Monster Hunter World Now Capcom’s Best-Selling Game of All Time

Who’d have thought that slaying monsters would beat out every other thing Capcom has published? As part of Capcom’s latest financial results, the publisher has announced that Monster Hunter World sales have now exceeded over 12 million units shipped for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC!

This makes Monster Hunter World the best-selling title ever in Capcom’s storied history! Given how Capcom has published some of the most iconic games of all time in Street Fighter II, Resident Evil, etc., this is no small feat by the action game.

Per Capcom: “Monster Hunter World … continued to report strong sales. with total shipments breaking 12 million units, marking a record high for any single title in the company’s history.

Additional details from Capcom has mentioned that the fantastic Resident Evil 2 Remake has shipped over four million units, while Devil May Cry 5 has shipped over two million units. Note that these are units shipped and not sold.

Congrats, Capcom! And here’s to more monsters slayed and made out as armor parts in the future!

Have you given up hope on the Battlefield 5 rent a server becoming a reality? I hope not as today, DICE has revealed a ton of details about it! While we don’t know the exact day for the Battlefield 5 rent a server release date, DICE said it’s coming this summer.

In addition to the release window, a ton of details about it have been revealed. Here’s a summary of what DICE has revealed today (via Reddit):

  • RSP is now rebranded as Private Games
  • It’s coming after this Summer
  • It will be available for all Battlefield V players
  • We plan to offer the base level of Private Games tools for FREE

PRIVATE GAMES

We’ll be rolling out Private Games after this Summer to all Battlefield V owners, and development will evolve over time. Today, we want to detail what you can expect for the first release.

Private Games will grant you the ability to create your own Battlefield V server, directly from within the main menu, or through a browser via a new web service that we’re creating. The servers that you create will remain online while there are people playing on it. If no one is active on the server, it goes away. But don’t worry! With the server configs saved locally, the ability to quickly start a new Private Game or switch between various server setups will be available.

The servers you create will be located at the closet ping site to you and will be placed within our own server infrastructure.

There will be no cost for base level of Private Games tools, it will be free for everyone.

So, what’s in the box?

For the first phase of Private Games, we’ve included some important “must-haves” as well as administration tools to let you control your server.
These are the features we plan on having live for Phase 1, but some items could be added or shifted to a later phase. We’ll definitely keep you informed over the coming months.

Core Functionality

  • Create private game from main menu
  • Set custom name for the server
  • Set description for the server
  • Password protect the server
  • Control what maps are used within the map rotation
  • Control what game modes are available
  • Control the number of players needed to break pre-round
  • Kick players from the current game
  • Control what classes are available
  • Control what weapons are allowed
  • Control if vehicles are allowed
  • Control if the kill cam will be displayed
  • Turn friendly fire on or off
  • Turn regenerative health on or off
  • Change soldier tags as visible or not
  • Enable or disable third-person camera view
  • Enable squad leader spawn only
  • Enable or disable aim assist auto rotation
  • Enable or disable aim assist cooldown
  • Control bullet damage scaling
  • Control game mode ticket scaling
  • Control soldier and vehicle respawn timers
  • Turn the mini map on or off
  • Enable or disable the compass

Organization Options

  • Apply a pre-set config to a private game
    • Vanilla, Infantry only, DICE-authored etc.
  • Save your server settings as a custom preset so you can reapply at will
  • Have your name highlighted in chat if you’re the owner of the server
  • Administrate and manage server settings in the main menu or via our Private Games web portal
  • Have the description of your Private Game presented on the loading screen
  • Manually switch specific players between teams
  • Report private games in the advanced search screen

This is just the beginning. We’ll be following up with further updates, such as creating and managing lists of moderators, VIPs, and banned players, and more.

Additionally, DICE talks about the “community development initiative,” which is a fancy way of saying that they’re building features and improvements on the Battlefield 5 rent a server with the help of the community.

Lastly, at this June’s EA Play event, DICE will be doing a dev talk knonwn as “On the Battlefield,” where the devs will answer some of the biggest questions regarding the game and the rent a server feature.

EA Access PS4 Announced, Starts This July

If you’re a fan of EA-published titles and you mostly game on a PC and/or Xbox One, chances are you’ve already signed up or at least tried EA’s EA Access subscription service. For those who game on a PS4 and want in on the action, rejoice! EA has announced that EA Access PS4 membership program is starting this July!

In a press release, EA announced that the EA Access service will be available to PS4 gamers this July for a monthly subscription of $4.99, or an annual subscription of $29.99. For those not familiar with EA Access, it’s a subscription-based service that lets players experience the publisher’s “Play First Trials,” where they can play up to 10 hours of most of the publisher’s new games. Subscribers will also be granted a 10 percent discount on full game purchases, DLC, and more.

Oh, and of course, there’s also the library of EA games that members can play too.

This should be a welcome addition to PS4 gamers who are already members of PlayStation Plus. I mean for that monthly or annual price, you’ll be able to try out the latest EA games to know whether they’re worth your hard earned money or not, and that alone is worth the admission price, no?

Anthem Update 1.1.1 Patch Notes Now Out and Listed, Loot Exploit Fixed by BioWare

While players might be looking forward to the next Anthem patch, this might not be it. Today, BioWare rolled out the Anthem update 1.1.1 patch notes, and yeah, it doesn’t look good.

According to BioWare, no downtime is expected with this Anthem update, though players will need to close the game to download the patch. Also of note, Elysian Caches will be going away on May 7 (today), so if you have any keys left, be sure to use them.

Anthem update 1.1.1 patch notes:

  • Fixed an error where Weapon and Components stat values were not displaying correctly.
  • Fixed a problem where suit power level (rarity) was not correctly being calculated based on equipped items.
  • Fixed an issue with Spanish audio in a conversation in the Sunken Cell stronghold.
  • Fixed an issue with French audio in a conversation in the Sunken Cell stronghold.
  • Fixed an issue causing a slight delay in Salvaging at End of Expedition
  • Partially defeated encounters will no longer re-dispense loot from previously defeated creatures.
  • [PC ONLY] – Right clicking an item to salvage it at the end of expedition screen now requires the mouse button to be held.

Yep, not only did BioWare not do any loot drop improvements, but the loot exploit has been fixed! Hopefully, BioWare will release a new patch that has significant gameplay tweaks (and loot improvements) soon!

Speaking of BioWare, the studio explained the lack of communication on their end. In case you’re not happy with your purchase, a gamer managed to get a refund for the game and here’s how.

Gamer Might Have Figured Out the Borderlands 3 Level Scaling Formula Using Math

In games like Borderlands 3, there’s a huge emphasis on damage dealt (be it guns or abilities) as well as leveling up and so on. If you’re curious how the Borderlands 3 level scaling formula is done, this gamer might have figured it all out using math!

Reddit user SirArkohn posted a lengthy explanation of his findings, which has since been appreciated a lot by the Borderlands community since his post is now at well over 3,000 upvotes. To make sure we don’t muck anything up, or don’t lose anything in translation, you can read up on his full formula observation below.

I think I’ve figured out the level scaling formula for Borderlands 3.
byu/SirArkhon inBorderlands

In Borderlands 1, HP increased by a flat, linear rate of 15 per level, which tended to make the second playthrough feel stagnant as you had a harder time finding better loot (gear in general also followed this linear increase). You could find a gun that would easily last you the entire playthrough and never find anything good enough to upgrade to. In Borderlands 2 (and, I believe, The Pre Sequel), your HP (and all other stats) increased at an exponential rate, going up by 13% every level. This meant that you were pushed to upgrade your gear the entire way through the game, but many people dislike how quickly guns became obsolete.

So, I’ve checked out the gameplay from last week and compiled a small table of max health values at a few levels, and think I’ve found out how they’re doing level scaling. These data points are all assumed to be from characters with no skills or gear modifying them.

Level Actual HP Formula HP
1 87 87.20
2 95 95.05
4 112 112.93
5 123 123.09
10 189 189.39
25 689 689.85

From what I can tell, HP in Borderlands 3 is given by a formula of HP = 80 x 1.09Level and dropping any decimal remainder. Every data point I’ve found fits this curve. From this formula, we can extrapolate a theoretical max HP at level 72 of 39,609; this is over an order of magnitude smaller than BL2’s baseline max of 530,564.

This will make loot last about forty percent longer than in 2 as stats will take log(1.09,2)=8 levels to double instead of 5.7.

Personally, I think this is great news. I didn’t want BL1’s system as it’s one of that game’s weakest points and made the second playthrough far less fun than the first. I also didn’t want the second game’s system as it makes finding legendaries almost meaningless until you’ve hit max level. This appears to be a nice little Goldilocks zone where it’s between the other two games. If this lowered level scaling factor is combined with better drop rates (we can’t really tell what the drop rates will be like in the final game as they were almost certainly modified in the reveal event for demonstration purposes), the game should be much more fun to play.

Edit: Apparently, TPS uses 10% level scaling, which would put it much closer to 3 than to 2.

Edit 2: I added in values for the exponential formula, rounded to the nearest .01, to the table.

Speaking to MP1st, SirArkhon mentions that he used HP as a metric because other in-game stats like weapon/grenade damage, enemy HP/damage and shield capacity can be expected to scale at the same rate as player health.

“In practice, this 9% scaling essentially means that gear will last players noticeably longer than in Borderlands 2 (13%), and slightly longer even than in The Pre Sequel (10%). The game will still push players to upgrade regularly as gear becomes obsolete, but if you find a weapon you like, it won’t become worthless after about an hour of playtime.”

Given how developers don’t usually explain how level scaling and such works in their games, this might be the unofficial official Borderlands 3 level scaling formula for now.

In other Borderlands 3 news, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford isn’t sold on the idea of selling DLC characters for the loot shooter post-launch. Here’s his explanation as to why.

Borderlands 3 will loot its way out onto the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this September 13.

New Xbox Controller With Haptic Braille Output Patented by Microsoft

Here’s something rather cool: Microsoft is helping handicapped gamers enjoy gaming more and this time, it’s via an Xbox controller that supports braille!

A new Xbox controller patent has been filed by Microsoft back in October 2018, though the document themselves were only made public this May 2, 2019. As you can see below, it looks like a standard Xbox One gamepad  though with a few major additions. There’s a braille attachment at the bottom of the controller along with six paddles extending from the sides, which are also equipped with braille. In the filing, it says that this new Xbox controller would recognize the player’s speech and convert these commands to braille.

new xbox controller

Bear in mind that companies file patents for stuff all the time, and these are not guarantees that we’ll see them released. That said, I do hope we see this one see the light of day since it’ll benefit a lot of handicapped gamers.

Do you think we’ll see this controller surface this generation or the next one? What other changes can Microsoft do to the Xbox controller to make it more accessible to people with disabilities? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Report: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 New Tactical Rifle Leaked via the COD Mobile App

In case you didn’t know, Activision launched a new Call of Duty app late last year to coincide with Black Ops 4’s release. In it, players can change loadouts, check stats, and more. Well, apparently, it’s now also a source of leaked stuff!

Over on Reddit, user BanimmeDoeReddit spotted a Black Ops 4 new tactical rifle called the S6 Stingray as part of the tactical rifles list! There’s only one problem though, there is no S6 Stingray tactical rifle in the game just yet!

black ops 4 new tactical rifle

As you can see, it’s lumped in with the current tactical rifles like the Swordfish, ABR, etc. Bear in mind though, there’s no guarantee that this will be in the game, but given how Treyarch has rolled out new guns in Black Ops 4 via new Operations and whatnot, this could very well be the new gun coming down the line soon.

Hopefully, this won’t be part of Activision’s player “testing” and can be earned without a lot of fuss.

Possible Ghost Recon New Game Announcement Teased for May 9 (Updated)

Update:

Well, it’s confirmed now. This teaser is for a new Ghost Recon game! The official (and verified) Ubisoft Japan Twitter posted a super short teaser and yes, it also points to the May 9 date.

Original Story:

While Ghost Recon Wildlands is still being heavily supported by Ubisoft even if it’s been more than 24 months since it launched, could a new Ghost Recon game announcement not be far off? Earlier this year, we reported on an Easter egg hidden in Ghost Recon Wildlands’ DLC, which hints at something Tom Clancy related.

Could this something be a Ghost Recon new game announcement? It seems highly likely that it is. Broken down by YouTuber coreross (via PCGamesN), there’s even an invitation to an event called Skell Con, which is scheduled for May 9, 2019, and is set at 11:30 PDT/2:30 p.m. EDT. Stating the obvious here, but that seems like a time and date specified by Ubisoft for an impending announcement.

Further adding to the Ghost Recon new game announcement is that the Skell Tech website which is featured on the invitation for May 9 includes a temporary “rating pending” marker by the ESRB, which is usually used by games that just got announced with no firm ESRB rating just yet.

While odds are that this is a new Ghost Recon game given that the Skell Tech company is mentioned in the Ghost Recon Wildlands Fallen Ghosts DLC, this could very well be for another franchise or a new game entirely. Maybe a new Splinter Cell title perhaps? Something connected to Rainbow Six Siege? Your guess is as good as mine at this point.

Stay tuned this May 9 as we’ll get to the bottom of this. Let’s hope all this teasing amounts to something and it’s not just an announcement for another announcement.

Battlefield 5 New Tank and Vehicle Variants Mined and Here’s What They Look Like

Earlier today, we published a story regarding the Battlefield 5 tank body customization info and images that were unearthed via the game files. Well, as one might expect, there’s a lot more of that. Below, there’s a Battlefield 5 new tank, and vehicle variants, which might or might not make it into the game.

This first batch was unearthed by Reddit user Jaccku10, which also includes 3D models extracted from the game files though they don’t have any textures.

T17E2 (Staghound AA): The T17E2 was an T17E1 fitted with a Frazer-Nash-designed turret mounting two 0.5 inch M2 Browning heavy machine guns. The turrets were built in the US for British Motor Torpedo Boats. Redesign of the turret and mounting was carried out. 2,610 rounds were carried. The turret was open-topped and had an electric-hydraulic traverse system with a maximum slew rate of 55 degrees a second. It had a reduced crew of 3: commander/gunner, loader and driver

T17E3 : T17E1 fitted with the turret of 75 mm Howitzer Motor Carriage M8, carrying the 75mm M2/M3 howitzer. This was trialed in December 1943, but never reached production.

Sd.Kfz. 251/17 : Schützenpanzerwagen (2 cm). Anti-aircraft vehicle armed with a 2 cm KwK38 on a pedestal mounting with a small armored turret to protect the gunner. Late war, it was issued as a platoon commander’s vehicle to replace the Sd.Kfz. 251/10

Next up, Battlefield 5 dataminer temporyal has dug up the Churchill AVRE, which is an unreleased game model with custom desert vegetation camo, barbed wire and sandbags all over it.

Lastly, Jaccku010 has the Panzerjager 38 unearthed, which you can see below.

I gather, these won’t be the last datamined info we’ll see. And remember: there’s no guarantee that we’ll see these in the game soon or at all.

New Sony State of Play Set for This Week

With Sony confirming it won’t be attending E3 this year, the company has decided to take a page out of Nintendo’s playbook and has instead started what it calls the “State of Play,” which are smaller, pre-made video shows that talks about upcoming games and so on.

While we had the first State of Play kick off in March, a new Sony State of Play has just been announced! In a press release, Sony has announced that a new State of Play is set for this May 9, at 10 p.m. EDT (May 10, 6 a.m. Hong Kong time)! It’ll be a quick one, with the presser stating that it’ll only be 15 minutes long, though there are some “PS4 update” included in teh show.

Sony has also mentioned that expect the new Sony State of Play set for this week to talk about the PS5 at all. To quote the press release, “Don’t expect any updates relating to our next-generation plans this time. Sorry!”

Same as before, people can watch it on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook and other social media platforms. We’ll, of course, have it up a few minutes before it airs.

In today’s gaming climate, a game getting DLC is all but a certainty. And with Borderlands 3’s focus on not only guns but on character-specific abilities, Borderlands 3 DLC characters being available post-launch is a certainty, right? Well, apparently, it’s not a lock just yet.

Over on Twitter, Gearbox Software head honcho Randy Pitchford was asked about the possibility of Borderlands 3 DLC Vault Hunters, and here’s what Pitchford said:

We are focused on the main game for now, but my feelings are that it might be better for us to put our time into expanding what the existing vault hunters can do and how interesting their future growth is instead of adding new ones to start over with. Data seems to support this.

That is true for some users, but my analysis of the data suggests the vast majority of players would benefit from expansion to existing characters ahead of creation of new characters. Now’s not the time for this, though, we have a game to finish!

Fans chimed in that without DLC characters, people would have never gotten Krieg or Gaige, which is of course, true. Then again, we don’t know what data Pitchford has, so there is a chance it really is saying that expanding on current characters is better than introducing new paid ones. Bear in mind though, the game is still in development, and nothing’s set in stone yet, so the possibility of seeing Borderlands 3 DLC characters is neither confirmed or shot down.

Battlefield 5 M1 Garand Unearthed in the Game Files

If you’re a fan of World War 1 or World War 2 era shooters, chances are you’ve used the M1 Garand at some point or another. If you’re looking forward to using it in Battlefield 5 or just wondering why it’s not in the game, well, wonder no more!

Thanks to datamining the most recent Battlefield 5 patch, Reddit user temporyal has unearthed the Battlefield 5 M1 Garand game files! Unfortunately, the mention of the gun is all the info mined so far. No release window, which Challenge it’ll be tied with, or what Tides of War chapter it’ll be in, and so on. We do found out how it was uncovered, and it was under a file referring to the katana weapon which was unearthed in an earlier leak.

Give how highly anticipated this gun is (since it usually shreds in multiplayer shooters), it’s an exciting leak for Battlefield 5 fans. Granted, not everything leaked makes it into the game, but with how popular the weapon is, it’s just a question of when rather than if.

In other leaked Battlefield 5 info, check out the week 10 Challenges for Trial By Fire here.

Are you excited to use the M1 Garand in Battlefield 5 or do you think DICE will make it underpowered?

This Left 4 Dead 3 Trailer Is a Fake, but You’ll Want to Watch It Anyway

Even if you didn’t play a lot of games back then, chances are you know of Valve’s Left 4 Dead zombie franchise. While Left 4 Dead 2 was a huge success for Valve, for some reason or another, we never got Left 4 Dead 3. Just recently, a Left 4 Dead 3 trailer made the rounds on YouTube, and before anyone gets their hopes up, Valve has confirmed it’s a fake.

In fairness though, it’s a very good fake Left 4 Dead 3 trailer, and even if we know it’s fake, it’s still worth a watch since this might be the closest thing we’ll ever see anything attached to the zombie franchise anytime soon.

Impressive, right? Too bad it’s nothing more than trailer showing us what could have been. In case you didn’t know, Left 4 Dead 2 was released back in 2009, which means we’re now in year 10 of not hearing anything about a sequel.

If you’re interested in playing a game similar to Left 4 Dead, you might want to give World War Z a try. It has the same survival elements mixed in with different zombie types. Oh, it has a good progression system too. Go check out our review if you’re curious how it fares.
