PlayStation Player Celebration Returns for Days of Play 2021

The PlayStation community is gearing up for some interactive activities and moments, as the PlayStation Player Celebration returns for the Days of Play 2021 event — and day one activities will commence starting May 18!

Here’s the announcement trailer from the folks at the PlayStation Blog.

Registration has already started for the PS Player Celebration, and will run until May 31! Here’s an overview of the steps to follow and what you will get by signing up and participating!

1. Sign Up

Register with your PSN Sign-In ID here.  Once you sign up, you’re automatically entered into all future Stages of the program.

The event is open to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users in the following locations: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, and the United States.

2. Start playing on May 18

There are three Stages throughout the event, with the first Stage kicking off on May 18. Each Stage will have the following Community Goals:

Games Goal

●       Play PS4/PS5 games — the Community must play a target number of games each week. Every PS4/PS5 game that each entrant plays for at least an hour (across as many sessions as you’d like during the week) will count towards the Games Goal. You’ll earn double points towards the goal if you play games with users on your Friends List (who have also signed up to participate).

Trophies Goal

●       Earn Trophies — the Community must earn a target number of Trophies each week. Each entrant can have a maximum of six PS4/PS5 Trophies count towards the Trophies Goal.

Bonus Goal

●       If the first set of goals are reached before the end of each Stage, there will be a new set of Bonus Goals the Community can work towards.

3. Earn exclusive PSN Avatars and PS4 Themes

Everyone who signs up before a Stage begins can earn exclusive PSN avatars as well as PS4 dynamic themes (with custom music and icons) when the Community achieves the Games and Trophies Goals for that Stage.

If the Community also achieves the Stage’s Bonus goals, players who signed up prior to the start of that Stage will receive additional PSN avatars.

Finally, if the Community Goals for all Stages are met (excluding the Bonus goals), players who signed up and participated in all three Stages will receive a cumulative prize featuring an exclusive PSN avatar and PS4 theme set!

The rewards will be delivered directly to your PS4 or PS5 via Notifications approximately 1-2 days after each Stage ends. Please note that the PS4 themes will only be downloadable on PS4, and not PS5.

In recent Days of Play 2021 news, free in-game content and more stuff have been released for the initiative — which you can read about here.

Battlefield 5 Gets Surprise Mass Effect N7 Patch to Celebrate Launch of Legendary Edition

While DICE has stopped adding new maps, weapons and other stuff in Battlefield 5, there’s a surprise coming in today for the game’s players, and that’s a new Mass Effect-themed patch! This, of course, is to mark the launch of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which launched last week.

Players will be able to get the patch just by logging in (thanks, DANNYonPC!), and yep, the Battlefield 5 Mass Effect N7 patch looks like the featured image above.

For those curious regarding “N7” and what it means in the Mass Effect universe, here’s what the Mass Effect Wiki had to say:

N7 is a vocational code in the Systems Alliance military. The “N” designates special forces and the “7” refers to the highest level of proficiency. It applies to Alliance personnel who have graduated from the Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) program.

The Battlefield franchise, just like the Mass Effect license, is, of course, owned by EA that publishes both games. Don’t you just love when co-marketing and synergy just happens like this (don’t answer that).

In other Battlefield news, this year’s still-untitled Battlefield game will be revealed next month, and will feature “game-changing destruction” according to EA.

Chivalry 2 Open Beta Won’t Require PS Plus, But Xbox Will Require Gold Membership Confirmed

Earlier today, Trip Banner Studios and publisher Tripwire announced that the Chivalry 2 open beta starts on May 27. For those playing on PlayStation platforms (PS4, PS5), you’ll be able to take part in it even if you’re not a PlayStation Plus (PS+) member, though those on Xbox can’t.

This has been confirmed in the Chivalry 2 open beta press release sent out which includes the following disclaimer:

NOTE: PlayStation users will be able to access the Open Beta for free, without a PlayStation Plus subscription required. Xbox users will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play the Open Beta.

I’ll admit, this surprised us a bit given Microsoft did announce that free-to-play games won’t require an active Xbox Live Gold membership to play. That said, Chivalry 2 isn’t a F2P game, and it looks like betas for non-F2P games will still require an active subscription on Xbox platforms.

Chivalry 2 is out this June 8 on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Kone Pro & Kone Pro Air Review – Owl Accuracy

ROCCAT is back with yet another exciting addition to their line PC peripherals, though this time they’re looking at breathing in new life into a long successful line of gaming mouse, the Kone. Yep, that’s right, after 13 long years of being one of the top esport-supported products, ROCCAT is ready to introduce the world to an all new, fresh series of Kone gaming mouse. Learning everything they have in the last decade, and combining it with all the latest in technology, meet the new and improved, Kone Pro.

Design

In our review of the ROCCAT Burst Pro mouse we noted that we loved the simple, beautiful design that the team went with for their casing, and how comfortable it was using compared to other mouse we’ve tested. It easily became my favorite mouse, and has been used since. Well, like all good things there is always something better to come around, and that something is the Kone Pro.

Following in its steps, the Kone Pro keeps things simple in the design department, but ups the overall comfortability. With a bulkier design, and bigger buttons, you’d expect the Kone Pro to feel a bit worse compared to the Burst, but in actuality it isn’t.

For one, the Pro Air has better resting support. With an elevated height, your palm can rest more comfortably, no matter the position. The left and right side rest specifically have curved lips, allowing fingers to rest within the mouse itself. Not only does this provide less strain on your hand, but it also gives you a more grippier feeling. Grippier grip, means better handling, which means you have far better control with your speed and accuracy.

Talking a bit more about the side lips, the Pro Air, like many other gaming mice, offers two additional buttons. What I really liked a lot about the left side of the mouse (where the buttons are) is that the lip doesn’t seem to get in the way of these buttons. I’ve had issues in the past where either the buttons are too close to the resting position, or there’s no lip at all and it has caused accidental pushes. Not with the Pro Air as there is an appropriate amount of space between your thumb and the buttons. It feels quite nice, if I must say.

Then there’s the scroll wheel, which is also pretty large but appropriate in size of the mouse. As stated by the ROCCAT team, the scroll wheel in the Pro Air is made of solid aluminum (meaning lighter weight) that is said to adapt to finger temperature and offer even more comfortability. I can’t really attest to that bit about finger temperature, but it certainly has a very comfortable, and satisfying scroll and click. What’s more, the tactile click it makes while scrolling is remarkably silent. Whether you like that or not is all user preference, as all things of course, but I was pretty happy with it myself.

Of course it wouldn’t be a ROCCAT product if it didn’t have any RBG lighting. I’ve said it a few times in my other hardware reviews that I’ve never been a big fan RBG lighting, because it all too distracting, especially when playing in the dark. I think ROCCAT really understood this when it came to designing their mouse shell, which all seem to be heading towards the translucent honeycomb style. On top of being durable with extremely light weight material, the casing on these mice also limit the amount of light, at least to the point where you aren’t going to be blinded if you look down.

I really love that, because I hate light reflections bouncing from my PC monitor. I had this issue with the DualShock 4 light bar, which is why I eventually disabled the light via hardware modification. Of course with the Swarm software that ROCCAT is pushing for, all those lighting effects can be customized, and even disabled.

One big difference between the Kone Pro and the Burst Pro is where the RGB lighting is located. The Kone Pro Air moves the RGB lighting from the bottom of the palm, and positions them right under the left and right clicker. I really love this change, as it allows users to give the mouse a hint of their own personality while not covering it completely with your hand.

There’s also no RGB lighting coming from the scroll wheel, though that makes a lot of sense once you realize how elevated the wheel is and that you can see right through it, giving the illusion that there is light coming out of it. It’s a clever design choice that I feel many will overlook.

The Kone Pro also has heat-treated pure PTFE gliders on the underside, which offers a total free and smooth range of motion on almost any kind of mouse suited surface. What’s interesting though is that the optical sensor also has a ring created with the same material. I’ve never seen that in a mouse, and taking a closer look at it also revealed that this provides a bit of a lift, allowing the sensor to be better protected from surface dust and such. Again, another clever design decision.

As for the weight, the Kone Pro and Kone Pro Air sit at 66 grams and 75 grams respectively. For those not in the know with PC gaming mouse, these are pretty impressive numbers as they hit just around what many consider as lightweight, and if anything, more so in the ultralight weight division. The Pro Air is a bit on the heavier side, but that’s more than made up in the fact that there is no cable to string around as you move. It’s still noticeably heavier, but it’s not a major drawback by any degree.

Overall, I’m impressed with the design of the Kone Pro. It feels like a great culmination of everything that ROCCAT has been achieving right, with the latest in technology wrapped inside of it.

Performance

Both the Kone Pro and Kone Pro Air are equipped with the Owl-Eye 19K optical sensor, which as the name suggests, offers an astonishing 19,000 DPi (dots per inch). This in turns means that you are going to be getting better movement detection, and for a mouse that earned it’s name in the esport industry, this is crucially important.

Seeing that the Owl-Eye sensor is based on the the stellar PAW3370, it really should come to no surprise that when it comes to movement, precision, and accuracy, the Kone Pro delivers.

As someone who enjoys the 1:1 movement of a mouse being shown on screen, I can safely say that the Owl-Eye 19K doesn’t disappoint. My playtesting yielded no noticeable input lag, even for the wireless Kone Pro Air version. Testing out some popular shooters like Black Ops Cold War, Apex, Legends, and Fortnite, it was easy to tell how much of a difference the Kone Pro was compared to the other gaming mouse.

Then of course there’s the latest from ROCCAT, the Titan Optical Switch. I’ve covered how much of a beast of technology it is in our ROCCAT Vulkan Pro Keyboard, though to be frank testing this functionality out in a mouse is a whole lot harder. As I mentioned in the Burst Pro mouse review, it feels more responsive, but the differences are pretty negligible. In the grand scheme of things, however, is that if what ROCCAT say is true, and we have no reason to really doubt them considering their quality, then this mouse should last a whole lot longer than your traditional, mechanical one. Three months in with my Burst Pro and I still have yet to see any kind of wearing. I fully expect the Kone Pro to last me for many years to come.

All this, combined with the above mentioned of the design and comfortability improvements, has made the Kone Pro one serious mice killer. Fitting since the word “cat” is in it’s brand name.

Sadly there is no dedicated DPi button like you would find on many other gaming mouse. I was a bit bummed by this at first, but to add a silver lining, the lack of one did allow me to better customize my experience with the Swarm app. I would have still preferred a dedicated button, but I am glad I can still set the DPi level by some form, even if it’s by software. And since this mouse is geared towards the competitive side of things, I can understand lack of one as I have on countless occasion, accidentally hit the button on my Burst Pro. It’s not fun being in the middle of a firefight with your aim sensitivity all of a sudden jacked to max or slowed to a crawl. So I can understand if it lacks it, but that boils down to preferences.

Kone Pro Air – Worth the Extra Bucks?

Everything I’ve said up until this point applies to both versions of the Kone Pro mouse. They’re both remarkably comfortable, with a design that suits any playstyle, and when it comes to their performances, both are superbly excellent. So the real question here is, is the wireless option worth the added cost?

Running off either off Bluetooth connectivity, or through the 2.4ghz dongle, the Kone Pro Air offers, on a full charge, around 100 hours of uninterrupted gameplay. That is a lot more than you get out of most batteries. On top of that, it’ll also fast charges five hours worth of gameplay in a matter of 10 minutes! We’ve been testing the Kone Pro Air for weeks and have yet to run out of juice, though it does help that there is an auto-off function to help conserve battery when not in use.

Even more great, if for whatever reason you don’t want to use the wireless functionality, using the USB 2.0 to USB-C cable that comes with it, you can also use the Kone Pro Air as a wired mouse, so you get the best of both worlds.

Now whether or not wireless functionality is something you want is entirely up to you. Personally, because the Kone Pro Air offers the same quality build, performance, and comfortability as the standard version, it’s really a no brainer to invest in the wireless version. The only downside I suppose is that it’s $50 more, bringing it past that $100 ($129.99) price point for those wanting to stay within budget.

Verdict

Despite having less buttons than a lot of other gaming mouse, the Kone Pro and Kone Pro Air both feel like a complete package with year’s of ingenuity behind them. The design feels great in the palm of our hands, and it’s clear this mouse was built to offer the best kind of comfortability, with the best kind of performance that you can get out of a gaming mouse. I never got the chance to experience past iterations of the Kone mouse, but from my testing, I feel that fans of the iconic brand will come to love everything the newest has to offer.

ROCCAT has once again proven why they’re a household name with the Kone Pro, taking no shortcuts, no sacrifices at providing it’s PC community with the best can, and more.

Pros:

  • Beautiful, ergonomic design. If you want efficiency with all the comfortability, then look no further than the Kone Pro.
  • Lightweight, with well placed heat-treated pure PTFE gliders. Makes everything feel smooth
  • Owl-Eye Sensor is super accurate, offering the kind of precision and speeds you would want.
  • Kone Air wireless battery life and charge rate.

Cons:

  • No dedicated DPi button. Bit bummed coming off from the Burst Pro, but glad there’s a software-side solution.

Premium In-Game Currencies Keep Our Favorite Games Alive

Premium in-game currencies are a nightmare. While most can be earned by playing the game, some have to be purchased. Whether you get them as a bonus with the battle pass, or you have to buy packs of them outright in order to get that cosmetic pack you’re desperate for. There are always some that feel just a little bit dirty. Like they’re an extra that should have been included in the game. Separated by the developer and then charged for at a later date once you’ve been sucked in. However, these currencies aren’t inherently bad. In fact, most of the time, they’re the opposite of what we perceive them to be. Without many of them, the games we know and love would be gone.

Developers Need Money

Let’s establish what premium currency is first. In Destiny 2, this is Silver, In World of Warcraft, it’s Gold, and in Rainbow Six Siege, it’s R6 Credits. These are all currencies that players get a handful of from playing the game, but they’re then unobtainable unless you buy them or spend more money. In Destiny 2, you won’t get any Silver unless the developer chooses to give it to you. At least in Siege, you’ll be given some R6 Credits for buying the battle pass for the current season. They seem toxic, particularly because they separate you from the cosmetics you want to use in these games. Think about what would happen if they were gone, though.

Without these premium currencies, developers wouldn’t be able to afford to keep these games running on the budget that they do. They’d have to ask all players for a monthly fee to keep the servers online, which is exactly what all MMOs used to do. That archaic practice is almost entirely gone, though some games do still use it, like Final Fantasy 14. The bottom line here is that if you want to keep your games free-to-play, though, you’re going to have to live with the fact that most of the amazing cosmetics will be locked behind a premium currency paywall.

Injustice

My favorite free-to-play game of all time is Injustice: Gods Among Us for mobile devices. It’s a game that looks almost as good as the console version, but it runs much smoother and faster because it’s got far less going on. You tap the screen to fight, swap characters in teams, win, and repeat. You can do this over and over again, and the satisfying short and long-term goals keep you playing for hours.

I once spent an evening with friends playing the online mode just so I could win a premium reward without paying for it. At some point, though, you have to face the fact that you’re not getting the best rewards without buying them. Even here, players were paying their way to play faster and better, and that’s not something that you can compete with as a free player. It didn’t bother me, but it showed me why the premium currency exists in these games.

There will always be players who are willing to do things like buy WoW TBC Gold or Silver in Destiny 2. All you have to do is type in the game of a game on Fiverr, and you’ll see that people are willing to pay for others to play on their accounts. If you’ve got the money and you want the progression, you’ll pay for it. For most of these people, it’s a status symbol. They want to have everything in the game. While they don’t have the time to get that, they do have the money.

Paying for Games Supports Them

By spending additional cash on the games you love, you’re supporting the developer and keeping that game alive. There’s no shame in it, and it’s an essential feature in almost every free-to-play game if you want it to survive in the long term. The next time you think that a cosmetic should be free, think about what that might mean for the community and the game’s future in a few years.

Tencent to Launch Mobile Space Exploration Game “Our Planet” That Looks Very Similiar to No Man’s Sky

China-based company Tencent is looking to expand its mobile games portfolio, and has announced that it plans to launch a new mobile game titled “Our Planet,” which is a sci-fi exploration game built on the Unreal Engine 4 that eerily looks quite similar to Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky.

In development by Wumai Technology, you can check out gameplay footage of Our Planet down below and judge for yourself:

There’s no release date set for it so far, and no word on whether it’ll come on other platforms too. If it does come to PC, PlayStation or Xbox, I can see Hello Games taking a harder look into it. This isn’t the first time Tencent is developing a product that borrows heavily into another item, as the company’s patent for a gaming console wil remind you of a Nintendo Switch very much.

Does this look similar to No Man’s Sky to your or is it just me? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Fan Makes Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart Game in Dreams

With Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart hitting the PS5 this coming June, it seems one PlayStation fan has took it upon themselves to craft their own version of the game using Media Molecule’s Dreams!

Instead of Ratchet, it stars the new Lombax being introduced in Rift Apart named Rivet, and you must fight your way to bring back Clank to Ratchet! Check out close to 20 minutes of gameplay footage below to see how it plays.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jROKnil8lpI

Obviously, it’ll look a lot different compared to the upcoming game since, y’know, it’s being made by one person on the PS4, rather than by an entire company with millions in budget. But still, this is quite impressive.

Those interested, you can download the game right here (Dreams required, of course). Reviews from the Dreams community have been solid so far, so you might want to give it a try.

As for the actual Rift Apart game, you can watch 15 minutes of solid gameplay right here before the game rips open dimensions and hits the PS5 on June 11.

Ubisoft also announced plans to take The Division franchise to mobile, bringing the universe to an even wider audience. More details on this project will come at a later date.

Yep. It looks like a The Divison game, alright!

Hades was first released on PC last year after initially being available as an Early Access title.

Not familiar with Hades? Here’s an overview straight from the game’s Steam page:

The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.

BUILT FOR REPLAYABILITY

New surprises await each time you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld, whose guardian bosses will remember you. Use the powerful Mirror of Night to grow permanently stronger, and give yourself a leg up the next time you run away from home.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE

Permanent upgrades mean you don’t have to be a god yourself to experience the exciting combat and gripping story. Though, if you happen to be one, crank up the challenge and get ready for some white-knuckle action that will put your well-practiced skills to the test.

SIGNATURE SUPERGIANT STYLE

The rich, atmospheric presentation and unique melding of gameplay and narrative that’s been core to Supergiant’s games is here in full force: spectacular hand-painted environments and a blood-pumping original score bring the Underworld to life.

Once an official announcement has been made, we’ll let our readers know. It shouldn’t be long now.

PlayStation Studios Steam Page Goes Live, Lists 41 Games & DLCs

With Sony releasing more and more first-party games on PC, Sony has today launched the PlayStation Studios Steam page! There are about 41 games and DLCs, with some hidden.

The PlayStation Studios Steam page has the following description on its “About” portion:

“PlayStation Studios is home to the development of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s own outstanding and immersive games, including some of the most popular and critically acclaimed titles in entertainment history.”

The featured game on the store is Sony Bend’s Days Gone, which will be out on May 18, while games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Helldivers, Predator: Hunting Grounds and more are showcased, too.

There are also a number of DLC, which is why the number shows as “41 games,” but the reality of it is that this is a combination of both DLC and games available. What’s interesting about this is that only 24 pieces a games and DLC are actually viewable, and while Days Gone may have some extra DLC of some sort to stack that number up, we doubt it’s an extra 17 pieces of content.

Perhaps this is a hint that there are more games to come, or possibly just a listing error? Who knows, but we are pretty confident that Sony plans on releasing more PlayStation exclusives over on PC in the near future.

Why are Card Games Intrinsically Linked With Premium Currency?

If you’ve ever played a digital card game like Gwent or Hearthstone, it can’t have escaped you that there’s a definite focus on the game’s premium currency. To some degree, it feels as though these games have been built around purchasing this currency. However, there’s usually always a way to progress that doesn’t require you to spend a penny. These games never swing too hard in one direction, but they feel like they could so easily. In this article, we’re going to explore exactly why these games are so intrinsically linked with the premium currency that keeps them alive.

First, let’s look at what this premium currency usually does. Specifically, in digital card games, premium currency is used to buy packs or resources that are used to build new cards. This ties into the progression systems for games like Hearthstone because new and better cards are required to get better at the game. You have a chance to pick up better cards for free, but you have to put a lot of time into the game. Buying packs and making new cards with the resources you gain from dismantling duplicates gets you on the road to being a top-level player faster.

In Gwent, you’re buying resources to craft new cards. These cards will help you battle against the game’s enemies and other players much better. Here, you’re not so much buying new cards as you are the chance to make them. It’s a different way of getting better at the game that removes the element of chance. Some prefer it, while others enjoy what Hearthstone’s systems offer.

Both of these games allow you to earn cards for free, though. By playing them for long hours, you can pick up the resources required to buy more cards and craft them. In this way, it doesn’t feel like either game focuses on premium currency at all. That’s where they can differ from a lot of other online games with such a currency. However, these games are always built around this premium currency because it’s what keeps them alive.

Take a look at World of Warcraft. You can buy the game’s premium currency, and there are even businesses like WoW Classic TBC Gold that are based around it. The thing is, you’re not forced into buying this currency to enjoy the game and get better. You can do that all by yourself. In digital card games, though, there’s a focus on purchasing this currency because you’re given the idea that it’ll somehow make you better. It’s an interesting concept, but it’s also not entirely true.

You’re only as good in a digital card game as your skill. You can have all the cards in the world, but you won’t beat the game or any other players if you don’t know how to use them. This is where digital card games are so different from other games with premium currency. You can’t buy your way victory. You have to make your way there by learning the game and being better at it.

Marvel’s Avengers Spider-Man Release Still Planned This Year by Crystal Dynamics

Despite the roadmap not mentioning a release, it would appear that Spider-Man is still schedule to make his debut in Crystal Dynamics Marvel’s Avengers sometime this year.

Since the reveal of the Marvel’s Avengers roadmap, many had speculated that the web-swinger was going to miss his release this year in Marvel’s Avengers. With the team focused on delivering fresh new content throughout the year, with it leading up to a Black Panther expansion, it was understandable that many had assumed that, especially after Crystal Dynamics head of studio Scott Amos recent comments around the character.

Well, looks like we have finally been given an answer as Crystal Dynamics confirmed today during their latest developer stream. Taking to the Twitch chat, Crystal Dynamic was asked by users about Spider-Man’s release window. While no specific date was given, the PR rep simply replied with “2021.”

There you have it, Spider-Man is still targeting a 2021 release, although this does go without saying that that could very well change in the future. It is however, still a planned exclusive for PlayStation.

Marvel’s Avengers is now available for purchase, including on the latest next-gen consoles. For those wondering, the game is set to receive some brand-new DLC next month revolving around Black Widow’s Red Room event. Details on the Red Room event can be found below.

Agent James “Jimmy” Woo has reported a number of anomalies within the HARM Room, each linked to an unknown computer virus. His diagnostic tests have indicated that the hack originated from the same IP address as the Rooskaya Protocols. Along with the virus, encrypted messages have been sent, all addressed to Black Widow from “Rooskaya” herself – Yelena Belova.

Multiple hacked HARM Rooms will be available during this event along with new mission chains. These hacked HARM Rooms are single player only as they require agility and a keen sense of one’s surroundings that may be interrupted by having a team. Each of these will also scale from Power Level 1 to 120.

There are five different hacked HARM Rooms that will test your traversal and evasion abilities so you can truly feel like a master spy. Yelena Belova is playing for keeps and has placed multiple hazards in these rooms like Techno Lava, which instantly kills Heroes – or enemies – upon touch, and Red Lightning, a more potent form of AIM’s blue lightning. Various enemies will also be trying to take you down. We won’t spoil what the layout is in each of these five hacked HARM Rooms. It’ll spoil Yelena’s fun. We’ll be providing tips and tricks from our team on how to complete the Red Room Takeover Event in next week’s Weekly Blog.

Participating in this event and completing mission chains will reward you with an exclusive animated nameplate, a significant amount of XP, and more. XP is important because of the new Champion System.

Champion System

Currently, when Heroes reach the level cap of 50, XP becomes obsolete. With the new Champion System, Heroes who are level 50 can improve their combat abilities even further. Once a Hero reaches level 50, earned XP from that point on is changed to Champion XP, which is specific to each Hero. Earning enough Champion XP will increase your Champion Level, which is marked on your nameplate. Whenever a Hero levels up their Champion Level, they’ll earn a Champion Skill Point, which is used to unlock a multitude of Champion Skills. Champion Skills are on their own separate interface and take the form of boosts to your damage, Perk chance activation, Heroic charge rate, etc. These are permanent increases, so every Champion Skill matters!

Note: You will not be able to re-spec your Champion Skills yet, so please choose how you want to power up your Hero wisely for the time being.

As a complement to the Champion System, we’re also introducing Hero’s Catalysts, which increase the amount of XP you’ll earn. These will occasionally be available for free to retrieve from the Marketplace, and we’re looking at other ways for you to earn them, as well. Hero’s Catalysts are a great way to catch up to friends or to level up any Heroes that haven’t reached level 50 yet.

Player’s will be able to play the Red Room Event starting May 20.

Are you guys still excited for the release of  Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers? Let us know!

Destiny 2 Iron Banner May 2021 Schedule Announced, Here’s a Look at New Weapons

With Destiny 2’s Season of the Splicer starting this week, guardians will have more stuff to do next week, as Bungie has announced that Lord Saladin is coming back! The Destiny 2 Iron Banner May 2021 schedule has been announced, and there’s even a little peek at the new weapons coming in as rewards.

Destiny 2 Iron Banner May 2021 Schedule:

IRON BANNER
START: MAY 18 AT 10 AM PDT/1 PM EDT HKT
END: MAY 25 AT 10 AM PDT/1 PM EDT/1 AM HKT

Convert to your timezone here.

Some of the changes guardians will see is that the re-enabled Heavy weapon step is now easier to complete, as it only requires three Machine Gun kills to finish!

Here’s a look at what’s coming:

We showed off two new weapons as well as two Year-1 weapons that are getting random rolls for the first time in a previous TWAB. Here is another look in case you missed it!

Bungie also talked a bit about Armor Synthesis:

ARMOR SYNTHESIS

With players now able to turn their armor into universal ornaments, we’d like to clarify how and why some armor doesn’t appear unlocked in the Armor Customization area.
  • Armor won’t show up if a player is wearing that armor.
  • Some armor sets were purposely combined into one set to reduce players accidentally overspending their tokens for duplicate armor. Examples include:
      • Gambit Prime Armors – Anyone who unlocked a Gambit Prime armor set has access to the Illicit (Basic) Gambit Prime Armor Synthesis universal ornaments.
      • Leviathan Prestige Class Items – The Prestige class items from the Leviathan raid uses the same arrangement as the base version, but uses a different dye to distinguish the two, so we reduced these two items into one item for Armor Synthesis.
      • Red War Parade Armors – The Legendary sets share appearances with the armor from the Red War introductory mission.
      • Green and Blue Solstice Armor – The appearances of these armors are identical without support of the Glows and were reduced to a single set. The green set also matches the wrecked parade armor, so it was reduced further.
      • Purple Solstice Armor – As we announced last week, glows from 2018’s and 2019’s Solstice of Heroes are being worked on and will be implemented later this year for the Legendary armors only.
      • Exotic Armor – Exotic armor cannot take the appearance of alternate armor, nor can Exotic armor be converted into a Universal Ornament and used on Legendary armor.
      • Year 1 Armor Ornaments – These are being worked on and will be implemented later this year.
Once the Iron Banner is back, we’ll be sure to let our readers know the Iron Bounties and more.
