Here’s Your First Look at the Next Major Xbox One Firmware Update

Xbox fans, prepare for a bunch of new features set to come your way soon. Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb shows off the next major Xbox One firmware update set to hit later this year.

Major Nelson is joined by Xbox Platform Engineer Mike Ybarra, and they give us a virtual tour of the new Xbox One menus. There are “content blocks,” and new customization options for those who obsess over these kinds of stuff.

Ybarra even shows and explains how to add, edit these content blocks. Possibly one of the best new tweaks is the new guide which will (hopefully) let gamers go to their preferred destination on the dashboard much, much faster.

There’s currently no release date yet for this Xbox One update, but once we hear of one, we’ll let you know.

The Last of Us Part II Setting Research Points to Seattle Location

Posting on Pixel Enemy, JPOTT Gaming has compiled research on The Last of Us Part II‘s possible setting. Based on various scenes shown during the reveal trailer, folks on Reddit linked screenshots to real-life items and landmarks, which when combined, make for some pretty compelling speculation.

You can watch the full video embedded here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arjn-BTGAow

If it’s true that the single-player portion of the game is indeed set in Seattle, then we’d imagine a map or two of the (presumably still present) multiplayer would be set there too. Perhaps we’ll be able to fight atop the Space Needle, with a long fall being the punishment for losing!

If The Last of Us Part II does turn out to be based in Seattle, where would you like to fight it out in player versus player combat?

The original game’s multiplayer portion was one of my favorite ever PVP experiences, so I have high hopes for the sequel!

Destiny 2 Multiplayer Trailer Is Frenetic, New Map & Possible Exotic Launcher Showcased

Pitting a team of four against another team of four is Destiny 2‘s new way of doing things, reducing the player count to make for less chaotic, yet still very intense, engagements. To prove that battles in the sequel will be just as enjoyable as in the original game, Bungie has released a trailer showing off the competitive multiplayer in all its glory.

A (now very, very excited) announcer introduces each class, as they lay waste to one another on a newly revealed Crucible map. Give it a watch just below!

Plenty of death and destruction at the hands of Guardians who have regained their Light! Lots of interesting weaponry on display, too, including this insane-looking launcher that took out three Guardians with one shot:

That’s got to be an Exotic, right?! The Destiny experts over at Planet Destiny seem to think so, anyway!

What do you make of the trailer? Excited for Destiny 2‘s competitive multiplayer component? Let us know down below.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds gamescom Crate Opening, Offers Chance At Winning $600 In-Game Mini-Skirt

Over on Pixel Enemy, I took a look at the new “Gamescom Invitational Crate” that has been added as part of this month’s update. Using the 100,000 coins that were made available on the Test Server, I bought as many crates as possible. Added as a way to fund the “PUBG Gamescom Invitational” event, the Gamescom Crate requires a key to open. Those keys cost $2.50 apiece.

Curious to see if the Gamescom Crate is worth investing in, I opened a bunch. Check it out below!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdbOZK4pvL8

Each crate contains a random cosmetic drop, one of which is the highly sought-after purple mini-skirt. You can get this in regular, not paid-for Survivor Crates as well. We’re not entirely sure what makes this skirt so special, but obviously there’s something we’re missing, as it’s currently selling for upwards of $600! You can see more on that in the video embedded below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FbzFb_ztqY

Will you be paying for access to Gamescom Crates? How about that purple mini-skirt? We won’t judge you… much.

If you don’t plan on opening any paid-for crates, I’d recommend selling them on the Steam Marketplace. They’re going for about $3 each, at time of posting.

Project Cars 2 Xbox One X Offers “Significant, Noticeable Improvement” Over PS4 Pro, Game’s Director Confirms

Project Cars 2 is coming to PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X and PC, making for one hell of a challenge when it comes to optimization. While the core gameplay will remain the same, visual quality will be dictated by the graphics horsepower on offer.

During an interview with Trusted Reviews, Slightly Mad Studios Game Director, Stephen Viljoen, discussed the difference in performance between platforms. Most interesting was his mention of the Xbox One X beating out the PS4 Pro.

“I can’t tell you exactly what all the various sliders will be at when you’re on Xbox One X versus on PS4 Pro, but obviously they’ll be higher, so there will be a significant, a noticeable improvement, because you have better hardware.”

We already know that Microsoft’s system is going to be more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but it’s still good to hear that third-party developers are taking advantage of all of the extra power, rather than settling for a state of parity.

Thinking about picking up an Xbox One X? What do you make of these comments?

For Honor Free Weekend Announced, New Season 3 Content Teased

Those who haven’t yet picked up For Honor will get the chance to try it out for free this weekend. As for those who have already picked the game up, well you should be excited too, as there’s a massive influx of noobs incoming!

Here are the times when the trial will be available to play:

PlayStation 4 – 10/08 at 7AM UTC to 14/08 11:59PM UTC

Xbox One – 10/08 at 7AM UTC to 14/08 11:59PM UTC

PC – 10/08 at 5PM UTC to 13/08 at 8PM UTC

If you’re on PC, remember that For Honor is only accessible through Uplay PC. Those on PS4 will find the trial in the PSN Store, while Xbox One owners will spy it sitting amongst the “Games with Gold” section of the marketplace.

To take part in the free weekend, PS4 users will require PS Plus, while on Xbox One you’ll be needing Xbox LIVE Gold. PC players can play unhindered.

The For Honor free trial can be preloaded on PS4 and PC from August 8 onwards. Those with an Xbox One will have no such luxury.

Any progress you make during the free weekend will be transferred over to the full game, should you decide to buy it.

In addition to the “Free Weekend” trailer, Ubisoft posted a tease at the upcoming “Grudge and Glory” update. You can get a glimpse at the new Highlander and Gladiator heroes in the clip above.

Here’s what’s coming to the game on August 15:

Grudge and Glory” will bring the largest updates to For Honor to date with the introduction of new heroes, maps, gear, ranked play and a wealth of gameplay updates. All maps and gameplay updates will be free for all players at the start of Season Three. The new heroes, the proud Highlander and the deadly Gladiator, will be available free for Season Pass holders on August 15, while all other players will be able to unlock them in-game on August 22 for 15,000 Steel.

The never-ending war between Knights, Vikings and Samurai welcomes two new deadly Heroes into the fray:

• Highlander (Viking [Class]) – Stoic and guarded, Highlanders are patient heroes capable of switching between two different fighting forms. Their defensive form allows for counter-attacking and trading blows, while their offensive form empowers them to unleash their deadliest attacks at the expense of being able to block. Wielding the heaviest and longest sword in the game, the Highlander’s massive claymore gives them a deadly combination of strength and range.

• Gladiator (Knight [Class]) – Wielding a trident and shield, the Gladiator has made a living off of killing for sport, they now bring their ruthlessness and skill to war. Fighters by trade, they are brash and boastful; equipped with little armor, they can punch their opponents to create separation to set up attacks and stuns. Their larger stamina meter and reduced cool down times make them extremely agile and dangerous opponents.

There’s a lot happening in For Honor! Will you be giving the trial a go? Or, perhaps you’re already an experienced warrior and looking forward to the “Grudge and Glory” content? Let us know.

LawBreakers Launch Trailer Combines Insane Gameplay Clips, Demands You “Bring Your Skills”

It’s launch day for Boss Key’s gravity-defying LawBreakers, and we’ve been presented with a high-octane gameplay trailer to mark the occasion. Entitled “Skilled AF”, the video (which you can click and watch just below) features a montage of epic clips interwoven with quotes of praise from various gaming personalities.

Boss Key is really pushing this “Skilled AF” message, going as far as to add it to the trailer as a watermarked hashtag.

The video’s description reads:

Are you Skilled AF? Elevate your multiplayer skills in a new futuristic world from the mind of gaming legend Cliff Bleszinski. Prepare to put your FPS skills to the test and engage in a new kind of combat with low-gravity action and high-speed twitch shooting.

Looks and sounds pretty intense!

It’s been almost two years since Boss Key announced that LawBreakers was coming. A lot of testing has been done, and so we’re expecting this launch to go relatively smoothly.

Now that LawBreakers has launched on both PC and PS4, will be you giving this multiplayer-only first-person shooter a play?

MP1st Respawns – Welcome to MP1st 2.0!

Established back in 2011, MP1st was the go-to place for everything multiplayer. Whether you were a Call of Duty or Battlefield fan, you wanted a more co-op slanted affair to multiplayer, MP1st had you covered. However, in case you haven’t noticed, MP1st has been in — for lack of a better term — limbo for months now. Sure, there’s the sporadic update here and there, but for the most part, it has remained dormant since early last year.

Well, things are about to change starting today! As of this moment, MP1st has new people at the helm — and new owners! Starting the MP1st revolution is me, Alex Co, former MP1st contributor (years, and years ago!) and someone whom you might know (or not know) from my previous gigs over at Pixel Enemy, PlayStation LifeStyle, The Escapist Magazine, Gameranx and more. I’ll be taking on the role of Editor-in-Chief of MP1st!

Joining me will be none other than Mack Ashworth, multimedia savant whom I’ve worked with at Pixel Enemy and PlayStation LifeStyle. Mack will be the Managing Editor of MP1st moving forward.

Speaking of Pixel Enemy, you might have noticed that the popular YouTube channel now has a permanent residence over here on MP1st’s front page, and there’s a reason for that as well. With Pixel Enemy now owned by both Mack and I, we’ve decided to integrate the YouTube channel with MP1st to not only help each other up, but to cater to everyone’s different gaming tastes.

What will change for MP1st’s respawn? Expect a lot more updates moving forward! From daily multiplayer news, game and hardware reviews, features, guides, videos and more! We’re giving MP1st (and Pixel Enemy) our full attention and years of experience working in games media. Expect more first-person shooter news, more stuff covering eSports and sports games — if it has a multiplayer component, we’re down to covering it!

We want to thank David Veselka and Fahed Jaradat for the trust they’ve given us to allow us to takeover and make MP1st our own. Don’t be surprised to see former MP1st contributors make an appearance here and there in the future, even!

You can email us directly for any suggestions, comments, or you can also tweet us via the official MP1st Twitter, Facebook or to our own personal Twitter accounts (Alex, Mack). Expect the site to undergo a few tweaks here and there when it comes to functionality and appearance over the coming days and weeks!

Respawn: We’re Doing More Titanfall

While Titanfall 2 managed to impress critics when it launched last year, it didn’t quite live up to publisher EA’s lofty sales expectations given its odd release window of being sandwiched between two first-person shooter juggernauts’ Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

In spite of that, though, it seems fans can expect Titanfall 3 at some point in the future — unless Respawn Entertainment drops the numbered releases. In an interview with GameSpot, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella mentioned that it’s very important for the studio to keep the Titanfall franchise going, and that they’re “heavily invested” in the Titanfall universe.

GameSpot: I’d be remiss not to mention this, but one thing that was talked about in the wake of Titanfall 2’s launch was how crowded the 2016 holiday season. While Titanfall 2 seemed to have fallen short in sales compared to the original, the community is still present and accounted for. Do you have comments about how last year’s sales season went?

Vince Zampella: The game was successful, it sold well, but it didn’t quite sell as well as it should have. Maybe because it was super crowded, the pricing was aggressive–it was a rough window to launch our game. But we’ve got a really great fanbase. There’s not really much negativity or acidity compared to other communities, so I’m very thankful for that. It’s important for us to keep the franchise going. “We’re doing more Titanfall,” which is the quote I’m supposed to say. We have our franchise creative director, who’s in charge of safeguarding the franchise in multiple formats and making sure it continues to grow. There’s some other things we’re doing that haven’t been announced just yet, but we’re heavily invested in the Titanfall universe.

In another part of the interview, Zampella essentially book-ended the post-launch content for Titanfall 2. In case you didn’t know, the latest content update for the shooter brought in the Frontier Defense game mode, along with a bunch of new character skins, maps, balance tweaks and more.

GameSpot: So with Frontier Defense out the door, can we expect to see more Titanfall 2 content like this after the release of the Ultimate Edition?

VZ: Probably not. We want to work on new stuff.

Regardless whether we get new Titanfall 2 DLC or not, it’s been one heck of a ride. Let’s hope that Respawn’s regular (and free!) content updates will be part of other shooters’ post-launch plans moving forward.

Are you expecting Titanfall 3 to happen soon? Do you think it will sell better than TF2 if it’s given its own proper release window?

Injustice 2 – June Update Introduces Numerous Fixes And Adds Red Hood To The Game

For those who are patiently awaiting on the arrival of  Red Hood, the first of three characters set to be released with the first fighter pack for NetherRealm Studio’s Injustice 2 game. It seems that the highly anticipated character is releasing much sooner than later.

As thanks to the recent v1.04 patch to go live recently for Injustice 2, it seems that Red Hood has quietly made his way onto the game. Unfortunately, those who’ve manage to download the update aren’t able to actually play as him despite showing up in the character select screen and the customize character portion of the game.

However, this does mean that Red Hood is very close to being made available to public despite NetherRealm not releasing an exact date aside from the previously announce June release date.

Aside from this, it also seems that the silhouettes of the other unknown DLC characters have accidentally made its way onto the game. Although, it appears that they were quickly removed from the character select screen.

You can check out the image below to see the removed silhouettes of the other DLC characters, courtesy of TYM:

From the looks of it, it appears that the silhouette for the character on top right corner may belong to Atom judging from his size. If so, it looks like he joins both Black Manta and Raiden as future DLC characters that haven’t been officially announced.

Battlefield 1 – May Update Now Live, Patch Notes Inside

With DICE now undergoing a new monthly update system for Battlefield 1, it was only matter of time before they released the May update with said month coming to a close relatively soon.

Which thankfully as of this writing, the Battlefield 1 playerbase who have been patiently for the latest update to arrive for the WWI shooter won’t have to wait any longer.  As the next time you boot up the WWI shooter, you’ll be greeted with an update prompt for the May patch that brings with it numerous changes such as a nerf to the Bayonet Charge and more.

In which you can read the patch notes below to see what new changes go live once you finish downloading the patch:

May Update Patch Notes

Operations:

  • First of many adjustments were made to help mitigate getting matched into a empty server. Including switching sides after an Operation ends instead of exiting out of the game mode.

Maps and Game Modes:

  • Fixed a Spectator Mode bug where the first-person camera could become stuck during the Pigeon Carrier Artillery camera sequence on the Assault Tank.
  • Changed ticket count for Domination to 200 from 100.
  • Fixed missing game mode description for Operations.
  • Tweaked scoring values for capturing flags in Conquest. Capturing gives less score now, however more capture ticks have been added and the team controlling more than 3 flags than the other team will be awarded Conquest Control bonuses.
  • Decreased the percentage of contribution to flag capture/neutralize from 50% to 30%.
  • Added “Join Any Operation” button to main Operations screen. Will start a matchmaking session to join any available operation at any size (40 or 64).
  • Spectator camera no longer missing from the map on Frontlines, Verdun, and Soissons.

Vehicles:

  • Tweaked self-repair for A7V, FT17, St. Chamond, and Pierce Arrow.
  • Reduced health gained per self-repair cycle from 320 to 200.
  • Reduced time taken to complete a self-repair cycle from 8s to 5s.
  • o   This makes these vehicles’ self-repair equivalent to the self-repair of the MkV Landship.
  • Doubled the health of Field Gun and Stationary AA. Made Field Gun and Stationary AA repairable. Field Gun and Stationary AA will now enter a disabled state at 50% health where they become unusable. To use the weapons again they must be repaired back to 100% with the repair tool.
  • Increased time that the shell camera is active on the MkV mortar landship from 3.5s to 4.5s. This better suits the increased flight time of the new heavy shell.
  • Changed how max range for AA is applied. Max range now varies depending on the pitch of the gun. Shells can travel a maximum horizontal distance of 300m, and a maximum vertical distance of 450m. This applies to both the stationary AA and the AA truck.
  • Extended Fighter and Attack Plane elevator flap scaling curves to better cover the entire speed range.
  • Reduced cooldown of speed boost ability from 30s to 15s for both the Dogfighter and Airship Buster Attack Plane.
  • Set up rear view on all planes: Albatros, Fokker, Spad, Sopwith, Rumpler, Halberstadt, Salmson, Bristol, Gotha, Caproni. To activate: Hold freelook while in third person to use rear view.

Attack Plane Changes:

  • Retuned attack plane elevator flap scaling curve. Attack Plane turning will now be much closer to that of Fighters, but still slightly worse.

Improved Underused Attack Plane Variants:

  • Increased damage of the Airship Buster variant’s primary MG from 32 to 40. This puts its AA DPS on par with Fighter MGs.
  • With its speed boost active, the new flap scaling curves will allow this variant to achieve a higher turn rate than the Fighter for a short time. The reduced cooldown on speed boost will allow this advantage to be used more often.
  • Together these changes should make the Airship Buster more competitive with Fighters in its air to air role.
  • Increased velocity of tank hunter 37mm from 222m/s to 267m/s and reduced drag from 0.005 to 0.003. These changes should make the 37mm slightly easier to land hits with, especially against moving or distant targets.

Dogfighter Fighter Plane Variant:

  • Added new secondary weapon, Incendiary Ammo. Incendiary Ammo does greatly increased damage to plane parts, allowing the dogfighter to quickly cripple an enemy plane by breaking a wing.
  • Changed active ability from emergency repair to speed boost.

Bomber Killer Fighter Plane Variant:

  • Changed active ability from speed boost to emergency repair.

FT Package Changes:

  • Close Support Tank – Increased 37mm HE ammo from 4 to 5.
  • Close Support Tank – Replaced Secondary Case shell with Coaxial LMG. These changes should help this tank better fulfill its general purpose role.
  • Flanker Tank – Increased reload time on the autocannon from 2.5s to 3.75s.
  • Flanker Tank – Increased HE autocannon direct damage from 15-10.5 to 17.5-12.5
  • Flanker Tank – This results in a 20% reduction in cannon uptime. The direct damage increase will offset the lower uptime against vehicles when targeting vehicles. These changes should make the Flanker slightly less effective against infantry.
  • Howitzer Tank – Corrected primary weapon to HMG as shown in customization, this was actually LMG. The more powerful HMG should help offset its limited firing arc when compared to the Coaxial LMG of the Close Support Variant.
  • Howitzer Tank – Changed driver secondary weapon from case shell to flamethrower on the A7V Flame Tank Variant. This change will reinforce this variant’s role as a close range tank.
  • Howitzer Tank – Added third person freelook to the FT Howitzer Variant. Missed this one with the other tanks because the normal version has a turret that can rotate 360 anyway.

Miscellaneous:

  • Added rear firing Tankgewehr as driver secondary weapon for the Tank Hunter Landship Variant.
  • Enabled driving and third person camera while using driver rear guns in the Squad Support and Tank Hunter Landships.
  • Improved MkV Mortar Landship Variant Changed secondary mortar shell from airburst mortar to heavy mortar. Heavy mortar does much more damage and is effective against both infantry and vehicles, but has a much longer reload.
  • Replaced alternate smoke and gas mortar shells with track repair and vehicle smoke equipment. These changes should make the mortar Landship more viable as a combat vehicle, rather than sitting in mortar stance in the backline.
  • Fixed a bug with third person aiming on vehicles that caused a bullet to not fire in the correct direction when aiming at a soldiers head while they are on a horse.

Weapons And Gadgets:

  • Bayonet Charge – Activated aiming speed modifier during prepare state as well as charge state. This means a player can rotate a maximum of 50 degrees during the prepare state. Also added an input modifier disabling strafe while charging.
  • Bayonet Charge – Adding subtle boost to third person footsteps when bayonet charging to increase threat awareness. Boosted volume of Enemy VO for Bayonet Charge when close to player.
  • Bayonet Charge – Slightly reduced maximum turn rate while charging.
  • Bayonet Charge – Removed damage reduction while in charge. Weapons will now hit charging players for normal damage.
  • Fixed bug where Bipod Audio could persist when switching to secondary weapon.
  • Tweaked criteria for cross-class medal to require single shot rifles.
  • Added UI for grenade resupply.
  • Reduced the occluder size for the scope glint from 0.25m to 0.15m to hide it behind walls better.

Gameplay:

  • Added a camera shake advanced gameplay option to adjust the amount of camera shake caused by explosions, etc.
  • Added missing spotting animation when spotting a downed allied soldier as a medic with the Medical Syringe.
  • Automatically show low on ammo icons on friendly soldiers.

Controls:

  • Players using controllers can now do custom button/stick mappings.
  • Fixed “Select Operation” button not properly appearing when using the joypad or on console.

UI:

  • Moved ping widget to be below the kill log.
  • Fixed an issue in the squad select screen where no squad would be automatically selected for player not part of a squad. The first squad in the list will now be selected by default. Also added support on PC for pressing the space bar to join/leave a squad.
  • Fixed issue with the flag icons and world icons ghosting when going in and out of the customize screen from the deploy screen.
  • Added ability to disable UGC

Netcode:

  • Implemented per region threshold settings for server side hit detection: 130ms for US + Europe, 200ms elsewhere.
  • Fixed server side hit registration interpolation.
  • Leading shot only necessary by the margin above the threshold, e.g. For US @ 150ms ping, you have to lead by 20ms.
  • Fixed latency display for server which is also responsible for decision if to perform client or server side hit registration.
  • Fixed input offsets for server side hit registration to match client side.
  • Fixed wrong hit indicator display when dying.

Battlefield is available for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Titanfall 2 – Latest Trailer Gives A Small Taste Of The Monarch’s Reign Update

As we previously reported on where Titanfall 2 is set to receive frequent updates in the following months that included new maps, titans, executions and more for free. Is set to get another content drop relatively soon.

Which thanks to the recent trailer to go live for Respawn Entertainment’s FPS title, we get to see a glimpse of what’s to come once the upcoming update “Monarch’s Reign” goes live May 30th such as the new titan Monarch.

Check out the trailer above.

Aside from releasing the trailer, Respawn Entertainment has also given out details of what exactly to expect once this update hits this upcoming Tuesday. In which you can read the details below:

Monarch’s Reign Patch Notes

  • New Titan: Monarch – Monarch is a mid-range Vanguard-class Titan that can upgrade itself on the battlefield through her unique Upgrade Core. Pilots select a path of upgrades and try to survive long enough to reach her final form.
  • New Prime Titans – Ronin And Tone Prime
  • New Map: Relic – Set among the old wreck of the IMC carrier IMS Odyssey, Relic is a worksite where Pilots have created clever wall running routes by hanging pieces of the wreckage between buildings. The map consists of the wreck of the Odyssey in the center of the map that splits the two town areas.
  • Map Update: Crashsite – We worked on a collision pass for Crashsite, fixing around 100 instances of getting bumped, bonked, stuck or tripped up. During the clean-up, we also wanted to experiment with more mobility options. To that end we’ve added 8 ziplines to get around the map faster and a few more wallrunning locations.
  • New Execution –  Now You See Me [Cloak]
  • New Purchasable Store Content – Camos, Callsigns, Nose art

Additionally, to celebrate the release of a brand new titan. Titanfall 2 will turn on the double xp switch for all game modes.

TItanFall 2 is available for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Injustice 2 – Wonder Woman Movie Inspired Costume Arrives Next Week

It’s no secret that NetherRealm Studios loves to incorporate skins from the DCEU onto it’s Injustice games, as seen in both Superman and Zod receiving their Man Of Steel movie counterparts as costumes once the movie was released.

Which according to the latest news about Injustice 2, it seems NetherRealm Studios is once again following the same formula with their latest title. As very recently during Steve Aoki’s charity stream, it was revealed that the costume featured in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie that’s set to be released next week will indeed be heading to Injustice 2 to coincide with the movie release date.

How exactly can you earn the costume worn by Gal Gadot in the upcoming movie? According to the stream, it’s pretty simple as it’ll be available via an upcoming Mutliverse event that’s slated to arrive next week. However, for those who happen to miss out on the Multiverse event can still obtain the costume via random drops after the event ends.

For those who’ve been out of a loop as to what the costume looks like can get a first look of it in-game by viewing the image below:

With the inclusion of the Wonder Woman DCEU skin, hopefully this means much more costumes will be available in Injustice 2 in the near future.

Injustice 2 is available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
