armor, and items arriving with the Infinity’s Armory update later this month. Looks like there’ll be a lot of cool new stuff to look forward to.

Halo 5

That Achilles armor set…

Here’s a better look at it:

Halo 5

As the teaser above reveals, three new sets of armor (Atlas, Achilles, and Mark V Alpha), two new maps (one for Warzone Assault and one for Arena), and a new Legendary weapon will be the star of this update. We’ll have to hang tight a little longer to see the rest, but 343’s developer live stream is next week, so keep an eye out for details

As for the new maps, Dudynsky explains that “Riptide is a brand new take on Fathom, and Urban is a Warzone Assault variation taking place on Noctus.” He add that the “art and design teams have been reviewing [player] feedback on remix maps, and there’s a strong focus on making these maps feel, look, and play like entirely new spaces.” Here are a few of the new screens that accompanied Dudynsky’s post:

Warzone Assault map – Urban

banner8-29e2e75a4d8841079c46fc288c7453dd

Arena map – Riptide

Halo 5

Head on over to 343’s latest update to hear from some of the developers on the new maps.

In the very near future, this weekend’s featured playlist is Rocket Party, and as 343 explained last week, keep in mind that the XP you earn in the weekend playlist has been doubled as of 2016. Here are the rules of Rocket Party:

  • “First and foremost, direct hits are instant kills. Remember this.”
  • “Players have unlimited ammo, no need to reload (bottomless clips), increased jump height, damage resistance, and faster Thruster recharge.”

For more Halo 5: Guardians updates, keep your sights on MP1st.
