Halo 5: Guardians Getting New Ball Game Modes, Griffball Returns This Month

Ball game modes are coming back to Halo 5: Guardians in 343 Industries’ latest content update arriving later this month, including a fan-favorite and something a little new.

Multiplayer Designer Max Grossman explains what’s in store in Halo 5’s next free update:

“Our first ball-based mode is an upgraded version of the classic Neutral Bomb Assault mode, simply called: Assault (cue Halo theme). The core rules are more or less unchanged: a ball spawns on the center line of the map and players must deliver the ball to the enemy team’s goal and it explodes (Woot!).”

Exact spawn locations will be different each time, but Grossman says players will be able to learn its order. The ball-carrier will have the ability to instant-kill with a melee, thrust more often, and sneak their way into the enemy team’s goal, as spotting mechanics will be similar to Capture the Flag.

For a more relaxed (and more familiar) experience, 343 is also throwing Grifball back into the mix. Grossman says the studio brought in Grifball expert Jeffrey “Nokyard” Fischer who built the game’s first Grifball Court that’s “unlike any Grifball court you have ever seen before.” He also worked with 343’s Weapon Designer, Daniel Wiksten, on “trying to get the damage and impulse blast of the hammer to feel right.”

“This collaboration helped us hammer out (pun intended) the delicate balance of Gravity Hammer vs. Sword vs. Ball that Grifball so heavily relies upon,” Grossman explains. “We leveraged Nokyard’s wealth of Grifball knowledge to try to make the most exciting Grifball yet, complete with thrusting Grif, Ground Pound kills, and ball throwing.”

Players will also enjoy support for ball game modes in Custom Games and Forge.

Finally, Halo’s Fiesta mode will also make a return this February.

Halo 5’s last big content update, Infinity’s Armory, dropped late last month, so we can probably expect a similar, end-of-month launch window for the game’s next one, which doesn’t appear to have a proper name just yet.

Be sure to read more on Halo Waypoint.

Destiny To Introduce New PvP Rules, “Freelance” Playlists, & Network Improvements In February

A few major updates are in store for Destiny‘s PvP crowd when the game’s next big patch arrives later this month, alongside the upcoming Crimson Days special event.

Affecting all Guardians in any 3v3 game mode, including Skirmish, Salvage, Elimination, and Trials, is a new change the Crucible team is making to Special Ammo (ammo for weapons like Snipers, Shotguns, Fusion Rifles, etc.).

According to Senior Designer Derek Carroll in Bungie’s latest weekly address, “after the [February] update, players will start certain matches without Special Ammo. Once the match has begun, those green Special crates will behave in the same ways you’re used to (although you may be looking for them a bit more).”

As for the reasoning, Caroll says that “the PvP team wanted to increase the use of Primary weapons, especially at match-start. Sniper rifles and shotguns, in particular, inspire great happiness or sadness depending on which end of the weapon you find yourself. We wanted to somewhat delay that gratification (and sadification).”

Gametypes with more players are being left alone as they “are generally less sensitive to initial conditions, which gives us more freedom to have Special Weapons going from the beginning,” Caroll continued. “Smaller gametypes like Skirmish are a bit more hardcore, with more weight applied to each player in the match, so we felt we could try pushing Primary weapons for those initial engagements.”

It’s a pretty interesting tweak, especially this late in the game. We want to know whether you think it’s for the better or not, so hit us up in the comments if you’re a regular Crucible-goer.

Meanwhile, players that typically enter the Crucible as a solo Guardian will be jazzed to hear about the studio’s new playlist ideas: Freelance 6v6 and Freelance 3v3.

“Freelance 6v6 and Freelance 3v3 are mixed-mode playlists that are only accessible by solo players – no Fireteams allowed,” Designer Jeremiah “Jerpie” Pieschl explains. They’ll be available “sporadically on the weekly rotators in your Director,” and are a place where “both teams will be on equal ground, though an advantage can be gained by opening a voice channel to Team Chat.”

Modes inside Freelance 6v6 include a mix of Clash, Control, and Rift, while Freelance 3v3 modes are comprised of Elimination, Salvage, and Skirmish.

Lastly, Bungie addressed some of the other things the studio is doing to further improve PvP lag. In addition to some of the work done with the new matchmaking settings, Networking Engineer Paul Lewellen says a new system will be put in place this February whose goal “is to give you a better experience in the Crucible when there are Internet problems outside of your control.”

“If your connection is good, a typical Destiny PvP match should feel like your best ones do now,” Lewellen says. “Obviously things won’t always be perfect, but we think you’ll notice a positive difference pretty quickly. Your weapons will feel a bit more reliable, your kills will feel a bit snappier, and players with poor connections should be less frustrating to fight.”

“If your connection is bad, we’ll be giving you even more reasons to improve it. Expect to lose fights a lot more often, even if you think you shot first or escaped behind cover in time. Things will get much better once you fix your connection, but at least you’ll receive fewer angry messages in the meantime.”

We all know about the guy that takes 10 headshots to kill or 20 melee strikes to put down, *if* he or she doesn’t get you first. Hopefully this month’s update will make PvP-ing a little more fun and fair for everyone.

What are your thoughts on some of the changes Bungie has planned for Destiny this month?

Doom Gets An Official Launch Date In Gory New Campaign Trailer

Sticking to their previously announced “Spring 2016” launch window, id Software and Bethesda Softworks have slapped an official launch date on their upcoming reboot of the classic old-school shooter, Doom.

Doom launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this May 13th (Friday the 13th), which is made clear at the end of the title’s latest campaign trailer that is, predictably, as gory as ever — exactly the way we like it.

You can pre-order Doom on the game’s official website, or even secure the Collector’s Edition which comes with a 12” tall Revenant statue. Pre-ordering also secures access to the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which includes:

Battleborn Developer Reveals Two New Heroes – Attikus & Galilea

As Gearbox Software’s upcoming hero shooter, Battleborn, draws closer to its early May release date, the studio has been slowly pulling back the curtain on the 25-character roster that will be available at launch.

Thanks to a pair of recently released videos from the development team, we get our first look at the 19th and 20th heroes: Attikus and Galilea. Along with the footage, we also get a detailed look at their abilities, background information, and skills, courtesy of the PlayStation Blog.

ATTIKUS

[youtube id=”gLjOEkbMTf0″]

Slave. Laborer. Greatest warrior among the Jennerit underclass — the Thralls. All his life, Attikus has been told what to do, shoved into the deepest mines of Tempest, and kept down. Thanks to an experimental biotech harness, this already-imposing brute was given the one thing the Jennerit didn’t expect: intelligence.”

“The only thing more dangerous than a huge, imposing beast with an axe to grind against his oppressors… is a smart imposing beast with an axe to grind against his oppressors.”

  • Main Attacks:
    • Barefisted Brawling: while his normal fist would just as easily knock you out, watch out for when his abilities are fully charged. You’ll be seeing stars as his enhanced hand delivers a burst of shield-draining damage.
    • Charged Hook: Hold back for a couple seconds and Attikus’ high-octane haymaker delivers a world of pain. To your face.
  • Abilities:
    • Pounce: Just because this beast is huge doesn’t mean it can’t move. Attikus can leap to a target location and knock foes back.
    • Hedronic Arc: That metal arm grafted to Attikus’ body? He uses it to shock enemies when they come in for a closer look.
    • Hedronic Eruption: Attikus’ ultimate ability hurls shockwaves of energy to clear enemies out of his path.
  • Passive:
    • Hedronic Collector: A fringe benefit of the biotech harness — his passive ability can syphon energy from killed enemies. Once enough energy gets collected, he can pay it forward, juicing up the next skill he uses and making it even more powerful.

GALILEA

[youtube id=”HWKys8ZbS-g”]

“A sacred order within the Eldrid, the Arbiters of Being were charged with undermining the Jennerit Empire’s technology, and Galilea was its most promising warrior. Entrusting her with a long undercover mission, Galilea was embedded within the Jennerit and worked her way through the recruits of the Silent Sisters.

During an attempt to sabotage their Sustainment technology, Ambra discovered and attacked Galilea, mortally wounding her. Once a close friend, Ambra attempted to use Sustainment to save Galilea’s life but it was only partially successful. Now unstable, immortal, and reeking of life-draining dark energy, Galilea is at war with herself and her new powers as she hopes to find a new purpose among the Peacekeepers.”

  • Main Attacks:
    • Wraith’s Greatsword: she may be a fallen holy warrior of the Eldrid, but Galilea is still incredibly handy and swift in close combat.
    • Sentinel’s Greatshield: when Galilea is ready to wade deep into combat and stare her enemy in the eye, nothing’s better than a shield for deflecting blows and defending allies.
  • Abilities:
    • Shield Throw: that shield Galilea wields can do a lot more than simply absorb damage — give it a toss and share the pain! And, no, she has nothing to do with a certain someone that rhymes with Shnaptain Shamerica.
    • Desecrate: always ready for a sword fight, she curses the ground beneath enemies to amplify damage against them.
    • Abyssal Form: Take personal time-out with this ability. Galilea’s ultimate ability explodes into dark energy allowing her to take a break from the action or run for cover. During that time, she takes reduced damage and regenerates a huge chunk of her health.
  •  Passive:
    • Corruption: the more that she connects blows and uses skills, Galilea’s Corruption grows. Once charged, she begins projecting a passive aura that drains the health of nearby enemies.

Check out details on the two previously revealed hero characters, Deande and Gahlt.

Battleborn is to be released on May 3 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s First DLC Launch Now Available On PS4, New Awakening Screens

Call of Duty fans are celebrating the first launch in Black Ops 3’s year-long season of content. Awakening DLC is now live, first on PlayStation 4, with four new maps and an all-new zombies story.

A ton of updates were also made to the game just prior to Awakening’s launch. If you missed the patch notes, you can catch up right here. You’ll find tweaks to weapon balancing, score streaks, game modes, and much more.

According to Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar, an Awakening DLC playlist is going live “ASAP” and will be available in the “Bonus” tab.

With all these updates to the game, it might be worth checking out today’s live stream at 4PM PST / 7PM EST where Treyarch developers hope to offer more insight into what they’ve been working on over the past few weeks.

This morning, Treyarch and Activision dropped a few new screens for the just-launched DLC, which you can have a look at below, along with official map descriptions.

Awakening DLC is included in Black Ops 3’s Season Pass or can otherwise be bought for $15 USD. Xbox One and PC users get the same content next month.

SKYJACKED

Black Ops 3

High above urban Zurich, Skyjacked is a modernized version of the popular Call of Duty®: Black Ops II multiplayer map Hijacked. Utilizing the new core movement system featured in Black Ops III, this map gives players new ways to explore the environment, while still retaining the same fast and frenetic gameplay players love.

SPLASH

Black Ops 3

Dive into battle in this abandoned water park, featuring a vibrant and colorful environment, including waterslides, a wrecked pirate ship and a lazy river. Splash encourages an open flow of combat with opportunities for underwater gameplay.

GAUNTLET

Black Ops 3

Delivering three unique environments within one action-packed map, Gauntlet showcases Treyarch’s classic three-lane map structure, transporting players into battle through a sprawling jungle, sub-zero arctic zone and rainy urban cityscape.

RISE

Black Ops 3

A versatile multiplayer map, Rise is set in the snowy outskirts of Zurich in the middle of an ongoing construction site for a massive subterranean Coalescence research campus. With multiple engagement areas throughout this larger map, each section caters to different styles of gameplay.

DER EISENDRACHE

[youtube id=”zOMds3dyjkc”]

Awakening also introduces the first chapter of Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s Zombies DLC adventure with Der Eisendrache picking up where The Giant left off. Set in a chilling medieval Austrian castle during World War II, players will embark on an epic 4-part journey with the Origin characters Richtofen, Nikolai, Takeo and Dempsey, spanning the DLC season. The ancient site on which the castle sits was the scene of unspeakable horror where massive deposits of Element 115 have recently been discovered. Players will discover a variety of exciting plot twists and surprises as they survive waves of the undead.

CONTENT UPDATE

Balancing

Operator shouts are now muted for enemy team

  • From now on, the enemy team will not be hearing your team’s automatic character shouts. This will allow for stealthier approaches while maintaining non-verbal communication within the respective teams.

Defender objective rotation (for Ranked and Custom Games)

  • In Ranked and Custom Games, Defenders can vote for the objective location they want to defend. We noticed that certain maps have objective locations that are considered easier to defend than others, and that those are frequently being chosen. We believe that it will make for a more competitive and interesting experience to force variety upon the Defenders. From now on, when on the defending side, if a team wins an objective location, they won’t be able to pick it again until they’ve won the remaining locations. If the match goes into overtime, all objective locations become available again.

Reduced bullet trail intensity, especially for suppressed weapons

  • Reduced the visibility of bullet trails for all weapons, with an additional reduction for suppressed weapons for a stealthier approach. We believe this tweak will make silenced weapons more useful, as the damage reduction trade-off will now be more worthwhile, on top off the sound reduction.

Increased the flashbang range of effect

  • We are roughly doubling the range of flashbangs, making them more effective.

Reduced noise levels of multiple Defender gadgets

  • Reduced the noise levels of Mute’s jammers. It will now be considerably lower for Defenders and we reduced the verticality of its sound (will not be heard from two floors up or down anymore).
  • Reduced the electricity noise levels on electrified gadgets.
  • Reduced the noises levels of the Kapkan trap.

Reinforced walls and Castle barricades now block bullets while being deployed

  • It used to be possible to get shot while deploying reinforced walls and Castle barricades, even if they seemed to be covering the players. From now on, there will be collision on those surfaces even during deployment and therefore the bullets will be stopped.

Thatcher now has a shotgun available in his loadout options

  • We added the English shotgun M590A1 to Thatcher’s loadout options.

Removed Bandit’s unique gadget’s (CED-1) electricity damage on the hostage

  • Removed electricity damage on the hostage. This will avoid some edge cases where it wasn’t clear who was responsible for the hostage’s death.

Player Comfort

Added map and mode name display during loading and planning phase screens

Reduced screen dust effect

  • When surfaces break or explosions occur, nearby players get a dust effect on the border of their screen. We reduced it to be less intense and occluding.

Altered matchmaking timer display

  • Timer now counts up to estimated time.

Fixed weapon damage numbers in menus

  • We have changed the damage numbers in the menus according to the light armor values.

Playlist Changes

Individual spawn location selection for Attackers (Ranked, Custom Games setting)

  • In Ranked (and as a Custom Game setting), each Attacker can now select their own spawning location instead of having to vote as a group. This will give more tactical flexibility on approaching the building and will also greatly reduce the amount of instances in which Attackers get picked off as a group by the Defenders right as the Action phase begins (team spawn killing).

Ranked population repartition tweak

  • Our data tracking shows that the upper ranks (Gold, Platinum, Diamond) are less populated than expected. Therefore, we have reworked how our players are distributed through ranks. This means that many players will see their ranks change instantly after the February 2nd update.

Here’s how it was before this update:

  • 1.17% Copper (1-4)
  • 34.6% Bronze (1-4)
  • 58.8% Silver (1-4)
  • 5.27% Gold (1-4)
  • 0.1% Platinum (1-3)
  • Less than 0.001% Diamond
  • *Note: Players in Platinum were often matched against Silver players, almost always against Golds and rarely against other Platinums, which gives the impression that matchmaking is unbalanced.

Here’s the repartition we are aiming for with this update:

  • 15% Copper (1-4)
  • 25% Bronze (1-4)
  • 35% Silver (1-4)
  • 20% Gold (1-4)
  • 5% Platinum (1-3)
  • 0.2% Diamond
  • We will be closely monitoring how the rank repartition evolves over time and will be doing additional tweaks if needed. To learn more about the Ranked System, read this forum post.

Ranked fluctuation parameters tweak

  • From now on, players ranked Silver 3 and below will have a higher fluctuation rate compared to the ranks above that threshold. For example, Bronze 3 could contain players that have skill ratings between 15 and 16.5 while Gold 3 would have a larger spectrum, between 32.5 and 35. The intention behind this is that players from the lower ranks can climb out of them faster. This will make it more fun for newer or less experienced players, while the constant, highly skilled players will be able to maintain their rank.

Other Improvements

Web feature: Tactical Board improvements

  • Auto-save.
    • The Tactical Board will now automatically save tactics in progress every 30 seconds. This will prevent you from losing your work if any disconnection or bug occurs while working on a tactic. It will also allow you to leave the Tactical Board without having to hit the Save button. Just make sure you noticed the “Autosaved” text popping on the top of the Tactical Board, to the right of the tactic name.
  • Maintenance alerts.
    • The Tactical Board will alert you of upcoming maintenances 15 minutes prior to downtime. Fixing the Tactical Board bugs requires us to switch off the servers for some minutes. When a maintenance is upcoming, you’ll see a warning on the bottom of the board. As we also have the autosaves ongoing, there will be less risks to lose your work, which will occur only if you edit the tactic 30 seconds or less before the maintenance starts.
  • Texts are now easier to select and edit.
  • Bug fixes.
    • Fixed an issue preventing users to validate the removal of the tactician.
    • Fixing an issue making undo/redo actions sometimes unresponsive until a change of tool was made.
    • Inviting someone in the tactic will now correctly update the Attendees panel (top right).
    • Fixing an issue preventing to dismiss a share notification from their dashboard when clicking “See it later”.

There are also a number of additional bug fixes that you can check out on the official Black Ice Update page right here.

The Division Closed Beta Gets 24-Hour Extension As Ubisoft Invites More Players

You probably saw it coming. It seems that beta extensions for most high-profile games happen more often then not these days. Not that we’re complaining, of course!

Ubisoft and Massive are giving participants of The Division’s closed beta an extra day in New York City — plenty of time to spend those “hard-earned” Dark Zone funds on sweet, high-level gear. Developers wrote this message on the Ubisoft Forums earlier today:

Over the last few days, we’ve seen an incredible amount of excitement for the game, leading to many of you registering on the waitlist for a chance to join our Closed Beta. We’ve been working very hard to let as many players as possible join, while still maintaining a smooth experience for everyone.

Earlier today, we announced that we were now inviting as many players as possible from the waitlist, in addition to those who had guaranteed pre-order access. We’ve started sending invites, with priority given to those who signed up first.

In order to allow everyone who has access to fully enjoy the Beta, we’re happy to announce we’re extending the duration by 24h for all players. As a result servers will remain open until Tuesday, February 2nd, 12pm CET | 6 am EST | 3 am PST.

Thank you all for your amazing support!

So far, what’s your favorite thing about the closed beta? What sort of improvements do you want to see from Ubisoft and Massive before The Division launches on March 8?

The studio announced today via press release that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Pro League will begin this March and feature a prize pool of $100,000, supporting tournaments in both North America and Europe on Xbox One and PC. Season One will premier at the Intel Extreme Masters in Katowice, Poland on March 4 with eight matches in the European PC competition. More tournaments, including North American and Xbox One gameplay, will take place in the following weeks.

Season Finals will feature the top placing European and North American teams in a $50,000 tournament on both Xbox One and PC.

Details on the program and qualifiers are up at Rainbow6.com/ProLeague and teams can already start practicing in weekly cups at Play.ESLGaming.com/RainbowSix.

With teams of five facing off in elimination-style, objective-based game modes, Rainbow Six Siege could make for a pretty successful eSport. We’d love to see it featured in properly sponsored tournaments and events and can’t wait to see what Ubisoft Montreal will make of the just-announced Pro League.

Bungie Dishes Out New Details On Destiny’s Limited-Time “Crimson Doubles” PvP Playlist

This Valentine’s week, Bungie is inviting you and your date to test your love in the Crucible in a new 2v2 elimination playlist called Crimson Doubles.

The new activity will go live during Destiny’s Crimson Days event, which takes place between February 9 to February 16, as we learned last week. In it, two fireteams of two will face off in a first-to-five battle where interesting new mechanics come into play once one player in a fireteam has died.

According to Senior Designer Leif Johansen in Bungie’s latest Weekly Update, the last man or woman standing in a fireteam will receive the Broken Heart buff. “When you find yourself alone in the fight, you gain maximum ratings for Armor, Agility, Recovery, and Weapon Handling speed,” he explained. “Hearing Bungie devs swear vengeance for their beloved Crimson partners during playtests sealed the deal for me.”

Throughout, players will be able to complete Crimson Bonds quests from Lord Shaxx and earn new Shaders and Ghost Shells that drop up to 320 Light. Crimson Candy can also be consumed for a 30-minute weapon XP buff that will apply both party members. Lastly, kills from both Guardians will count towards the new Crimson Days Bounties. You’ll find the official Crimson Days page at Bungie.net.

In the latest update, Bungie Design Lead Lars Bakken also offered a quick follow up to the PvP connection testing that’s been taking place in this week’s Iron Banner playlist. Though the ultimate goal is to reduce lag by getting the new matchmaking settings into all playlists, it may take some time.

“The plan is to keep looking at data, listen to the community, keep you updated, and see how much more we can do to make the experience better,” Bakken wrote. “Of course, the end goal has always been to push this out to our other playlists so they can share in the love. We’ll do that when we feel like we have a good solution we’re happy with. More to come on that once we have a solid plan.”

Did you take part in any of the test phases this week? Notice any differences? Let us know in the comments!

Respawn’s Next Titanfall Game ‘Looking Fantastic,’ Will Launch By End Of March 2017

Along with BioWare’s Mass Effect: Andromeda, a “new Titanfall experience” from Respawn is on the way and is expected to launch “later in the fiscal year,” ending March 31, 2017. This comes from EA’s most recent earnings call, which dropped news on some of the company’s more exciting games in 2016 and beyond.

According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, the new Titanfall is already “looking fantastic” too.

EA assigned an April 2016 to March 2017 release window for Respawn’s next shooter during the company’s last earnings call, but was a little more specific about DICE’s next Battlefield game, giving it a Holiday 2016 launch. This was once again echoed in today’s earnings call.

Seeing that the next Battlefield arrives this holiday, it’s pretty safe to say “Titanfall 2” is looking at a January 2017 to March 2017 launch window.

Yesterday, DICE and EA also laid out details for Star Wars Battlefront’s post-launch outlook, announcing four expansion packs featuring locations like Jabba the Hutt’s Palace, the Cloud City of Bespin, and the Death Star.

The Division To Get Three Expansions & Free Updates, Season Pass Details Announced

On the heels of The Division’s closed beta launch on Xbox One, Ubisoft and developer Massive surprised fans this morning with an announcement detailing the studio’s plans for the game’s post-launch content and support.

In addition to free updates, The Division will grow with three expansions throughout the year, all of which will be covered in the game’s Season Pass.

As for free stuff, Ubisoft says the “free updates to be released for all players will add new game modes such as challenging group-oriented operations to test players’ abilities in co-op mode and win unique rewards.” Meanwhile each paid expansion “builds on The Division, continuing your agent’s journey and progress with new content, gear and gameplay as you fight to take back New York.”

The studio then went on to provide a few more specifics on what’s coming:

Expansion I: Underground – This first major expansion opens up a new area to players as they explore the uncharted underworld of New York City with up to 3 friends for intense co-op action.

Expansion II: Survival – In this expansion, players will have to survive as long as possible in a very hostile environment that will challenge even the most talented agents.

Expansion III: Last Stand – Stay tuned for more information.

As for the Season Pass, which is part of the Gold or Sleeper Agent Editions of the game, it will include:

  • The Division Expansion I: Underground
  • The Division Expansion II: Survival
  • The Division Expansion III: Last Stand
  • Exclusive Sawed-off Shotgun, a unique sidearm customized for short-range destruction.
  • Full set of exclusive outfits and weapon skins
  • Special monthly benefits including exclusive content drops and special events.

The Season Pass will also be sold separately when the game launches on March 8.

Had a chance to hop on the closed beta yet? What are your initial thoughts? Think the game worthy of a DLC announcement so soon?

Ubisoft Offers Tips & Tricks On How To Play The Division Closed Beta

Role-playing games are, by nature, pretty big, with lots of stuff to do, lots of things to learn, and lots of places to explore. The Division, a third-person-shooter RPG with elements taken from other MMO games, is no different.

While the upcoming closed beta will surely provide the developers at Ubisoft Massive with the data they need to improve the game for launch, it also serves as an opportunity for those new to the game to learn the ropes of being an agent in The Division. By the looks of it, there are quite a few different systems and mechanics in place, including base-building, character progression, weapon customization, co-op missions, adversarial environments, etc. But before you let it get to your head, we suggest taking a look at the latest walkthrough trailer that Ubisoft recently strung together, showing you the first few steps you’ll take as you’re getting started in the beta. You can watch it above.

The Division closed beta starts Thursday morning for Xbox One users and Friday morning for PlayStation 4 and PC users. You can find exact start times here.

Homefront: The Revolution Gets Multiplayer Content At Launch – Resistance Mode Announced

With the original Homefront’s heavy emphasis on competitive multiplayer gameplay, fans of the IP were surprised to learn its follow-up, Homefront: The Revolution, would ship without a player-versus-player mode when it was announced two summers ago.

While developer Deep Silver still hasn’t mentioned any plans to develop a multiplayer mode dedicated to adversarial combat, we learned today that Homefront: The Revolution will get at least some online multiplayer in the form of a new co-op mode called Resistance Mode.

According to the studio, Resistance Mode will launch with the game and will support up to four players online. Post-launch content drops will also introduce brand new co-op missions for free to all players. In it, you’ll be able to:

  • “Form a Resistance Cell with your friends, and wage guerrilla warfare against the military might of the KPA in thrilling narrative-driven scenarios.”
  • “Unlock new skills, weapon blueprints, rare equipment and combat gear to upgrade and customise your roster of Freedom Fighters, as you and your friends go from rookie civilians to battle hardened soldiers.”
  • “Enjoy major, regular content updates as part of an extensive post-launch support program– all future co-operative Missions will be FREE for all players.”

A new trailer called “Freedom Fighters” was also published earlier today, showing off the new mode in action. You can watch it above.

Xbox One gamers can sign up for the exclusive closed beta, launching on February 11, at Homefront-Game.com.

Homefront: The Revolution hits on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 17.
