Report: New EA Game Codenamed “Project C” for PS5 Listed on Amazon

It looks like a new EA game announcement could be incoming soon, as a game with the codename “Project C” for the PS5 has been spotted on Amazon (UK)! There is no boxart currently, and of course, the name is a placeholder until it’s officially announced.

The listing is here, but we’ve taken a screenshot just in case it gets taken down:

Of course, with EA Play Live set for tomorrow, chances are high that this mystery new EA game will be revealed there. Could this be the rumored Dead Space game that’s expected to be revealed tomorrow? While this new game might be announced tomorrow, there’s quite a number of EA-owned properties that are confirmed to not be making an appearance tomorrow.

EA is also announcing a new Battlefield 2042 mode for tomorrow, and the teasers that have been released has revealed Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s map Valparaiso! Apex Legend’s upcoming new season will also be revealed in full tomorrow, after yesteryday’s new Stories From the Outlands trailer.

EA Play Live will air tomorrow, July 22, at 10AM PT/1PM ET/1AM HKT, and will be hosted by WWE star Austin Creed!

Make sure to check back here on MP1st as we’ll be reporting on the news as it happens.

Thanks, Squwils!

New Battlefield 2042 Teaser Revealed, Here’s a Look at Each Blurred Image

Following yesterday’s teaser for the new game mode in Battlefield 2042, EA has once again released a new Battlefield 2042 teaser today! Same as before, this is a super short clip that features garbled images.

Here’s the short clip:

https://twitter.com/Battlefield/status/1417861935802896384

Given how yesterday’s teaser had a hidden Bad Company 2 Valparaiso map image, we suspect today’s teaser might have the same secrets hidden. This idea hasn’t slipped by Reddit user Rleez12 who screenshotted each one and uploaded them side by side.

VideoCapture_20210721-114742

At the time of this post’s publication, the images above haven’t been found to match a particular map or Battlefield game just yet, though we’re hoping that changes soon.

The wait for Battlefield 2042’s new mode reveal isn’t long now, as EA Play Live is set to air tomorrow, July 22! Speaking of which, here are the games that have been confirmed to NOT be appearing in EA’s show.

Pro Evolution Soccer Renamed eFootball, Now Free-to-Play

Looks like Konami is officially switching gears and changing the name of one of their long running sports game properties, as Pro Evolution Soccer or PES has been renamed as eFootball — and it is now a free-to-play game for users worldwide!

Check out the reveal trailer to this overhauled sports game franchise!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzd7OpCHCi0

As revealed by IGN, the newly christened eFootball will be a digital-only, free-to-play title that will be coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC this Autumn season — with iOS and Android users getting their own versions as well some time down the line. The announcement also mentioned that this uniformed change will mean cross-play is available in all platforms, however mobile device users will need a controller to hook up to their platform in order to play against PC and console users.

While it’s unclear what else the new overhauled game will offer, the free-to-play model will most likely include the usual micro transactions and season passes to give players options on enhancing their teams and experiences further in the game. You can check the roadmap below to get an idea of what’s coming as well.

Check out the trailer below and see what the Iki island expansion has to offer for the game!

If you’re wondering what Jin Sakai will be up to with the Iki island story, here’s the details from the official PlayStation blog.

Jin’s journey begins when he discovers that a mysterious Mongol tribe has gained a foothold on Iki. And in confronting a new and dangerous enemy, he will be forced to face old fears, and unearth deeply buried traumas. As you explore a new island and battle new threats, you’ll also delve into the dark past of clan Sakai…

King of Fighters 15 Adds Mexican Wrestler King of Dinosaurs to the Arena

Prepare to hit some heavy duty moves with a familiar grappling presence from SNK’s history, as King of Fighters 15 adds Mexican wrestler King of Dinosaurs to the arena — with some powerful new moves to showcase as well!

Here’s the new King of Fighters trailer that shows the heel persona of the luchador Tizoc in action.

Originally the eagle masked warrior known as Tizoc from Garou: Mark of the Wolves, the mysterious wrestler lost to a fighter called Nelson — which causes him to wallow in disgrace and humility. Not wanting to tarnish his reputation as a heroic wrestler, the pro-wrestling powerhouse adopts a new persona called King of Dinosaurs, and he made his first appearance in the previous KOF entry in King of Fighters 14. Now the SNK developers have brought this character back to the roster, and who knows what team he will be joining next as the reveals continue for KOF 15!

As fighters continue to be revealed slowly but surely, SNK is taking its time polishing the King of Fighters 15 for release in PC and consoles. The developers announced that the game would be delayed to next year due to the challenges brought on by the ongoing global pandemic, and you can read about that story here if you missed it.

BOUNTY STORE

We’re reopening the Bounty Store, with more updates to come in Patch 6. As we continue to expand the system towards that goal, we will be making certain changes. In the short term, there will be pricing changes in the updated version. To compensate for this, and in light of exploits from the previous implementation, we’re normalizing previous Bounty Coins such that players will have between ~100-1000 Bounty Coins when we reopen the store. For the vast majority of players, this will be an increase from their previous balance.

Skins that were owned previously will be maintained, but duplicates of each skin are being removed.

Bounty Skins will be priced at more Bounty Coins per skin moving forward, but we’ve multiplied the rewards from Daily Quests by 30, and are adding additional ways of earning Coins. Overall, we expect players to see more coins and value relative to previous iterations going forward. We intend to continue to tune these numbers moving forward to get into the right spot.

More Skins for Sale

  • In the new Bounty Store, each skin will still be on sale for the same three day window, but we will keep a rotating stock of 3 skins, staggered such that 1 skin will change each day.

Bounty Store Event Exclusive

  • In addition, players who purchase an Event or Crossover Pass will have access to another skin for the duration of the Event. This slot will only be available to players that have purchased the current Pass, though the skin itself may be available through other methods such as Chests or Direct Purchase. Please note that this slot remains consistent during the Pass and does not rotate out or have limited quantities.
  • Keep checking back with each new Event or Crossover Pass to see the new skin that becomes available!

Twitch Drops

  • Linking
    • First, make sure your account is linked to Twitch, so you can earn points for watching Paladins on approved streaming channels.
  • Viewing
    • Gain 5 Bounty Coins for every 4 hours of stream viewing.

Additional Coin Earning

  • Starting this patch, we’ve implemented a new feature where players will have the option of watching ads in-game to earn Gold, Bounty Coins, and other rewards. Now we know you probably have a few questions and we wanted to be upfront and clear about a few things:
    • These ads are completely optional. Players that would like to earn rewards via this new feature will need to click the new “Earn Free Rewards!” button on the home menu and opt in for an ad to start playing. If you don’t opt in, you’ll never see an ad and your Paladins experience will be the same as always. We will never add forced or unskippable ads to Paladins, ever.
    • Ads shown are of a quality and standard that you’d see on TV or other mainstream video service providers or streaming platforms. Nothing cheap or sketchy.
    • If you watch an ad, you will always receive a reward. Every ad watched will award 100 Gold and you can also earn other rewards like Bounty Coins and Boosters for watching multiple ads.

LIMITED TIME MODES

The gen:LOCK patch will feature 6 unique and 2 previously popular modes that rotate throughout the patch cycle. Each week there will be a different limited time mode available, from midnight Friday until 8am on Monday, EST. Here’s are some quick previews of what to expect next:

Pick Any

  • In celebration of Paladin’s 50th Champion, we’re letting you pick whichever Champion you want. Teammate already picked them? No problem! Play five Grohks if it makes you happy! Mo’ totems, no problems!

Hunter vs Hunter

  • Two gunslingers stand opposite each other. In the blink of an eye, two guns are drawn. When the dust settles, only one of the former comrades in arms will be left standing. Will it be The Hand Or Justice? Or will it be The Godslayer? You decide in this guns-blazing gamemode.

GENERAL UPDATES

Dev Commentary: Obviously, by the time there’s a disconnected player in a match, something has already gone wrong. Nobody wants that. But we’ve made some changes this patch to try and reduce the frustration for when it does happen.

Bots will no longer purchase items for disconnected players
Outside of training matches, bots will no longer purchase items. No more coming back to the game and having two ranks in an item you never would have bought.

Scoreboard – “Disconnected” Indicator
Allies will now see the disconnected status for their teammates on the scoreboard while they’re away.

Legacy VGS
PC players can opt into “Legacy (Deprecated)” VGS, including VGS lines that were removed with the VGS re-work. These lines will be displayed to players on all platforms with the PC key combination.

Skin Previewing
We’ve added the ability to preview the full model of a skin in the pre-match lobby, so you can make informed decisions on whether to shell out your hard-earned crystals on them!

RANKED UPDATES

3 Ranked Bans
We’ve added an additional Champion ban for ranked matches.

SPLIT 2

Split Rewards

  • Play 15 Ranked matches
    • Gold Chest
  • Play 25 Ranked matches
    • Determined, Avatar

Ranked Map Rotation
The previous map rotation was updated in Patch 4, and we plan to keep it in effect for the duration of Split 2.

BALANCE

Dev Commentary: Talents are one of multiple ways in Paladins to customize your gameplay experience. Some talents weren’t providing enough to the overall playstyle of their Champion or were underutilized, less liked, or all of the above. These talent reworks are meant to be a fresh take on their Champions’ playstyles, a targeted change to specific playstyles that we feel were unhealthy for the game, and in some cases both. We know that there were at least some players who enjoyed the previous version of things we changed, and we plan on listening to player feedback and working with the community to embrace the potential of what we intend as new, fun aspects of these changes.

Talent Reworks

Jenos

  • Luminary
    • Old: Allies affected by your Astral Mark deal 10% increased weapon damage.
    • New: All allies already affected by Astral Mark are Healed for an additional 250 when you use Astral Mark.

Dev Commentary: Luminary has been a contentious topic, especially when it comes to damage amplification in general. With this change, we hope that it both alleviates some of the problems that can come from directly augmenting others’ damage while providing a new way to feel more effective as a Jenos focused on keeping your team alive.

Furia

  • Solar Blessing
    • Old: When Pyre Strike comes in contact with an ally it will stop and Heal anyone in its beam for 150 every 0.05s. Also reduces the speed of Pyre Strike by 30%.
    • New: Refiring Pyre Strike stops it in place. Any ally in its beam is Healed for 100 every 0.05s.

Dev Commentary: Solar Blessing has been a hot topic for some time now. This change puts a lot more control in the hands of Furia players and subsequently aims to make playing Solar Blessing feel much more satisfying. With the increase in control, we will be watching to see how this talent performs, as it will be more confirmable under ideal circumstances.

Kinessa

  • Eagle Eye
    • Old: Increase the damage done by Headshots by an additional 25% of base for a total of 175% damage.
    • New: Sniper Rifle gains increased Fire and Charge Rate at the cost of reduced damage per shot, and while scoped gains increased maneuverability.

Dev Commentary: It can be frustrating to take a large amount of damage from a character at long distances, and snipers like Kinessa are no exception. This change is meant to provide a different take on the traditionally long-range champion that offers a less-punishing option for difficult shots while maintaining the flavor that Kinessa brings to the game.

Atlas

  • Unstable Fissure
    • Old: Activating Second Chance leaves behind an unstable fissure that explodes after 3s, dealing 1,000 damage.
    • New: Activating Second Chance also Rewinds enemies within 40 units.

Dev Commentary: Unstable Fissure was a talent that was rarely utilized and—outside of specific, narrow circumstances—often felt underwhelming. This change is meant to provide an additional use of the Rewind mechanic that requires Atlas to be pretty close to his targets. We hope this will facilitate some new and interesting plays.

Fernando

  • Formidable
    • Old: Heal for 55% of your maximum Health over 3s when you fall to or below 40% of your maximum Health. This can occur once every 45s.
    • New: You now have 2 charges of Charge, each Charge deals an additional 100 damage, and you are CC immune while Charging, but the Cooldown of Charge is increased to 13s.
  • Aegis
    • Old: Your Shield has an infinite duration and its Cooldown is reduced by 4s.
    • New: Your Shield now uses a resource that Regenerates over time instead of using a Cooldown.

Dev Commentary: Again, some talents have felt underwhelming, underused, or unhealthy for the game overall. Large procs on a large Cooldown can feel impactful in the short term, but generally don’t give a sense you as a player are getting the value you might expect from a talent. This change to Formidable is meant to provide some additional utility in the form of Crowd Control immunity and an additional usage of Charge that allows Fernando to have more tools in his kit to deal with a variety of situations. Aegis, meanwhile, served as a stable shield build, but in the interest of providing a variety of unique and effective gameplay experiences, we are giving him an new opportunity to use his Shield in a different way, with more control over when and for how long he is able to Shield his allies.

Barik

  • Architectonics
    • Old: Increase the damage of your Turrets by 20% and reduce their Cooldown by 2s.
    • New: Dome Shield now costs 35% Ultimate charge and places a Flamethrower Turret with modified values and no Shield. Can have two active at once.
      • New name: Forgefire

Dev Commentary: Another example of a talent that was liked by some, but ultimately could make room for a new, unique gameplay experience. This change gives Barik EVEN MORE turrets and provides a different use of his Ultimate.

Items

Cauterize

  • Current: Your Weapon shots reduce the effect of healing on your target by {25|50|75}% for 1.5s.
    • Increased scaling {25|50|75}% → {30|55|80}%

Dev Commentary: Cauterize is a larger conversation that needs to happen over a larger period of time. We feel that having one or a very few items or mechanics that are REQUIRED or are extremely important linchpins for any balance or change proposed for Paladins is generally an unhealthy idea, and should be addressed. That being said, the current change should help alleviate some of the concerns the community has brought to us by increasing the scaling of Cauterize.

Wrecker

  • Current: Your weapon attacks deal {25|50|75}% increased Damage to Shields.
    • Increased scaling {25|50|75}% → {30|60|90}%

Dev Commentary: By Increasing the scaling of Wrecker, we’re hoping to encourage its use in the circumstances where it is most effective, especially in light of the new blue item, Guardian.

Bulldozer

  • Current: Your weapon shots deal +{20|40|60}% Damage to Deployables, Pets, and Illusions.
    • Increased scaling {20|40|60}% → {25|50|75}%

Dev Commentary: Similar to Wrecker, we’re seeing an increase in scaling to improve its general effectiveness and encourage a variety of choices in itemization in any given match.

Resilience

  • Current: Reduce the duration and effectiveness of Crowd Control and Slows by {20|40|60}%.
    • Increased scaling {20|40|60}% → {25|50|75}%

Dev Commentary: While Crowd Control is an important part of our and other games, it can also be frustrating to deal with. We are trying to strike the right balance between ensuring that Crowd Control is a viable set of mechanics that feel good to use but at the same time providing players with the tools to combat Crowd Control when it’s most impacting their match.

Rejuvenate

  • Current: Receive {5|10|15}% more healing from other players.
    • Increased scaling {5|10|15}% → {6|12|18}%

Dev Commentary: With the increase in Cauterize scaling and the increased effectiveness of other items, we felt it was appropriate to also slightly increase the scaling of Rejuvenate for the players who invest in it.

Haven

  • Current: Reduce the Damage you take from Direct attacks by {7|14|21}%.
    • New: Reduce the Damage you take from Direct and Area of Effect attacks by {6|12|18}%.

Blast Shields

  • Blast Shields has been removed from the game

Dev Commentary: With the integration of Blast Shields into Haven and the addition of Guardian and the new Veteran, we are introducing a larger variety of viable options for item picks in any given match. This change is also intended to give greater clarity regarding which abilities are being protected against, such as when an ability deals direct damage to multiple targets vs a single hit that deals damage in an area, etc.

New Item: Guardian

  • Blue (Defense) Item
  • New: Increase the effectiveness of Shields you create by {7|14|21}%.
    • This does not affect card- or passive-generated Shields.
  • Cost: 300

Dev Commentary: Guardian offers a new potential to enhance created shields, providing an option for players who want to further increase their survival ability in a different way. We look forward to seeing feedback regarding items in general providing new viable options in match and this item in particular.

Veteran

  • Current: Heal for an additional {5|10|15}% of your max Health every second when out of combat.
  • New: Increase your base maximum Health by {4|8|12}%.
    • Increased cost 150 → 250

Dev Commentary: Veteran was previously an item that was extremely underutilized. Without modifying the duration of combat (which would negatively affect veteran players implicit game-sense) and combat engagements, but still wanting Veteran to be of use to a greater number of players, we feel that this new Veteran provides a better way to increase survivability.

Champions

Atlas

  • Temporal Divide
    • Current: Greatly increase the size of Stasis Field, but its Cooldown is increased by 50%.
      • Increased Stasis Field Cooldown 50% → 65%

Dev Commentary: In light of concerns that the frequency with which Atlas used his large wall was slightly too strong, we’re toning this down just a bit.

Barik

      • <liTinkerin

      • Current: Modify your Blunderbuss to fire a single slug that deals 510 damage.
        • Increased damage 510 → 535
      • Combat Repair
        • Current: Heal your Turret for {100|100} every 1s while you are standing near it.
          • Decreased scaling {100|100} → {90|90}
      • Forged Alloy
        • Current: Increase the Health of your Turret by {150|150}.
          • Decreased scaling {150|150} → {140|140}
      • One Man’s Scrap
        • Current: When a Turret is destroyed, reduce your active Cooldowns by {6|6}%.
          • Decreased scaling {6|6}% → {5|5}%

Dev Commentary: Barik is generally in a good spot, but could use a bit of love to his Tinkerin talent. With the introduction of Forgefire and his current situation, we are also seeing slight nerfs to some of his turret-centric cards.

Inara

    • Caretaker
      • Current: Heal for {20|20} every 1s while standing in Warder’s Field.
        • Increased scaling {20|20} → {22|22}%
    • Stone Bulwark
      • Current: Heal for {25|25} every 1s while Earthen Guard is active.
        • Increased scaling {25|25} → {28|28}
    • Earthen Guard
      • Current: Enter a defensive state. While in this state, reduce damage taken by your Deployables and you by 30% and increase Healing received by 30%. This effect lasts 5s.
        • Increased duration 5s → 5.3s
    • Impasse
      • Current: Deploy a rocky wall that grows from the ground. This wall has 5000 Health, lasts for 5s, and can be refired to cancel. Has a range of 80 units. Affected by Bulldozer.
        • Reduced Reduced Cooldown 15s → 14s

Dev Commentary: Inara has been a staple of the frontlines, but we feel that she can use a couple of minor buffs to bring her to a slightly better spot.

Makoa

  • Cannon
    • Current: Increased maximum damage falloff range 75 → 80
  • Dredge Anchor
    • Hitting Yagorath with Dredge Anchor will now apply a 1s Stun.

Dev Commentary: Makoa is extremely effective with and beyond his use of Dredge Anchor, but it seemed appropriate to give a little more forgiveness to Cannon’s damage falloff range. While Dredge Anchor is a powerful ability that provides a hugely impactful repositioning mechanic, previously it would be completely engaged (even the damage) when hitting Yagorath. Now, it will apply a 1s Stun to simulate the effect Makoa would have otherwise seen.

Terminus

  • Necromantic Might
    • Current: Reduce the damage required to generate a Calamity Blast charge by {120|120}.
      • Reduced scaling {120|120} → {100|100}
  • Devastation
    • Current: Heal for {60|60} for each enemy hit by Calamity Blast.
      • Now only affects Players, Pets, and Illusions
  • It Watches
    • Current: Generate {3|3}% Power Siphon charge for each enemy hit with Massacre Axe.
      • Now only affects Players, Pets, and Illusions.
  • Abomination
    • Current: Generate {2|2}% Power Siphon charge for each enemy hit with Calamity Blast.
      • Now only affects Players, Pets, and Illusions.

Dev Commentary: Terminus is a Champion who performs well at most levels, and part of that is due to inconsistent procs from cards. Now, most cards that have procced off of everything in the past (including Shields) will only proc when hitting Players, Pets, and Illusions. We are also seeing a small nerf to Necromantic Might, which we felt provided a bit too much value at every rank.

Torvald

  • Protection
    • Current: Project a shield onto an ally for a short duration that prevents up to 500 damage.
      • Increased Shield value 500 → 650
  • Increased Cooldown 6s → 9s
  • Nullify
    • Current: Focus your Gauntlet, silencing your target and dealing 800 damage over 2s.
      • Increased range 50 → 60
      • Reduced Cooldown 12s → 11s
  • Recharge
    • Current: Regenerate 2200 Shield over 1s.
      • Reduced Cooldown 14s → 12s
  • Gauntlet
    • Current: Fire bursts of magical energy from your Gauntlet every 0.25s, dealing 180 damage per shot.
      • Increased damage per shot 180 → 190
  • Hyper Beam
    • Current: Unleash the latent power of your Gauntlet to channel a massive wave of energy that deals 55 damage every 0.1s and pushes enemies back.
      • Increased damage per hit 55 → 60

Dev Commentary: We would like to invest the time and resources it would take to make significant, sweeping changes to Torvald, as we think he deserves it. Thanks, Grandpa! In the short term, however, we feel that he can use some love across the board.

Yagorath

  • Piercing Quills / Acceleration
    • Current: Fire Piercing Quills that deal 170 damage and explode in a small area.
      • Removed the increased damage taken by enemies hit with Piercing Quills after being affected by Caustic Spray
  • Primal Vision
    • Current: Pulse 5 times, briefly revealing nearby enemies to allies.
      • Reduced the interval between pulses by 10%
      • Reduced the overall duration of Primal Vision by 10%
      • Reduced the duration enemies are Revealed by 15%
  • Caustic Spray
    • Current: Spray acid from your Maw, dealing 36 damage every 0.1s. Hitting the ground leaves behind a pool of acid that lasts 4s.
      • Increased Range and Effective Range 90 → 105 units

Dev Commentary: Yagorath is a Champion of exceptions and unique experiences. These changes are meant to bring her more in line with how we see her as we investigate additional changes to combat players’ pain points.

Dredge

  • Mortal Skewer
    • Current: Heal for {80|80} for each enemy hit with Harpoon.
      • Reduced scaling {80|80} → {70|70}

Imani

  • Inferno Cannon
    • Current: Channel an Inferno Cannon that deals 110 damage every 0.09s over 3s in a 120-unit Piercing column of fire.
      • Reduced damage per hit 110 → 100
  • Frost Bomb
    • Current: Launch a Bomb that deals up to 800 damage within 35 units of detonation, dealing damage based on the duration of travel, and Rooting enemies hit for 1s.
      • Increased the minimum damage on detonation by 5%
      • Decreased the distance required for maximum damage by 10%

Dev Commentary: We generally feel that Imani is in a decent position, but wanted to shift a bit of power from Inferno Cannon into Frost Bomb. This aims to do so.

Tiberius

  • Vicious Assault
    • Current: Crouching Tigron now deals 900 damage in a 20-unit-radius area on landing.
      • Now grants an additional charge of Crouching Tigron
      • Reduced damage on landing 900 → 600
  • Combat Trance
    • Current: Channel your energy, increasing your Attack Speed and Movement Speed by 30% for 4s.
      • Reduced Attack Speed and Movement Speed increase 30% → 25%
  • Test of Strength
    • Current: Heal for {50|50} every 1s while Combat Trance is active.
      • Reduced scaling {50|50} → {45|45}

Dev Commentary: Tiberius is another Champion who has seen a lot of polarized discussion. We feel that there is room to bring his numbers down in a couple places and see a slight shift in functionality for his Vicious Assault talent, which is traditionally underused in comparison with his other talents.

Tyra

  • In the Fray
    • Current: Decrease your damage taken by {4|4}% for 3s after using Nade Launcher.
      • No longer stacks. Will now refresh.
      • Increased scaling {4|4}% → {5|5}%

Dev Commentary: Being able to stack this Damage brought moments of extreme toughness that we felt needed to change. We’ll continue to monitor Tyra and this card as time goes on.

Furia

  • Solar Blessing
    • Current: When Pyre Strike comes in contact with an ally it will stop and Heal anyone in its beam for 150 every 0.05s. Also reduces the speed of Pyre Strike by 30%.
      • As noted in the rework section, reduced Healing 150/0.05s → 100/0.05s
  • Light Forge
    • Current: Hitting Kindle Soul reduces the Cooldown of Pyre Strike by 5s. This effect can happen once every {20|-3}s.
      • NEW: Hitting Kindle Soul increases your Movement Speed by {scale=8|8}% for 0.6s.

Dev Commentary: The reduction in Healing for Solar Blessing still leaves a LOT of Healing potential per beam. The greater control afforded to Furia with this talent change should greatly benefit the Solar Blessing playstyle, and we’re going to keep a close eye on it. Furia, with the right loadouts, can currently send out a large number of Pyre Strikes with her various methods of resetting its Cooldown. We are not entirely happy with this, and we’re positioning Light Forge away from that Cooldown reset and more into a self-utility option for Furia players who want to better navigate the battlefield while Healing.

Grohk

  • Totemic Ward
    • Current: Gain a third charge of Healing Totem and increase their healing by 30%.
      • Reduced Healing increase 30% → 10%
  • Healing Totem
    • Current: Deploy a healing totem that restores 300 health every 1s to allies within its area.
      • Increased Cooldown 10s → 13s

Dev Commentary: We knew that Grohk would be in a pretty good spot for an update cycle after the simultaneous Cooldowns change we made last update. It’s time to bring him back down a bit. With Totemic Ward, it is even easier to have a very large uptime on his Healing Totems, so we felt it appropriate to bring down the bonus Healing per totem. With the Cooldown change, even at base Grohk has a pretty good uptime on Healing Totems. Grohk will still have increased Healing ability even with this Cooldown increase, but it should make it slightly less oppressive for the totem-haters out there.

Grover

  • Vine
    • Current: Launch a vine from your body and pull yourself to a targeted location or ally.
      • Can no longer target allies.

Dev Commentary: We’ve received a lot of feedback regarding Grover’s Vine and the frustrations players experience with Vining to an ally who runs in front of them and finding themselves still in the fray they meant to escape. Vine will no longer fire at allies, so it can be used to go where the Grover player wants to go in the match.

Seris

  • Rend Soul
    • Current: Detonate your Soul Orb stacks on enemies, dealing 60 damage and healing you for 8% of your maximum health per stack detonated.
      • Increased damage per detonation 60 → 80
      • Increased Cooldown 5s → 6s
  • Fade to Black
    • Current: Reduce the Cooldown of Shadow Travel by {0.8|0.8}s after activating Restore Soul.
      • Can now only happen once every 5s.

Dev Commentary: With the Seris Veil fix, it will feel like a nerf from current values (because it was too effective). Overall, Seris was a little too survivable. Fade to Black receiving an internal Cooldown means that Seris player won’t always have a near-instant escape up at all times, which should alleviate some of that frustration.

Ying

  • Resonance
    • Current: If an Illusion is killed or expires, it triggers a Shatter explosion, dealing 500 damage.
      • Increased the speed at which Illusions travel
      • Increased Explosion damage 500 → 550

Dev Commentary: Resonance is a playstyle that some players have fun with, which (even beyond this particular talent) is very valuable. However, it can be frustrating to not gain as much value as a Resonance player as one might expect. These changes should make Resonance more confirmable.

Koga

  • Submachine Guns
    • Current: Dual Submachine Guns that fire two rounds every 0.06s, each dealing 36 damage.
      • Increased damage per hit 36 → 38

Dev Commentary: We feel that Koga could use a bit of a bump on his main numbers.

Lex

  • Discovery
    • Current: Increase the damage you deal to your Retribution target by 30%.
      • Reduced damage increase 30% → 25%

Dev Commentary: Discovery has seen a pretty strong showing recently, so we’re bringing it down just a bit.

Maeve

  • Rogue’s Gambit
    • Current: Increase the damage done by Pounce by 10% and reset Pounce’s Cooldown after earning an Elimination.
      • Increased damage bonus 10% → 15%
      • NEW: Now also reduces the Cooldown of Pounce by 2s

Moji

  • Familiar Spray
    • Current: Rapidly spray magical energy, dealing 30 damage every 0.08s to enemies and apply Magic Marks.
      • Increased Range and Effective Range 50 → 55 units
  • Scamper
    • Current: Quickly Scamper forward.
      • Speed increased by 10%
  • Bon Appetit
    • Current: Transform a single victim into a delicious, helpless treat that you can eat, killing them instantly.
      • Your target has their Movement Speed decreased by 10%

Dev Commentary: Moji could use a bit of love, prompting a slight range increase in her Spray and a slight Movement Speed increase in her Scamper. Bon Appetit now also slightly slows her cookie-fied targets, making it that much easier to confirm that snack time munch.

Vatu

  • Ambush
    • Current: Teleport next to your target, dealing damage in an area on arrival. Can be refired on another enemy within 4s of teleporting.
      • Decreased the amount of time before Teleporting 0.4s → 0.3s

Dev Commentary: Vatu is in a pretty good state. He could probably use a bit of change over time, but in the short term, we’ve decided to address one of the frustrations we’ve heard and reduce the time between firing Ambush and Teleporting.

Vora

  • Obliteration
    • Current: Jump up and slash down, becoming Immune. On impact, deal 500 damage and apply Knockback. Consuming maximum Darkness deals increased damage and Slows.
      • Reduced the lockout time after using Obliteration 0.8s → 0.5s
  • Harbinger’s Wrath
    • Current: Hunt your enemies, increasing Movement Speed and reducing the damage you take. Select a nearby target to lock down, damaging or executing them if they are low health.
      • Reduced your Movement Speed bonus while this ability is active 80% → 60%
      • Increased the Ultimate energy cost of using this ability 30% → 50%

Dev Commentary: There are multiple aspects of Vora that would benefit from quality of life changes, and one of the biggest ones was a decrease in the lockout after Obliteration, which should make that ability feel more in line with how you expect it to be. We’ve also heard players’ frustration that Vora gets too much value for too little cost when using her Ultimate for a variety of reasons, so we have slightly nerfed the benefits she gains while it is active, and made it cost more to buy in to its use.

Aliens Fireteam Elite Preview Hands-On Impressions – Fire in the Hole!

As a fan of the franchise, I’m sure a good chunk of the community can agree that games built around the IP have been superbly lackluster. Well, that was until Alien: Isolation came out that many realized, if in the right hands, we could get a game that perfectly captures the essence of the Alien IP. For many, this is horror, which is why Isolation was such a fantastic game based that used its IP intelligently.

It embodied every horrific emotion felt from the very first Alien movie.

Now looking before that, a majority of Alien games haven’t exactly been that great, with Colonial Marines being the biggest stain on the franchise since the Resurrection movie. In fact, to this day it still has the lowest score for a review that I’ve given to any game on this site. Just the fact that I’m even mentioning it is enough to get my blood to start boiling.

I could go on for hours about everything that’s wrong with that mess of a game, and maybe I will one day, but today I want to focus on the newest game endeavor into the film IP — Aliens Fireteam Elite. So where does it fit into what fans want? Well, if Isolation was the embodiment of Alien (first movie) then no doubt, Aliens Fireteam Elite is exactly what you’d expect if someone made a game based on the sequel film, Aliens.

It’s Aliens, Not Alien

You know, it’s really hard for me to say which is better, Alien or Aliens, because the truth of it is, despite being directly tied to one another these films could not be anymore different.

For Alien, the plot was solely focused on a crew and their survival against an unknown, bloodthirsty monster that all seemed impossible to stop. It made space scary for generations to come, inspiring many other movies, and even game IPs such as Dead Space.

Aliens Fireteam Elite Preview Image 1

One of cinema’s most iconic, and goriest scenes

The film was the stuff of nightmares, created from the darkest thoughts and beautifully realized. It’s really hard to come by any monster film, or game and not see any kind of references to Alien. That’s how big of an impact it is today, and will forever be.

Alien Isolation capitalized on a lot of the good aspects of the film, solely focusing on a single monster and your survival against it. It’s why so many are demanding a sequel, because it feels as close to the original film than any other game before it.

Now with Aliens, the horror side of the franchise takes somewhat of a backseat, and instead opted to be more fast-paced, filled with action crammed in every moment that it could. Rather than follow a crew of people with little to no combat experience, Aliens presents itself as what would happen if a team of highly trained space marines were to suddenly face off against one of the universe’s apex predators.

Well, as it turns out killing a Xenomorph isn’t all that hard, but facing off against hundreds is.

What took Ripley a full hour of film time in the original took her seconds to do in the sequel.

Truth be told, this was a sequel that probably shouldn’t have worked, yet against all odds, it did. James Cameron took his (Ridley Scott) horror classic and turned it into a jammed packed action flick that still holds strong to this very day. Really think about that, how many movies, or video games can successfully be one thing and then suddenly be something entirely different, yet still manage to keep most of its fans happy? Not a lot, if any, do come to mind.

For me I loved every bit of Aliens. The action sequences kicked ass, the story and dialogue was fun, with all the characters feeling super relatable to the point that I was heartbroken to see some of them go. It’s such a fun flick.

You’re a bit more relaxed in the sequel, that is until shit hits the fan and suddenly people start dying left and right from an onslaught of relentless monsters.

This is what Aliens Fireteam Elite captures. It’s a game about playing with your friends, having a good time going around and doing what you do best, only to suddenly start getting your shit wrecked by an endless wave of Xenomorphs.

No Misspelling “AI”

You may not feel a dripping sensation of horror going down your spine in Aliens Fireteam Elite, but there is certainly something to replace it. Having played with a group of my close friends, who also are massive Alien fans, the one big constant smile putter that the game has is how AIs are handled, and how the game really pushes you from full offense, to defense in a matter of seconds.

Like foreign species invading an ant colony, so do the Xenomorphs send waves after waves of themselves in hopes of stopping you from your mission. It’s the hive mentality and it feels well captured.

Now I know some of you may already be saying this isn’t very “Alien”-like of the Xenomorphs, but if we have learned anything from the films it’s that there is a great level of intelligence that differs between all the types of Xenos.

Aliens taught us that when it comes to dealing with them right inside their own hives, they will stop at nothing to make sure you’re not the one left standing.

That’s what I like about Fireteam, because it makes sure that you’re always on constant alert. Even after we cleared up a massive wave of Xenos and had a moment to freely explore, the game made sure that the threat wasn’t over as new waves would spawn, wanting to keep pushing us deeper into the level.

There are a variety of different types of Xenos in Fireteam, which really makes the AI shine. The Soldier are the primary ones you’ll battle with, which are the ones that like to rush at you in numbers.

Then there’s the Warrior. This Xeno is all about brute force and getting right up close and personal. They’re loaded with armor, so taking one out isn’t quite as easy as the others. One could say they serve as a distraction to allow the normal soldier types to rush in and overwhelm you.

Spitters, as its name suggests, shoots out acid projectiles. They hurt a lot. You typically find these guys hanging back, but one thing we (my friends and I) did notice about them is that they also seem to like to hide behind cover to avoid being shot. If they do happen to be out in the open, then it’s likely they’re trying to get close enough so they can deal massive acid damage when you kill them, as they burst into a puddle of it.

Pouncers are the ones that like waiting for the players to come to them. On levels, their locations differ in each run, but you’ll usually find them hiding behind a corner or some sort of small cover. They’ll leap on you and begin hacking away at your health with the only way to knock them back is either by completing the QTE (quick-time event) or by having a teammate shoot them off.

The Elite Drone is the one players have to look out for the most. Unlike the others, these seem to randomly appear and at almost any moment. If you’re wanting a bit of Alien Isolation-type dread in the game, you will undoubtedly find it in the Elite Drone.

These fellas only come out whenever they really want to, and when they do it can be quite intimidating as they stand tall through crowds of Xenos.

Like Warriors, they, too, also like getting close for insane damage. However it’s unlikely you’ll see one stick around long enough to be killed as they’ll often retreat back to a nearby vent.

In one of our runs, we were so occupied with killing all the other Xenos that we had forgotten about the Elite Drone thinking we had already killed it. Our objective had been completed for that area, so we pressed on, only little did we know that the Elite Drone was still alive, stalking and waiting to strike us at the right time. It wasn’t until I was lagging a bit behind that I noticed something pop out of a vent and rushing towards me. It did get me spooked a bit, but I was more amazed by a moment like that happening.

There is another Xeno that I’ll talk about in another section, but do mind that we haven’t experienced the whole game and know that there are more Xeno types available.

Now it wouldn’t be Aliens if it didn’t have some sort of involvement from the super mega corporation, Weyland-Yutani, and it does. The final known enemy types  from our preview are the Synthetics, and like the Xenomorphs, they also come in a number of different varieties.

Seeing that they’re based on humanity, the Synths are essentially human types of enemies. They come in loaded with guns, turrets, and all types of different weaponry, and unlike the Xenos, do appear to have some strategic planning during combat.

They will purposely send in working joes (yes the very ones from Isolation) in order to flush you out of cover so that they can unleash a barrage of fire power on you. They really hurt, even on the lowest difficulty you may find yourself having a hard time dealing with them.

Overall, I do like how the AI is handled in Aliens Fireteam Elite. It might not be the most advanced there is out there, but for the kind of game it’s trying to be it does a lot to keep you on your toes. The AI genuinely feels like it wants to do everything in its power to kill you, and will try to throw you off by flanking you, or creating diversions so that it can create an opening to get close.

We wanted to take things slow and easy because we always love exploring levels, but even then we still found ourselves being pressed against a wall and fending for our lives. Upping the difficulty is definitely another beast as friendly fire gets turned on as do other modifiers.

There were other difficulties that were locked in the build, but if fans are looking for a challenge, trust me, it’s going to be there at release.

The only complaints I do have with the AI is the bot companions are dumb as shit. I’m not surprised by that, and if anything have grown used to having bad AI companions in co-op games.

Heck, even the developers recommended not to use them when playing on the higher difficulties, and it makes a ton of sense why as they will purposely stand in place, get in your line of fire or if you go down, will ignore everything just to try and revive you. It’s laughably bad, but they get the job done in the casual mode for those wondering.

The big issue I did have when playing with bots is how field resources are allocated. When you play as a full squad of real people, every crate (boxes of resources found in level) has a defensive item that everyone can pick up. Example, a turret. If you have three people then you have three turrets, one for each player, but no more than that.

If you are playing with AIs they don’t bother picking these up, probably because they aren’t programmed to and would pick bad location. Sadly, that doesn’t mean an increase to the number of turrets you can pick up. You are just stuck with the one. I think it would have been nice if they made crate equipment similar to their health kits. Everyone can see it, and the amount that is available is all shared. So if there are only two health kits, then that is it. One user can hog them for themselves by using one and then picking up the other, a jerk move if I saw one, but at least the option is there.

I only bring that up because if you plan on playing solo, you may find the big end level battles to be a bit too much. If the AIs aren’t helping, some additional defensive measures would be nice.

Lets Kill Some Bugs

That’s the AI stuff out of the way, I guess you’re wondering how the game actually plays? To my honest-to-goodness surprise, it felt great.

When I first saw Aliens Fireteam Elite I was a bit worried about the third-person perspective. All the past Aliens games have had the marines being played from first-person, so naturally it was assumed that would be the case here. It wasn’t the case, though it’s not a complete deal-breaker.

While it would helped with the immersion level, I found the third-person combat to be very enjoyable. Character movement didn’t come off as janky as I expected it to be, with the controls feeling very responsive.

And this isn’t just a game about pointing your gun and shooting, as it also features a tactical roll that doesn’t feel weak, along with a Gears of War-style cover system. This system wasn’t all that effective against a hoard of Xenos, but it did really shine during combat against the Synthetics. We used it a ton, because as mentioned they tend to play in a more strategic manner.

As for the gunplay, I’m sure fans are going to love how all the iconic weapons handle once they start unloading clips into Xenos. I honestly can’t say I disliked the overall feeling. Now there were some guns I didn’t like, but that’s all subjective.

There isn’t a whole lot I feel I can really say about the overall gameplay, outside that your probably going to have fun with it. I know I did, and that to me, is what matters the most.

Staying Frosty

Having played through two out of the four available campaign missions, you’re probably wondering how long Aliens Fireteam Elite is going to be? Based on the completion of the full two available campaigns in the preview, it should take you somewhere between 6-8 hours. Pretty modest for a $40 game, but that’s only factoring in the fact that we were able to clear each campaign in roughly two hours. As of writing this preview I have about 10 hours, based on just the four hours it really took us to complete those missions. Why? Well because there are a lot of reasons to want to go back and replay these missions.

One of the exciting components of Fireteam Elite is that it features Challenge Cards. Challenge Cards, as the name suggests, are essentially additional challenges that players can select before the start of a mission. They typically reward you with more EXP and currency, but the big draw to them is how unique they all feel. While there are some that do aid you, such as bonus damage, a majority of them are accompanied with some insane conditions.

Take the Warrior Xenomorphs for example. They’re taller, stronger, and far more deadly than your average Drone Xenomorph. In missions, the game will throw them at you during the more battle heated moments, when there are swarms of drones rushing you. They can be very devastating if left unchecked, so usually you and your team will want to dispatch them as quickly as possible.

There is a Challenge Card that instead of spawning a Warrior, it spawns a Praetorian Xenomorph, which for those who don’t know, are the Xenomorph Queen’s royal guard. In-game, they’re massive and come heavily stacked with health and armor. They’re not easy to take down at all, and playing on insane or higher you are going to find them to be a force to be reckoned with.

Other challenges include taking no damage, being able to use only the last resort pistol, no motion tracker, and so much more. While levels, for the most, remain the same, these challenges truly felt fun, with us wanting to go back and replay all the levels with the different stipulations. There is a ton of replayability in this system, though I will say my only disappointment is that we weren’t able to stack cards for added difficulty. Hopefully that will be in the full release, or a future update.

Then there are the different classes. In our preview, we were given pretty much unlimited access to four out of the five classes. Like many other titles, these classes followed the standard archetype, with the Gunner being an all-rounder, Demolisher being the heavy with the Smart Gun, Doc the medic, and finally the Technician, whose focus was using traps and turrets. The fifth class, which was unavailable, is the Recon class who specializes in snipers and has the ability to call in ammo and boost team accuracy.

The demolisher has some pretty awesome kit abilities as the class can shoot rockets, along with a small AOE (area of effect_ blast wave to damage and knock back enemies. Not only that, but the class also gets to use the iconic Smart Gun, and even a flamethrower (not exclusive to the class). For me, this was by far my favorite class to use as it proved to be a quick bug killer.

The Doc obviously focused on healing. I found myself playing this role a lot, as it’s easily the most important when it comes to playing on higher difficulties. You’re able to lay down a small healing pool that you and your teammates can step into to heal, and while the game does give you a healing item at major checkpoints, it’s the long moments in-between that are going to get pretty sweaty with health. This is basically an essential class that every fireteam needs to be running.

Now with the Gunner and Technician I do think these are the weakest classes as they feel they may need some buffs. Gunner has an overclock ability that boosts weapon damage and fire rate for you and the team, but it only lasts a few seconds. It feels like a bad trade-off because the cool-down rate is 30 seconds long. There are some perks that can be equipped to extend the duration and lower the cool-down, but even then the base rates just don’t feel too beneficial for the team. A little tuning there could go a long way.

The Technician gets to use electric traps and a smart turret. This turret differs from the ones you get in crates as it lasts way longer and perks can be paired up to increase its damage. Additionally, you could swap out the turret for a heavier damage one, or one with incendiary rounds.

However, the gun types that are assigned to the Technician are extremely low in ammo, and chances are you’ll run out of ammo before anyone else does. It’s not a very fun feeling having to use the last resort pistol, which I wish could be upgraded to be stronger. I’ll admit it can be a pretty OP’d class once you start unlocking the extra perks, but it’s definitely one of the classes you need to invest more in to see the benefits.

All these classes have their own progression levels, which unlocks new perks along with expanding the loadout grid. The nice thing about some of the perks is that not all of them are class specific. You might need to play as a Medic in order to unlock a certain one, but chances are it can be used universally across all playable classes. It’s a nice way to get players to try other classes out in my opinion.

What I found most surprising is how perks are handled. Every class has their own grid that features a number of slots that perks can fit in. Think Tetris, where each perk is a different shape and can be rotated to fit a different part of the grid.

This allows all kinds of different set-ups, as perks offer a variety of benefits, not just to you, but to the team. Example, the Gunner has their overclock ability that boosts fire rates and damage. I mentioned earlier that it did need an increase in its duration, and I still believe that, but there are perks that do just that.

The same idea also applies to the other classes, like Medic getting enhanced healing, or Demolisher adding damage bonus to knocked back enemies. There is a great deal of synergy between every class and available perks, and I’m sure the player base is going to find crazier combinations than what we did.

That same concept follows even in the weapons, as they each have their own individual passive perks that get unlocked with each leveling. Attachments also exist, with three slots being customizable. These are the magazine, muzzle, and scopes, pretty standard stuff though there are bonus perks on each attachment, such as increased staggering, accuracy, damage, and more.

Closing Thoughts

Going into Aliens Fireteam Elite I had low — and I mean LOW — expectations because of how much fans have been burned with past tie-ins. Bad games, and bad movies, that is what us fans have been dealing with for the last few decades, so can you really blame me for going into this negatively?

But if it wasn’t obvious from the all praise above, then I will make it clear now: We f###ing loved it. I think Aliens Fireteam Elite might just be the game that all us Aliens fans have been lusting for since the disappointment of Colonial Marines. Again, I know Isolation was great, but that fits in line with the original film, whereas Aliens Fireteam Elite undoubtedly captures everything we loved about the sequel, Aliens.

Cold Iron Studios is exactly the kind of studio that knows exactly what the fans want, because they are the fans. If you’re worried this is some shameless cash grab, don’t. I promise you, come next month’s release you won’t be disappointed.

Black Desert Online Update 1.92 Brings Atoraxxio Quest Line – July 21

Pearl Abyss has released the Black Desert Online update 1.92 July 21 patch, and this is for the Atoraxxio quest line, quality of life changes and more! Obviously, the big thing with this is the new mission, which includes its own requirements! Head on below for the complete info.

Black Desert Online Update 1.92 Patch Notes:

● Atoraxxion – Vahmalkea, the Last Stronghold built to fend off the Dark Invaders, has been discovered.

– Added the Black Spirit main quest ‘[5-person Co-Op] The Last Stronghold, Atoraxxion’ to begin your expedition to Vahmalkea. The requirements are as follows:

– Level 57 or higher

– Completed the questline ‘Invitation from I’

– Completed either the awakening or succession questline.

※ The quest can be completed once per character.

– The “I’s Invitation” begins in Tarif, as Ahon Kirus has called for the Hero of Mediah to investigate a bizarre incident where magic users have lost their magic.

※The quest can be recieved by a character that is level 57 or higher, and can be completed once per family.

※The identity of I will be revealed in the Last Stronghold!

– Once you have knowledge of ‘Talibre’s Tear’ and ‘Talibre’s Door, which is acquired through the Atoraxxion main quest, you will be able to produce ‘Talibre’s Tear’ to enter Atoraxxion again.

– Knowledge related to Atoraxxion – Vahmalkea, have been added to the game.

– The quest ‘[Atoraxxion] Vaha’s Time Capsule,” which is the last quest in the main questline “[5-person Co-op] The Last Stronghold, Atoraxxion,” can only be completed once per family.

※If you wish to return to the Ancient Stone Chamber while in Atoraxxion, you can go to the first Sol Magia located at the entrance of Vaha’s Sky and interact with it and select “[Teleport] To the Ancient Stone Chamber.”

The Atoraxxion main questline requires five Adventurers to proceed as it is very difficult for a single Adventurer to complete on their own. Additionally, we have added voice-overs to all the major lines for the first time in Black Desert history to help our Adventurers get truly immersed into this content. We wish you good luck on your adventure with the adorable member of the Secret Guards – Yaz!

● Atoraxxion Vahmalkea is mostly open world zones. This means that Adventurers will be able to see and interact with other Adventurers that enter Atoraxxion on the same server. The final boss, ‘Apex Lucretia’, will be in an instanced zone. This will allow Adventurers to focus their efforts in defeating the boss together.
– In the open sections of Vahmalkea, you will see elite Ancient Weapons (marked with the star icon on the minimap). They are called: Cetus, Monoceros, Lacerta, Creomar, Putrakium. Each Elite has a particular weakness that will allow you to defeat them quickly. The field bosses Krahtenn and Ahtenn, that appear in these areas of Atoraxxion can be defeated using special tactics.

– The final boss “Apex Lucretia” is extremely powerful. It is absolutely crucial that you work together with your party to defeat it. You will not be able resurrect while the combat continues. When all the party members die, the fight will reset and the party will be able to try again.

– Death pentalties are applied when characters die in the normal fields. However, death pentalties will not apply when going up against the final boss “Apex Lucretia.”

The ultimate goal in Atoraxxion Vahmalkea is to enter and defeat the final boss. You will need to fight the regular Ancient Weapons to get items that act as keys to the next area. Progress through each of these areas to eventually reach “Vaha’s Cradle” when the final boss awaits our Adventurers.

● Atoraxxion Vahmalkea is divided into mutiple areas by the “Darkened Dawn,” a type of wall that fends off dark invaders more effectively.

– Each of these areas are blocked off from each other through an ancient piece of tech called “Sol Magia.” To take control of the “Sol Magia,” you will need special items that act as keys.

Area Required Keys How to Make
Vaha’s Sky
Vaha’s Storm
Vaha’s Heart Vaha’s Dried Fang Process Vaha’s Cold Thorn x10 through Simple Alchemy
Vaha’s Head Vaha’s Burning Fang Combine Vaha’s Dried Fang and Searing Heart Piece
Vaha’s Garden Vaha’s Twisted Fang Combine Vaha’s Burning Fang and Frozen Shell of Reason
Vaha’s Cradle Lucretia Dagger Combine Vaha’s Twisted Fang and Vaha’s Whispering Bell

– For the party to challenge the final boss “Apex Lucretia” in “Vaha’s Cradle,” all five party members much have a “Lucretia Dagger.”

※ All the loot obtained from Atoraxxion (except the item “Lucretia Dagger” and the loot dropped by the final boss “Apex Lucretia”) will be removed once you leave “Vaha’s Paradise,” which can be entered after defeating “Apex Lucretia.”

– The party leader must have the required key item and take control of the “Sol Magia” (except for the item “Lucretia Dagger”).

Area Materials How to Obtain
Vaha’s Sky Vaha’s Cold Thorn Defeat Ancient Weapons
Vaha’s Storm Vaha’s Cold Thorn Defeat Ancient Weapons
Vaha’s Heart Searing Heart Piece Defeat Krahtenn
Vaha’s Head Frozen Shell of Reason Defeat Ahtenn
Vaha’s Whispering Bell

※ Krahtenn appears at a set chance while Adventurers defeat regular Ancient Weapons in Vaha’s Heart.

※ The drop rate for each of the materials required are affected by item drop rate buffs.

● “Vaha’s Cold Thorn” is a currency in Atoraxxion Vahmalkea that is obtained from defeating Ancient Weapons. It can be used to exchange for various items at the Atoraxxion Exchange. Atoraxxion Exchanges are located in Vaha’s Sky and Vaha’s Heart.

Required Vaha’s Cold Thorn Items Effects
Vaha’s Cold Thorn x5 [Party] Vahmalkea: Emerging Star x1 HP Recovery Greatly Increased for 20 sec
Vaha’s Cold Thorn x5 [Party ] Vahmalkea: Rainbow Bridge x1 Movement Speed +30% for 20 sec
Vaha’s Cold Thorn x5 [Party] Vahmalkea: Captured Sunset x1 Monster Status Effects Resistance +100% for 20 sec
Vaha’s Cold Thorn x2 Vahmalkea Matchlock x1 Needed to defeat Putorium

※ The three types of party elixirs that can be exchanged for “Vaha’s Cold Thorn x5” can only be used in Vahmalkea. However, they cannot be used in Vaha’s Cradle where “Apex Lucretia” is located.

● Vaha’s Spear has been activated in Vaha’s Sky and Vaha’s Query of Atoraxxion Vahmalkea as dark invaders were detected.

Vaha’s Spear are trap devices that can be found in the earlier areas of Vahmalkea. Adventurers will need to keep their eyes peeled for this device while venturing through Atoraxxion Vahmalkea.

● The normal fields in Atoraxxion are different from other monster zones as in that you will not get loot from the regular Ancient Weapons. Only the final boss, Apex Lucretia, will reward Adventurers with loot. Once per week, after defeating Apex Lucretia, you will be able to obtain special loot in Vaha’s Paradise.

– The “special loot” can be obtained by completing the following quest with the “Vaha’s Time Capsule” that protects Vaha’s Paradise.

Quests Objectives Rewards
[Weekly] Vestige of a Moment Bestowed by Vaha Hand over Key of the Sunless Dawn x1
&
Lucretia’s Chipped Ruby
Vahmalkea: Aakmah Chest

– You cannot repeat the quest with a character that has already completed one of the above quest.

– The item “Key of the Sunless Dawn” required to complete the above quests is obtained from defeating the final boss of Vahmalkea “Apex Lucretia.”

– The items “Lucretia’s Imperfect Ruby” and “Lucretia’s Chipped Ruby” required to complete the above quests are obtained by completing the quest below.

– You will need 20,000 Agris Fever Points to accept the quest. The 20,000 Agris Fever Points will be consumed immediately when the quest is accepted. You cannot get the points back by forfeiting the quest.

NPC Name Quest Objectives
Vaha’s Garden – Sol Magia [Weekly] Lucretia’s Ruby Interact with Sol Magia

– The above quest is a weekly quest that can be accepted 7 days after it has been completed. You will receive Lucretia’s Imperfect Ruby x1 and Lucretia’s Chipped Ruby x1 as the quest rewards.

– The above quest is completed through the Sol Magia found in Vaha’s Garden (the area before Vaha’s Cradle, where the final boss “Lucretia” appears). You will not be able to complete this quest once you enter Vaha’s Cradle. If you did not complete this quest before entering, you will need to return to Vaha’s Garden again.

● Added Season-exclusive Atoraxxion for Season characters.

– Entering Atoraxxion in the Season server will lead to you to a separate dungeon for Season characters only.

– Season Atoraxxion is recommended for Adventurers who have DUO (II) Tuvala gear and above.

● Added special weekly quests for Season-only Atoraxxion.

※ The weekly quests can only be accepted and completed by Season characters of Lv. 57 and above.

– Requirements for Atoraxxion: Vahmalkea are as follows:

* Character must be Lv. 57 and above.

* Completed Black Spirit Main Quest “I’s Invitation”.

* Completed either Succession or Awakening.

During last year’s Calpheon Ball, we introduced Atoraxxion to our Adventurers for the first time. Now, we have finally brough this update to you! Black Desert provides a variety of party content like Savage Rift, Gyfin Rhasia Temple, Altar of Blood, and party monster zones for co-op play. Still, many of our Adventurers wanted more party content that was even more fun. Therefore, we decided last winter to create a brand new co-op dungeon. Something that is quiet different from all the other content we have released till now. We have contemplated for a long time on how to bring the intense Black Desert combat action with co-op play in a natural manner. We are deeply moved by this moment feeling, where at the end of our long deliberation, we are now able to present to you the results of our struggle. Thank you, Adventurers, for waiting and trusting us. We simply hope you will enjoy it. We will be back with our next biome with the underwater theme, “Sycrakea.”

FYI – “Atoraxxion” actually means “Ator’s Paradise” in the ancient language.

Season Server

● Improved the quest UI to now display the [Crossroads] window when choosing between Main or Simplified Questlines.

● With the addition of the Crossroads window to choose between the Main and Simplified questlines, you can no longer opt into the Simplified questline if you complete the Balenos Main Questline  ”The Sage of Velia”.
※ This condition applies to all season characters, including those who’ve gone through the Transferal process via “Fughar’s Timepiece”.

● Adventurers who fulfill the following conditions before the July 21st Maintenance will now automatically accept the ‘[Special Growth] Birth of a Prestigious Family’ quest after reconnecting to the game. (If you fulfill two of the conditions below, you will automatically accept the ‘[Special Growth] Birth of a Prestigious Family’

– Completed the ‘[Pet] Bareeds’ Junaid’ and ‘The Sage of Velia’ quests.

– Have not started or completed the ‘Embarking on an Adventure’ quest.

* If you wish to go through the original main questline instead of the ‘[Special Growth] Birth of a Prestigious Family’ questline, you can forfeit the quest and complete the ‘Embarking on an Adventure’ quest.

* Reconnecting to the game before you accept or complete the ‘Embarking on an Adventure’ quest will make you automatically accept ‘[Special Growth] Birth of a Prestigious Family’. You can forfeit this quest to begin the original main questline.

● Changed the following details when doing the simplified quest line on the Summer Season Server.

– Changed the simplified quest from ‘acceptable once per family’ to acceptable by any season character.

* This was changed after Adventurers gave us a lot of feedback about wanting to do simplified quests again after deleting or transferring a season character.

– Changed the Valencia main questline from “[Special Growth] Fughar’s Memorandum – Chapter 11” to “[Special Growth] Fughar’s Memorandum – Chapter 8.” This quest can be accepted once the character reached lv. 56.

– The simplified main quest line has changed from requiring the use of ‘Fughar’s Memorandum’ to all quests being delivered by the Black Spirit. We have therefore deleted any ‘Fughar’s Memorandum’ have been removed.

– Added more objectives to complete the simplified questline. Now you will need to talk to the Black Spirit after reaching certain levels to complete the quest. By talking to the Black Spirit, you will be able to fulfill certain main questline objectives depending on how far you have completed the simplified questline, as well as complete related Season Pass objectives.

– Fixed the issue where objectives on the Season Pass were not achieved when completing the simplified questline. Adventurers can now talk to the Black Spirit to complete the objectives of the Season Pass. This will also allow Adventurers to accept the questlines “Legendary Blacksmith” and “Mysterious Companion”.

– Increased the amount of Beginner Black Stone (Weapon/Armor) given as rewards for completing the simplified questline by double. This also applies to adventurers who have already completed the simplified questlines.

– Fixed the issue where certain social actions could not be obtained when progressing through the simplfied questline.

● Changed the simplified quest so that you do not get the reward “[Season] Secret Book of the Misty Breeze” when completing the simplified questline after changing the character to a normal character.

– The Item “[Season] Secret Book of the Misty Breeze” is a season character exclusive item. It cannot be used by normal characters.

● Fixed the issue where the item “PRI (I) Tuvala Awakening Weapon Box” could be obtained by completing the awakening questline on a normal character.

● Fixed the issue where only season characters who were Lv. 56 or higher could complete “[Season] Fughar’s Special Timepiece”

– The quest can now be completed by season characters from Lv. 25 or higher.

● Fixed the issue where quests that cannot be accepted by normal characters were still being displayed in the Quest Widget and the Quest list for the season character that was changed to a normal character by using the item “Fughar’s Timepiece.”

● Fixed the issue where the requirements listed in the Quest List for the quest “[Special Growth] Birth of a Prestigious Family” were different from the actual requirements.

● Changed the ‘[Season Weekly] Stronger Tuvala Gear’ list displayed in Quest List window> Recurring window to be displayed on the top when logged in with a season character.

● Changed the Black Spirit to show its different stages when going through the simplified questline like ytou would when going through the main questline.

● Fixed the issue where you could not complete parts of the Season Pass when the item “Fughar’s Timepiece” was used on a character that already completed the quests “[Boss] Red Nose: Engulfed in Darkness” and “[Boss] Giath, the Goblin Chief”.

– These portions of the Season Pass can now be completed by talking with the Black Spirit.

Content Changes

● The following land goods for bartering have been removed, and replaced with the new goods below:

Rough Green Crystal
Rough Blue Crystal
Rough Violet Crystal
Powder of Earth
Silver Azalea

Black Stone (Armor)
Lightweight Plume
Clear Liquid Reagent
Big Cloud Mushroom
Pink Trumpet Mushroom
Big Fortune Teller Mushroom
Wheat Dough
Trace of Forest
Cooking Honey
Cotton
Lion Hide
Cactus Thorn

● Changed the Barter system so that the Barter window will automatically reset if the contents of the Barter List are changed due to maintenance or some other factor.
– Whenever there is a change to Bartering related content (ie. Number of Sea Coins availble to Barter on Hakoven Island are adjusted), the information on the Barter window will reset.
– However, items that are currently in the middle of being bartered, will remain in the window until it is next refreshed.

For example, an item is listed to be bartered on Baremi Island up to 4 times. The item that could be bartered falls under the ‘Removed Barter Goods’ section of the patch notes.

If the item had not been exchanged (4/4 barters remaining) then it would be refreshed and a new offer would take its place.

If the item had been bartered even once (3/4 or lower barters remaining) then the barter would not be refreshed.

● Expanded the guild positions that can receive the Guild Master position when a Guild Master doesn’t log in for a prolonged period of time.

Before After
If the Guild Master doesn’t log in for 15 days, then the Guild Advisor and Guild Officer can receive the position. If the Guild Master doesn’t log in for 15 days, then the Guild Quartermaster, Cannoneer, and Members can receive the position.

– However, Apprentice Guild Members cannot receive the Guild Master position. The number of days required for the passing of the position resets when a Guild Master/Advisor/Officer logs in.

Item Changes

● Characters will no longer cheer when they obtain the Mass of Pure Magic.

● Unified the names and details of the ‘Secret Book’ items that open up succession on characters, and fixed various typos.

● Increased the chance to obtain the Saltwater Crocodile’s Scale when defeating Saltwater Crocodiles by 50%.

– Saltwater Crocodile’s Scale is used to craft the Violent Wave Plywood.

● You will now cheer when obtaining the following items from chests.

Horse Emblem: Dream Arduanatt
Horse Emblem: Dream Dine
Advice of Valks(+150)
Advice of Valks(+100)Energy of all Creations
Gold Bar Box
Sharp Alchemy Stone of Destruction
Resplendent Alchemy Stone of Destruction

● Changed the descriptions of the Succession Clasic Box, [Event] Succession Classic Box to list each of the outfits obtainable for each class in detail.

● Fughar’s Timepiece – Changed the item description to mention that Skill EXP acquired from combat, and not the total amount of Skill Points are transferred when using the item.

● [Season] Crow Merchants Guild Contribution Certificate I and II descriptions have been changed to now include that the items must be in the inventory of your season character, which will allow you to see and accept the quests.

Mount Changes

● Tier 8 and Dream Horse max mount levels have been extended to Lv. 100.

– However, the horse’s stats do not increase after Lv. 31 and above.

* Horse stats such as HP/Stamina/Max Weight Limit/Speed/Acceleration/Turn/Brake no longer increase and additional skills cannot be learned.

* But you will still be able to obtain Training EXP on level up.

– Horses that are Lv. 31 and above can be registered at the horse market like other horses but its price in the horse market/breeding market, Imperial Delivery as well as its sale price will be unaffected by it.

– Horses will no longer come under attack by monsters if its level is significantly higher than the monsters.

* This applies to all monsters on the field but does not apply to monsters that have appeared as an event.

Horse’s max level cap has been extended to 100. Horses cannot gain any increase in stats or learn new skills after a certain point but having a high enough level will stop monsters from attacking your mount. Given the time spent with horses, we hope that this update can bring more personal attachment to the mounts that you’re currently riding.

Monster Changes

● Changed the following monster zones so that the monster will not attack if the character and mount are 15 levels higher than the monsters.
– Field Monsters in Kamasylvia and Dreighan

● The second consequtive summon of the field boss Bheg when it has been defeated has ended after the July 21st maintenance.

Character Changes

● The 300 second wait time has been removed when switching between tagged characters.

● Improved Water collection/digging so that the character will not stop when they obtain a Sharp/Hard Black Crystal Shard.

We improved water collection and digging to no longer stop during certain situations (like obtaining a Sharp or Hard Black Crystal Shard). We would have liked to have this quality-of-life patch sooner, however; it was delayed due to certain parts that required further development on live servers. We would like to sincerely apologize for the delay. We will strive to make more quality-of-life updates for our Adventurers.Sage

Why Are Games Based on Mundane Tasks So Engrossing?

Most games stake us to places we’d never be able to go in real life. A post-apocalyptic wasteland, for example, or another planet. Others still allow us to experience places we may be able to visit in real life but in an entirely new light. Ghost of Tsushima transports us back in time, while Marvel’s Spider-Man puts a superhero spin on a well-known and iconic city. While each of these games is engaging because we can never truly replicate their setting, there are others that put us in a place some of us might find familiar.

Tomorrow, a game about flying across a vast open galaxy could release at the same time as a game about China post tracking. The one you choose to play would likely be based on two factors. The first is price, and the second is which one you think you’ll get the most time out of. If you’ve played No Man’s Sky, you’ve seen space and explored it before. But I don’t know any games about being a postal officer in China, so that game would be the one I’m most likely to choose. You can even judge the gameplay before playing. It’s obvious that the space exploration game will have a lot of open spaces and repetition. Still, the postal officer game will require you to think much more and pay attention to things like letter weights, addresses, and scanning the inside of anything that passes your way.

Papers, Please and Not Tonight are great examples of this. They put you in the shoes of characters with extremely mundane jobs. While the story might venture into places, you never could. The actual gameplay doesn’t. Instead, you find yourself stamping passports based on various regulations or working to keep a club as exciting as possible with just the right kind of clientele. Being a bouncer or a border control officer are jobs anyone could get in real life if they follow the correct path, so why are these games so engrossing?

I think that the key to these games is that they’re so grounded. As crazy as it sounds to say, traversing New York as Spider-Man gets old after a while. When you’ve seen every animation a few dozen times and know all the jokes he’s going to say as he travels, you sort of switch off. In Papers, Please, though, you can’t switch off. If you do, you might slip up and make a mistake, bringing you one step closer to being fired for negligence. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, it’s a petty punishment and nowhere serious as the deaths that Spider-Man suffers if you get the timing wrong in a fight. But still, these mundane games never lose that sense of urgency they all have to them.

While this may not be true for everyone, I certainly know that my tastes in games are dictated by what I think will be fresh and new. So even if that sounds boring on paper, I’m more likely to go for it because I know games like Papers, Please, and Not Tonight have kept me engaged for tens of hours.

Guilty Gear Strive New Fighter Goldlewis Dickinson and Season 1 Roadmap Revealed

Remember when we posted that Guilty Gear Strive datamine over a month ago that listed some of the characters appearing in Season1? It seems that was spot-on, as Arc System Works has revealed the Guilty Gear Strive new fighter, and it’s Goldlewis Dickinson, who is part of that datamined list!

Goldlewis Dickinson will be playable next week on July 27 for Season Pass holders, and available separately on July 30! Check out the trailer:

Today Arc System Works reveals the newest character to the cast of fighters in Guilty Gear™ -Strive-” Goldlewis Dickinson”. He has been named “The secretary of absolute defense”, wielding a giant coffin, massive size, and an “alleged“ collection of cryptids, he is a force to be reckoned with.

In addition to that, Arc System Works has also revealed the Guilty Gear Strive Season 1 roadmap!

As you can see, another fighter is set to drop in August! We’ll be sure to let our readers know who it is once we know (or if it leaks).

If you haven’t gotten the game yet, you might want to do so, as our review gave it a glowing 9/10, and said, “. The heart of the Guilty Gear franchise beats strongly in Strive, showing in it’s insanely fun gameplay, and lavishing visuals that puts this as one of the most well crafted fighters to date.”

Capcom Fixes Performance Issues of Resident Evil Village PC With New Update

Looks like a certain mod released by fans caught the attention of those behind the Resident Evil franchise, as Capcom fixes the performance issues of Resident Evil Village on PC with a new update that addresses the slowdown in the game caused by the company’s DRM technology.

Announced on the official RE Village website, Capcom has thanked fans and has stated that FidelityFX Super Resolution is now supported on the PC version of the game.

Update to Resident Evil Village on Steam

Thank you for playing Resident Evil Village. The following updates have been made to the Steam version of the game.

– FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), the most advanced upscaling technology offered by AMD, is now supported in Resident Evil Village. Players who use FSR will now be able to experience higher frame rates on PC for an improved gaming experience.
– Adjustments have been made to optimize the anti-piracy technology.

Because of noticeable slowdown and frame rate issues caused by DRM, the modding community discovered a way to fix the problem with the PC version of RE Village by subsequently releasing an unofficial crack that made the game much faster and performed better. This naturally caught the attention of Capcom, who have now worked on a patch that is supposed to fix the problem.

You can read our report about the crack here, and if you haven’t played RE Village check out our review on the game as well!

Final Fantasy XIV Automatic Logouts, Server Issues Due to Player Population Growth Explained

In case you didn’t know, Final Fantasy XIV has seen a major resurgence. Chalk it up to Square Enix’s fantastic support of the MMORPG or something else, one can’t deny that the game has been so popular that there have been automatic logouts, login wait times, and other issues associated with servers, and how it’s having a hard time dealing with the massive influx of new players.

Thankfully, Naoki Yoshida, game director of FFXVI, has addressed some of the issues. If you’re experiencing Final Fantasy XIV automatic logouts, and other sign-in problems, this might not solve it, but at least you’ll understand what’s happening.

Yoshida explained that the player population growth of FFXIV isn’t just in Japan, North America, and Europe, but the servers in Korea and Chinese servers have been hit hard too. Square Enix has experienced “record user numbers” in all regions, with new players beginning their FFIXV adventures. This is the problem that’s facing Square Enix now, since the increase in NA and EU region players over the past two weeks have been so staggering and unexpected that many players are experiencing difficulties logging in and creating new characters due to server congestion, which Yoshida apologies for.

As for the FFXIV automatic logout, here’s what Yoshida had to say:

As an emergency measure to combat congestion, we are also planning the early implementation of the auto-logout feature originally slated for the expansion launch. With the release of Patch 5.58, if no input is detected from a character for an extended period of time, the character will be automatically logged out of the game. This feature will be further expanded to address the surge in logins expected for the launch of Endwalker.

We understand that this feature will not be the most popular with our players, but would like to assure you that it is an effective means to temporarily combat congestion. We apologize for any inconvenience its implementation may cause, and thank you for bearing with us to ensure that the game remains accessible during this time.

While some might think that adding servers is super easy, Yoshida explains how the on-going COVID-19 pandemic has caused difficulties in doing this. Even so, there are more servers being added, with the Oceania servers in the final stages.

Here are the two obstacles for implementing additional servers and data centers:

  • Problem 1: Insufficient Servers Due to Semiconductor ShortageThe COVID-19 pandemic has seen an extreme drop in semiconductor production in factories across the globe. This, coupled with an increase in demand for electronics due to more people working at home, has resulted in an international shortage of semiconductors that, in turn, has resulted in a prolonged delay in the delivery of the servers we ordered for our data centers.

We have even looked into investing more than market value to speed up delivery, but to no avail. We are not giving up, however, and are in continued talks with vendors from around the world to find a timely solution to this problem.

  • Problem 2: Travel RestrictionsAs we touched upon briefly at the Digital Fan Festival, global travel restrictions due to the pandemic have prevented our server infrastructure team from physically visiting the data center locations, causing a considerable reduction in work efficiency. While over the past year and a half the team has managed to work remotely with overseas staff on the Oceania data center, it has been a challenge—a challenge that our staff will have to face once again as we look to expand server capacity in Europe or North America. That said, many members of the team have been proactively getting their COVID vaccinations and are looking into options such as vaccine passports as we plan for in-person visits to data centers. Of course, even should the opportunity to travel arise, we will respect each staff member’s opinion on the matter and put their safety first.

Hopefully, this gets sorted soon, so players can jump into the RPG. Speaking of which, check out the roadmap for the rest of 2021, as well as the latest title update released earlier today.

Report: Battlefield 2042 Teaser Uncovers Valparaiso Map From Bad Company 2

Earlier today, the official Battlefield Twitter account teased a short clip of garbled images that was released to tease the new game mode set to be revealed during EA Play Live on July 22.

As it turns out, this teaser features one of the maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 — Valparaiso! Reddit user VickeP_ (thanks, DANNYonPC) has managed to make sense of it all, and yep, it is Valparaiso! VickerP_ booted Bad Company 2 up, and took a screenshot of it, and well, take a look at it for yourself.

If you want to see things from the teaser image and the map image to be literally circled out for you, then, here ya go!

Of course, this isn’t really that surprising given Ripple Effect Studios (formerly DICE LA), has already confirmed that we’ll be seeing fan-favorite Battlefield maps in this new mode. Speaking of which, make sure to check out our list of 15 Battlefield maps we want to see remade in Battlefield 2042!

We’re keeping our eyes peeled whether the other images will show something else, too!

Don’t forget, EA Play Live is set for this July 22 where DICE and EA wil officially reveal the mode. We’ll be sure to post the relevant Battlefield info once it’s available, so make sure to keep your crosshairs locked here on MP1st!
