Apex Legends New Modes Called “Recruit,” and “Survival” Unearthed via Game Files

Just a few days ago, we reported that a couple of new Apex Legends heroes might be coming to the game based on a datamine of the game’s files. Well, it seems that’s not the only thing we’re getting that’s new!

Found by fan-ran GamingIntel, the game’s files mentions a few new Apex Legends new modes! One of them is called “Recruit,” and it seems it’ll be a 20 vs. 20 match, and every enemy you revive will be recruited to be on your team; last team alive wins the game.

Another mode found in the files is called “Survival,” with other Apex Legends fan-ran Twitter account RealApexLeaks stating that we might see a host NPC (non-playable character), which there are eight to choose from. They’re not the normal Legends (read: the ones out now).

Finally, ApexLBR has found what appears to be a TDM mode (team deathmatch) for Apex Legends, though it could be something from Titanfall 2 given there’s the word “Pilot” at the bottom. For those unaware, Titanfall used the term Pilots for soldiers.

We’ve reached out to EA for a comment on this, and will update the story if we get a response.

For something more tangible, check out what how the Apex Legends netcode fares against the likes of Fortnite, PUBG, and more.

PlanetSide Arena Delayed, New Release Date Planned to Launch Simultaneously With PS4 Version

Originally set to launch in January 2019 before being moved to March, PlanetSide Arena is getting delayed once more. Over on the game’s official site, Daybreak Games penned a letter to fans thanking them for participating in the closed beta, and how it’ll launch the game simultaneously wit the PS4 version.

Another big thing in the letter is how all pre-orders are being refunded. Check out the full PlanetSide Arena delayed message below.

First off, a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our Closed Beta these past few weeks. Your suggestions have been crucial in providing our team with direct and meaningful gameplay feedback. We can’t even begin to express our appreciation for all of the time and effort you’ve spent helping us test and improve the game.

After much consideration, we’ve decided to postpone the current PC-only release date and launch simultaneously across PC and PlayStation 4 this summer. We’ve always envisioned PlanetSide Arena as a way for players to experience the epic gameplay of the PlanetSide universe, through fast-paced, combined arms combat and massive-scale multiplayer modes. We believe that delivering the most polished version of PlanetSide Arena that meets these expectations, on both platforms, outweighs any other consideration.

In light of our revised launch plan, we are refunding all Planetside Arena pre-orders. We’re committed to continuing and expanding our Beta testing program as we ramp-up for our multi-platform launch this Summer and will share more details soon. You can visit Steamfor more information on refunds.

Thank you all again for your amazing support. We’re very excited about the future and can’t wait see everyone back in the Arena!

– The PlanetSide Arena Team

Let’s hope Daybreak Games can nail a firm release date, and it’s actually good to stand out from the competition.

Anthem Xbox One Suspend Bug Has an Unofficial Fix and Here’s How to Do It

If you’re already playing Anthem on Xbox One via EA’s Play First program, and you suspend the game rather than closing the app, you might have noticed how it’s not working properly.

While there’s no official patch to fix this just yet, BioWare is aware of the situation. Lead Producer Michael Gamble has posted an Anthem Xbox One Suspend bug fix, and it’s relatively easy to do!

Xbox people this is important: there’s a known bug where if you suspend your game on Xbox and come back later on and resume it, it won’t re-connect. When you’re done, kill the title and relaunch when you play next. Otherwise it sits on the reconnecting screen forever

Hopefully, this will get sorted officially soon.

In other Anthem news, go check out our first look at the game’s shop and how real world currency is sold.  Make sure to bookmark MP1st’s Anthem game hub as we’ll be posting the latest news once we get them.

MP1st’s review of Anthem will hit the site soon, though expect it after launch as we’re waiting on the launch day patch to be rolled out, and of course, we want to play the game in real world conditions.

Rainbow Six Siege Operation Burnt Horizon Introduces New Operators, Watch the Gameplay Trailer Now

At today’s Six Invitational 2019, Ubisoft has announced the full details for Season 1 of Year 4 of Rainbow Six Siege! Same as before, two new Operators and a new map are entering the fold.

In Rainbow Six Siege Burnt Horizon, players will be introduced to an all-new Attacker, and all-new Defender from the Australian SASR Mobility Platoon. Named Gridlock and Mozzie, these new Operators will also come with a new map named Outback. Check out the gameplay trailer below to see the Operator gadget tips and more.

Operation Burnt Horizon brings two new Operators, the Attacker Gridlock and the Defender Mozzie, both friends for years in the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) Platoon. Gridlock uses Trax Stingers, a portable version of road spikes that when activated, deploys a hexagonal cluster of spikes. When Defenders step on them, the Trax Stingers deal damage and slow them, making this gadget a good map control tool. In the meantime, Mozzie can deploy a Pest Launcher. When launched, the Pest latches onto the nearest enemy drone and obscures its camera. The Pest then initiates an override sequence to hack the drone and grant full control to Mozzie.

Alongside these two new Operators, Burnt Horizon introduces the map Outback, a lonely service station forgotten on one of Australia’s iconic motorways. Outback is divided into three distinct sections – the Garage, the Motel, and the Restaurant – all of which are unique and distinctly recognizable, even from a distance. Outback is a medium-sized map, so players won’t need to go far to find alternative routes. Packed with twists, turns, and Australiana, Outback is filled with unexpected corners and souvenirs from the Great Southern Land.

The Test Server for Burnt Horizon will go live this February 18 for PC.

Tekken 7 DLC Characters Negan and Julia Release Date Revealed in New Trailer

There’s a new trailer out now for Tekken 7, and it showcases The Walking Dead’s Negan, and franchise returning fighter, Julia!

More importantly than the gameplay for both characters shown are the character release dates! The Tekken 7 Negan release date is now confirmed to be on February 28. Oh, and Julia will be out at that time as well.

Make sure to watch the clip to see Negan use his bat and just flat out stab someone as an attack! It looks brutal, but it looks fun, too.

If you’re not an owner of the Tekken 7 Season Pass 2, expect to pony up $4.99 for Julia, and $7.99 for Negan if you buy them piecemeal.

Apex Netcode Breakdown Reveals That It Needs Work, Comparison Chart Stacks It Against Other Titles

In almost every online multiplayer game, one of the biggest topics being discussed regardless of genre is the netcode. If you’re curious how the Apex Legends netcode is, and how it compares to other games in the shooter genre, wonder no more!

YouTuber Battle(non)sense is back at it again, and this time, he takes a deep dive into the Apex Legends servers and netcode! Given how we can’t see our in-game ping, or which server we’re connected to, Battle(non)sense had to do a little bit of finagling to find these out.

Note: tests done were on PC.

If you’re curious how it compares to the likes of Fortnite, PUBG, Battlefield V, and more, check out the graphic below.

apex legends netcode

Be sure to watch the video to see the delays for gunfights, movement and more. Note that Apex Legends does run on dedicated servers, and the outcome from the deep dive shouldn’t dictate whether you’re having fun in a game or not.

In other Apex Legends news, there are two new heroes unearthed via the game’s files, and you ca read up on their names and potential abilities here.

Surprised at the servers and netcode performance of Apex Legends? Will this affect how much fun you’re having in the game?

What’s New in the Online Gaming Industry in 2019?

New innovations are introduced to the online gaming space so frequently that it’s impossible to keep up with all of them. From Belgium banning loot boxes last year to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 not including a single-player mode, a lot has changed in the gaming scene coming into 2019. Here are some of the new trends and developments that gamers never really enjoyed until recently.

Multiplayer-Only Games

Multiplayer gamers are proving to be the future of online gaming with every day that passes by. Last year, Call of Duty surprised many when it announced Black Ops 4 would be without a single player mode. One of their reasons was to “push the best ideas forward.”

While that doesn’t exactly mean single players are a bad idea, it gives a hint of what to expect in 2019 and beyond. Your favorite online games will invest more on features that promote social playing. With Black Ops’ huge commercial success, expect FPS to delve deeper into multiplayers with all their games.

If you love single-player games, don’t worry about them becoming a thing of the past. At least not in the near future. Irrespective of what may be said on mainstream media, people have been spelling doom about single-players since 2000. Nearly 20 years later, many of the world’s best games have single player modes.

Canned Chats

Ever since backlash forced Xbox to introduce rules to their chat rooms, developers have been looking for ways to improve the way gamers chat. Live communications between gamers are still a growing phenomenon but custom chats are also cropping up.

With canned replies, you pick a message or phrase from a list of preprogrammed words and use it to talk to your opponent. You’ve probably interacted with these kinds of replies on Facebook and chat-boxes on different websites.

You want to compliment your opponent, send them a “Good Game!” reply? So, you need help to overcome rivals? Click “I need help!” Not everyone is excited about canned replies. You can’t express yourself fully and you are limited to the messages preprogrammed by developers.

With gamers having mixed feelings about canned texts, it will be hard to get rid of live chats altogether. Millions of gamers would rather talk to fellow gamers than send them a canned reply. As such, the most possible outcome will be for developers to combine canned replies with live communications.

More Console Games on mobile

Ownership of mobile devices is at an all-time high. Families with only one TV screen have about 5 mobile devices. Technology is to thank for the fast growth being witnessed in the mobile scene. With improved graphics and Operating Systems, people are loving mobile games.

PUBG, FIFA, Call of Duty and Crazy Taxi Classic are all available on mobile devices. Some, like Pro Evolution Soccer, have been on mobile platforms for more than five years. And unless anything changes, you can expect them to continue dominating play stores.

This year, Stardew Valley, Bad North, and Hi1Z1 are expected to headline the list of big games coming to mobile in 2019. In the past, developers shied away from mobile platforms for having less-advanced technologies. That has since changed.

Some modern mobile devices support up to 8GB of RAM and more than 100GB of hard drive space. The graphics are cutting-edge and the OS on both Android and iOS have proved to handle advanced games efficiently.

VR in Online Casinos

VR has been around for almost ten years. But penetrating into the consumer markets hasn’t been easy. After failing to impress TV users and being called antisocial by a section of gamers, developers haven’t given up the technology yet.

The online casino industry is expected to be where virtual reality finally succeeds. Except for live-dealer games, most gambling games online are played on a single-player mode. As such, the problem of VR immersing you into a different world alone isn’t an issue.

The biggest among them is whether VR will force players to upgrade their devices. Not everyone is willing to buy an expensive computer to experience a handful of games. The availability of good VR games and good VR devices will also determine how successful the innovation will succeed in the industry.

Games without Loot Boxes

The US government is investigating loot boxes to decide whether they should be classified as gambling. If you were keen in 2018, news about the in-game purchases was a hot topic in the gaming world.

The Belgium government warned several developers before banning the sale of loot boxes in the country. EA initially refused but would later remove them on FIFA after facing a ban. In the months that followed, some major games proactively removed loot boxes to avoid any backlash that comes with them.

Both God of War and Black Ops did not include loot boxes and made their customers aware about it before releasing the games. Expect more games to remove the in-game packages in 2018. If legislation from governments goes into full effect, loot boxes may become a thing of the past. In Belgium, where they are officially illegal, you can go to jail for five years or face a fine of up to €800,000 for selling the in-game packages.

If you are in doubt loot boxes are headed for the deathbed, have a look at this EA community members’ subreddit. Users broke Reddit’s most down-voted comment record within hours after the company said loot boxes gave players a sense of pride. On the bright side, a lot of pf companies aren’t waiting for regulations and will release their 2019 games without the controversial packages.

To Conclude

A lot of great games are coming out in 2019. While some will simply be mimics of already present games, a few developers are expected to introduce new changes to their games. Multiplayers will be the main gaming format. Loot boxes may be banned for good and VR may finally find success in the casino industry.

Battlefield V Medic Class Will Be Getting “Something Else” for Secondary Main Weapon, BF Hardline Ammo Sharing Tech Being Looked Into

If you’re playing as a Medic in Battlefield V, you’re going to love what you’re about to hear! It seems the class is getting a secondary main weapon or something similar to it soon.

Over on Twitter, a player asked whether the Medic class will be getting a secondary main weapon like how the Assault class has a fully auto and semi auto guns. This query was answered by none other than Core Gameplay Designer Florian Le Bihan who confirmed that the class will be getting “something else.”

If that’s not enough good news, Battlefield V players might (note the might) be getting one of the best introduced feature Battlefield Hardline, and that’s being able to obtain ammo from a Support teammate just by pressing a button when near them even if they don’t drop an ammo crate/pouch! This was shared by DICE LA Engineer Julian Manolov who also referenced Medal of Honor Warfighter, a game that also had this feature.

I just finished work on one core gameplay feature which MOH Warfighter and BF Hardline had. Let’s see now that the tech is here if it will get into the BFV core design 🙂

Good news, right? Let’s hope both features get implemented in the next big patch for Battlefield V. Speaking of, the flashing screen issue which was introduced in the patch last week, is being looked at by DICE, and says it’s one of the studio’s top priorities in terms of fixes.

What kind of secondary main should the Medic class get? Let us know your thoughts on it below.

Game Workers Unite Organization Calling for Activision CEO Bobby Kotick to Be Fired Amidst Mass Layoffs

Just a few days ago, during Activision’s earnings call, the publisher revealed that it has laid off about eight percent of its workforce, roughly around 775 employees from various departments. This is being implemented even while the publisher has announced that it has set a new record for revenue during the fiscal year of 2018.

Well, it seems some people have had enough. Game Workers Unite, a grassroots labor organization, is calling for Activision CEO Bobby Kotick to be fired due the firing of almost 800 employees all the while Activision execs receive millions in bonuses and salary.

According to the organization, Bobby Kotick’s annual salary of $30 million dollars is enough to cover the salaries of all the people laid off if you divide it. Not only that, but the union also questions the $15 million dollar “bonus” Activision CFO Dennis Durkin received just for “changing his job title.”  We’ve listed down the series of tweets below, which is also marked by the hashtag, #FireBobbyKotick.

Upending 800 workers’ lives while raking in millions in bonuses for you and your c-suite buddies isn’t leadership, it’s theft. We, the workers of Activision and their friends, have had enough. Join us in saying that it’s time to

The 800 workers who helped with community management, marketing games, running eSports, legal, and so much more are all far more valuable than the CEO. When making the decision to cut someone from Activision we’d choose to every time.

Bobby Kotick has been raking in $30 million dollars a year as Activision CEO, that massive income doesn’t come from nowhere. It comes from the labor of his employees. Kotick’s wealth is built from the stolen wages of his workers.

Activision, under Kotick’s leadership, gave a $15 million dollar bonus to the CFO *just for changing his job title* then they have the gall to turn around and lay off 800 workers just days later?

Not convinced Kotick’s leadership is anything but greedy and exploitative? Iwata, as CEO of Nintendo, cut his own pay during times of trouble to ensure no employees would lose their jobs. And Activision saw record profits this year! They have no excuse.

If we divided Kotick’s obscene annual pay (one the highest paid CEOs in the world) it alone could pay full salaries for all 800 laid off workers.

It’s disgusting to hear Kotick boasting about record revenue for the company then announcing an 8% staffing cut in the next breath. Kotick was especially proud to announce the 9% bump to stockholder values. That 9% comes from our labor.

The cycle of layoffs continue to derail our industry because of the prioritization of shareholder profits over workers lives and quality game development. If you want to help change the industry for the better, we encourage you to get involved today.

The petition calling for Bobby Kotick’s head is now at over 3,000 signees out of its target of 4,000. You can check it out here.

While the sentiment is there, and the organization is made up of game developers from various studios across the world, even if the petition hits its target or even doubles it, I doubt it’ll be enough to unseat the current Activision CEO.

Here’s The Division 2 Map Overlay of Washington DC via Google Maps

In case you didn’t know, The Division 2 is set in Washington DC compared to the first one which was set in New York. If you’re curious how The Division 2 map compares to its real life counterpart, this might pique your curiosity even more.

Shared by a member of The Division Elites Facebook fanpage (closed group) is a Google Maps overlay of The Division 2 map complete with landmarks, identified locations and more! You can check out the map here, and the maker said that it’ll be updated constantly after launch as more info becomes available.

While we aren’t expecting a 1:1 recreation of Washington DC, if Ubisoft Massive can come somewhat close, that in itself is already impressive.

In other The Division 2 news, don’t forget that we’re getting an open beta this March! Bad news for those who played the private beta, as your progress won’t carry over to the open beta.

Also mentioned by Treyarch is the arrival of League Play! It’s going to roll out for the PS4 first, with the Xbox One, and PC set to arrive it a week later as is with the other events and content.

League Play Arrives Feb. 21 on PS4

As we mentioned in our recent League Play blog, the World League Hub and League Play are coming to Black Ops 4 as part of next week’s new Operation on PS4, and League Play kicks off later in the week with our first League Play Event starting on Thursday, Feb. 21.

We can’t wait to see how the competitive meta evolves with the gameplay tuning changes listed above. Remember, the Pro Series Playlist is your chance to test out new loadouts based on the latest tuning changes and CWL rules, to make sure you’re ready to hit the ground running when League Play launches. Let’s do this.

Report: New Apex Legends Hero Names Unearthed via Game Files

While Apex Legends has only been out for a few weeks, it seems Respawn Entertainment already has a few new Legends (or Heroes if you’re used to calling them that) set to enter the fray soon.

Over on Reddit, user fmarton999 has posted a datamined list straight from the game’s files. Along with the known Apex Legends, uh, Legends (Heroes), there’s a few included in the list that aren’t known just yet. Check the Apex Legends new Heroes (or their names) below.

In case it wasn’t obvious enough, the names not included in the current Apex Legends roster are Wattson and Octane. If the current roster and their abilities are any indication, chances are Wattson and Octane will have some powers that are related to what we’ve seen in Titanfall 2.

If I had to hazard a guess, Wattson’s skills will involve electicity (Watt, get it?), and Octane will somehow incorporate vehicles or speed given his/her name. Of course, these could also be the names of rejected Apex Legends that weren’t tekn out, though the chances of that are highly unlikely.

For more on Apex Legends, check out the latest patch for the game that introduces a few new items. Stay tuned for an upcoming Apex Legends feature here on MP1st.

Battlefield V Flashing Screen Bug Is Being Looked Into by DICE, Talks About Combined Arms Development

While DICE’s latest patch for Battlefield V introduced a slew of improvements and additions, it seems to have introduced a new bug as well. If you’ve been playing the game after the patch rolled out this week, you might have noticed a “flashing” screen issue when you’re trying to spawn on a teammate, which, unfortunately, is still present in the game.

Over on Reddit, DICE held an AMAA (Ask Me Almost Anything) session that involved a few DICE developers fielding questions from the community, and naturally, this Battlefield 5 flashing screen issue has been bought up. According to DICE developer Florian Le Bihan (DRUNKZ23), this flashing screen issue is one of the studio’s top issues right now, and they’ll do their best to get it patched soon.

In another part of the AMAA, another user asked about the recently-released co-op mode Combined Arms, and why it was released now when there are more pressing issues in multiplayer that can be addressed. Short answer? Different teams working on different areas of the game. Here’s what North America Community Manager Jeff Braddock had to say:

You can check out the full AMAA session right here.

Have you found a workaround for the Battlefield 5 flashing issue screen bug? If so, let us know how to do it in the comments below.

The Division 2 Private Beta Progress Won’t Carry Over to the Open Beta

If you took part in The Division 2 private beta (like I did), and was planning on taking part in the upcoming open beta, you’ll have to start everything from scratch, sadly. Yes, it’s now confirmed that The Division 2 private beta progress will not carry over to the open beta!

This was confirmed by The Division 2 Live Content Manager Yannick over on Twitter in response to a tweet made by fan-ran account The Division Forums. For some odd reason, the original tweet has been pulled, but we have a screenshot of it.

I admit, this is a bummer since this means I have to re-do the missions I already tackled before just to gain the abilities, weapons and other stuff I already obtained via the private beta. That said, I do understand why Ubisoft is doing it.

We’ve also emailed Ubisoft in regards to if private beta participants will need to re-download the open beta client or if it’ll just require a patch.

For our hands-on impressions of The Division 2 private beta, check here. PC players, don’t forget that you’ll receive a free game for buying the game digitally on PC.

Anthem In-Game Store With Prices for Launch First Look. Here’s the First Set of Purchasable Items

In case you didn’t know, Anthem will have an in-game store that will have cosmetics and other items that won’t affect game balance purchasable via the in-game currency called “Coins,” or with real world money by buying Shards Packs.

With BioWare already confirming that they’ll constantly tweak the store prices and rotate items daily, we now have our first look at how much the javelin skins cost initially (at least for now), along with vinyls and emotes. Check out our first look at the Anthem game store (via Reddit user Mo310):

Fair enough for you or priced too high? Remember: these are cosmetic items and CAN be earned just by grinding for Coins.

In other Anthem news, go check out the complete Trophies/Achievements list right here. We also posted the live-action Anthem short film directed by District 9 director Neill Blomkamp.
