Modern Warfare Remastered Multiplayer Movement Will Stay True To The Original, Dedicated Servers Confirmed

This Fall, you’ll be playing Call of Duty like it’s 2007. With the help of Raven Software, Infinity Ward is bringing back the groundbreaking multiplayer experience from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and updating it with modern graphics and better performance.

During this week’s major Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare reveal, we learned that a downloadable copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will be included in every Legacy, Legacy Pro, and Digital Deluxe Edition of the game when it launches this Fall.

We’re still hungry for more details on multiplayer, but here’s what we know so far, courtesy of a recently published FAQ from Activision.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will have a full multiplayer progression system that is separate from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s. You’ll be able to unlock weapons, perks, weapon attachments, and reach Master Prestige, just like the original. Unfortunately, your stats from the original will not carry over.

There’ll be 10 maps at launch, including “Crash,” “Backlot” and “Crossfire,” with more to be announced “soon.” The movement system will stay true to the original game, but we’re not yet sure how deep that goes. Activision also says that the game will run on dedicated servers.

As for where and how to get it, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is only available through the Legacy, Legacy Pro, and Digital Deluxe editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. You must also own Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in order to play it and it will only be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

There’ll be more to come at E3 2016, so keep your eyes open. Excited to revisit classic Call of Duty multiplayer?

IW Designer Talks Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Multiplayer – New Tactical & Lethal Equipment, Maps In Space

With Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, developer Infinity Ward is taking the franchise on a trip through unexplored territory. Especially for the multiplayer team, the game’s far future setting offers new possibilities and opportunities for gameplay and much more.

With plenty more information still to come, Joe Cecot, Lead Designer on Infinite Warfare multiplayer, shared a few of the ways that the game’s setting will impact multiplayer during today’s live stream reveal, including maps and a few new mechanics.

“We can kind of make new toys, create new mechanics, and we can take players to places they’ve never been before,” Cecot explained. “You know, we have some really good multiplayer maps that take place on Earth but we also have a multiplayer map up in a space station. We have multiplayer maps on other planets within our solar system.”

You might be able to catch a glimpse of what some of Infinite Warfare’s outer space maps might look like by checking out some of the scenes in the game’s reveal trailer from earlier today.

There’s more, too. “We have kind of a whole new stable of lethals and tacticals for the player to kind of engage with and to try and you’re going to see some of that in our upcoming trailers and it’s pretty spectacular,” Cecot added.

Though the temptation to go over the edge with crazy new gameplay mechanics is probably on Infinity Ward’s mind, the multiplayer team is paying close attention to what the series is best known for. Cecot also mentioned the studio’s new inspiration for map design.

“We work closely with the campaign team and they work closely with us, so a lot of tech went into the Jackal and the flying and we have that tech in MP, but we’re very, very careful to preserve the core, the core of what makes Call of Duty the best shooter out there.”

“Our team plays a ton of Black Ops 3 — we watch it on the CWL — and we’ve gotten to build off kind of [Treyarch’s] map design and what they learned. So, it’s really, I think, hitting the mark and it is future but it’s still the Call of Duty that you love.”

More details on Infinite Warfare are being saved for a later date, so be sure to stick around for E3 2016. For now, you can watch the full live stream reveal over on Call of Duty’s official YouTube channel.

What sort of direction do you want to see Infinity Ward take Infinite Warfare’s multiplayer?

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Reveal Trailer & Modern Warfare Remastered Gameplay

Activision and Infinity Ward have officially revealed Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, putting this past week’s list of rumors and leaks to rest.

The game will be the studio’s seventh major Call of Duty title since the series’ inception. Though, instead of directly following up with a sequel to 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, it looks like Infinity Ward is after a fresh start with an entirely new setting. Infinite Warfare takes place in the far future where you “fight against the Settlement Defense Front to defend our very way of life.”

Here’s a blurb from the official press release, including some details on multiplayer and the introduction of a co-operative zombies mode to Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty game.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare puts storytelling front and center in a rich, immersive narrative. Infinity Ward breaks new ground by exploring the weight of leadership and its responsibilities. In a desperate time of overwhelming adversity, the player, as Captain of their own warship, must take command against a relentless enemy. Experienced soldiers are thrust into extraordinary circumstances that will test their training and reveal their true character as they learn to lead and to make the hard decisions necessary to achieve victory. The game also introduces stunning, never before seen environments, new weaponry, and inventive player abilities to Call of Duty. The entire campaign – from boots-on-ground combat to piloting high speed space-fighters – occurs as a near seamless experience with few visible loading times, and delivers the hallmark, blockbuster franchise moments that fans love.

For online action, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare promises to strike with maximum impact in a world where every second counts as it delivers the future of warfare. The game’s Multiplayer mode features an evolution of Call of Duty’s movement system with an emphasis on front-line engagement. Additionally, Infinite Warfare will introduce an original cooperative Zombies mode that takes players on a wild ride through a new storyline with unique gameplay features and mechanics. More details about multiplayer and the new zombies experience will be announced at a later date.

That’s 9AM PST / 12PM PST / 4PM GMT. The message itself (below) is a bit ambiguous, but all signs point to a trailer or reveal of some sort taking place at that time.

Call of Duty 2016 – “Know Your Enemy” Teaser

Activision has quietly released a video teaser for the upcoming announcement of Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty game, rumored to be titled Infinite Warfare.

At the 0:07 mark, after the text “Nuk3town Offline,” the footage plays a mysterious “Settlement Defense Front” soldier telling his audience, “make no mistake, we will rip you from the history books.” Someone’s a tad pissed.

Activision has yet to confirm the official name for Call of Duty: 2016, but recent leaks strongly point to “Infinite Warfare” as the title and suggest that the shooter will launch on November 4 alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

Official teasers began yesterday via an update to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and a few cryptic tweets. They, along with today’s footage, pretty much confirm a very far future setting for Infinity Ward’s next big outing.

It’s also worth keeping an eye on Call of Duty’s Instagram page where you’ll find a few additional teaser images and the video featured above. Here’s a few new easter eggs found on Nuk3town, courtesy of Drift0r:

[youtube id=”uViCfkvHHzE”]

According to Jim Sterling, the reveal is set to happen on May 3rd, 2016.

What are your thoughts on the teaser?

Activision Kicks Off Call of Duty 2016 Marketing With Giant Spacsehips & Cryptic Logos

Hot on the tail end of this morning’s supposed Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare leak, Activision appears to have kickstarted Call of Duty 2016’s viral marketing campaign with an official teaser and a few major implications.

It comes in the form of an update to Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 which, as many fans have noticed, has altered the animation that plays during the end-of-match screen on the map Nuk3town. Now, the nuclear explosion that traditionally brings the match to a close has been replaced with a destructive blast of a giant spaceship warping into the atmosphere.

Yes. A giant spaceship.

We suggest taking a look at Drift0r’s breakdown:

[youtube id=”R-JGYuwu86g”]

While it’s hard to gather much information from the logos that are briefly flashed on the screen during the animation, the floating spacecraft and huge warp drive explosion clearly suggests a far-future setting involving space travel and, quite likely, space combat.

Thanks to a tweet from professional baseball pitcher David Price, we’re certain that the teaser is indeed linked to Call of Duty 2016. Below, he is pictured with a t-shirt sporting the same logo featured in the teaser above, along with the caption “enlist.”

It’s also worth noting the additional logo on the other shirt that appears to say something like “IW7.”

Call of Duty: Infinity Warfare, as it’s allegedly called, is rumored to launch on November 4, 2016 along with a special ‘Legacy Edition’ of the game that will feature a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Developing…

New Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Leak Confirms Multiplayer For Modern Warfare Remake

There is no shortage of excitement for Activision and Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty game as information continues to leak ahead of the game’s official world reveal.

Earlier this week, the PlayStation Store let it slip that Infinity Ward’s next project will be called Call of Duty: Infinity Warfare, a play on the studio’s name itself. Soon after, fans got their first look at a leaked pre-order poster, revealing the possible release date, logo, and exciting bonus content for the shooter.

Today, an even clearer image of yet another poster has popped up on reddit, suggesting that the game will ship in two different packages — the Standard Edition and the Legacy Edition — at two different prices.

YRauKHK

Before you get too worked up about the cost for the Standard and Legacy Editions of the game, keep in mind that they are likely in Canadian dollars. $79.99 CAD is generally what your neighbours up in the north pay for video games. The release date format of day/month/year also falls in line with Canada’s.

If the poster — which certainly looks real — is to be believed, only the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare will ship with a digital download “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.” Though only the PlayStation 4 version is shown, there doesn’t appear to be anything that suggests the add-on will be exclusive to Sony’s platform. Also, much to the relief of those dying to revisit Modern Warfare’s multiplayer or experience it for the first time on modern gaming hardware, the poster also indicates that the remastered version will deliver 10 multiplayer maps alongside the full campaign.

All that to say that nothing has been made official by either Activision or Infinity Ward just yet, but an announcement of some sort is likely right around the corner. EA recently slapped a date on the official world premier of its next Battlefield game.

EA To Premier “The Future Of Battlefield” In Reveal Event Next Week

Video game publisher Electronic Arts is gearing up to reveal “a first look at the future of Battlefield” in a special “world premier” event next week on May 6.

The studio announced the surprise this morning, giving followers of the historical franchise a time and date that they can likely expect to learn more about the next Battlefield game due out this Fall.

According to the series’ newly updated website, the event begins at 1PM PST / 4PM EST / 9PM BST on Friday, May 6. Community members and YouTube content creators will also be on hand to deliver their first impressions. Here’s the accompanying tweet from the official Battlefield twitter:

Little is known about the next Battlefield project, other than members of the DICE team are involved and that the setting will be “a return to a Battlefield military-style game,” says EA’s CFO. Whether that means a continuation of the modern military theme, a return to a World War II setting, or a jump forward to a futuristic theater of war is still up in the air, but we can’t wait to find out next Friday.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Poster Reveals Release Date & ‘Modern Warfare Remastered’ Add-On

Following yesterday’s PlayStation Store leak that revealed the name for Infinity Ward’s upcoming Call of Duty game, sightings of pre-order marketing material are now telling us the title’s launch date, along with some other exciting news.

An alleged Target pre-order card for the game was recently spotted by a snapchat user on reddit who shared the following image, revealing the game’s logo, release date, and inclusion of a remastered version of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

146173739117

Thanks, Qal!

The shot above is of the “Legacy Edition” of the game which the card says will launch on Friday, November 4 of 2016 and will include a digital download of Infinity Ward’s original Modern Warfare game.

Here’s different shot of the “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” logo from another reddit user:

mnFOq7a

Activision has neither confirmed nor denied any of the rumors and sightings as of this writing, though as we mentioned in last night’s story, it’s likely that we’re not too far off from hearing something official.

As big fans of the original Modern Warfare, we sure hope it’s all true. Now, what do you think of the Infinite Warfare cover? Is that a space suit helmet?

Call of Duty 2016 Is Called “Infinite Warfare,” According To PSN Leak

Developers at Infinity Ward, creators of the Call of Duty series, are allegedly — and quite fittingly — calling their next Call of Duty game “Infinite Warfare.”

This is according to a slip up on Sony’s part who leaked the name earlier this morning via a PlayStation Store update. One reddit user spotted the listing and took this screen cap before it was removed:

PE4DKHR

The page itself lead to nothing but a blank screen, providing no information or images.

Late April to early May is typically the time of year publisher Activision chooses to raise excitement levels for the next Call of Duty game with an official teaser of some sort. Conveniently enough, we’re nearly there, if not already its midst. In fact, the global reveal trailer for Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was launched exactly one year ago today on April 26, 2015.

Provided the recent PSN leak doesn’t derail any of Activision’s marketing plans, Infinity Ward, developer on Call of Duty 2016, is bound to drop a hint or two for its current project in the coming days. According to the latest rumors, retailers will start listing the game on May 3.

If it ends up checking out, what are your thoughts on the name? Will Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare be Infinity Ward’s magnum opus? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Introducing Blackroom’s Kickstarter, a New FPS from Romero & Carmack

Hot off the presses today is the Kickstarter project reveal of BLACKROOM, a visceral, action-packed FPS set in a holographic simulation gone rogue. The game has a rough release date of Winter 2018 for the PC.

It comes from the co-creator of Doom and Quake, John Romero, along with fellow id Software founder, Adrian Carmack, who plan to deliver “a new FPS that harkens back to classic shooter gameplay.”

BLACKROOM is the FPS you have been waiting for: a return to fast, violent and masterful play on the PC. In BLACKROOM, you reign supreme in a variety of multiplayer modes, including co-op, 1-on-1 deathmatch and free-for-all arena in a motley mix of locations including hardcore military sims, hellish infernos and interstellar space. If you prefer a single-player experience, delve into an intense 10+ hour campaign, spanning wildly varied environments, from ruined Victorian mansions to Wild West ghost towns to treacherous pirate galleons and beyond.

Here is a lovely chart showcasing all the pledges:

You can catch the pitch trailer above and back the project here.

How much do you think is enough to back this project. Does BLACKROOM have the chance to fill the void there is today in “classic” arena shooter gameplay?

Gears of War 4’s Rotating DLC Maps Will Be Free, Unlocks Cards Will Mimic Halo 5’s REQ Packs

With Gears of War 4, The Coalition it opting to take a slightly different route when it comes to free and paid multiplayer DLC.

Instead of providing every bit of post-launch content for free or locking all of it behind a pay wall, The Coalition plans to deliver one DLC map at a time for a limited time on a monthly rotation. That means everyone will get to play on the same DLC map for one month before it’s replaced by another DLC map in the cycle.

Beyond that, there’ll still be the option to buy all of the new maps in order to use them in private matches. The Coalition says that only the host will need to own them in order for other lobby members to play on them. At launch, there’ll be ten multiplayer maps in total.

In addition, much like Halo 5: Guardians’ REQ packs, Gears of War 4 will feature cards that can be earned or paid for that will unlock customization options and other bonuses. Each crate will deliver five cards, some of which are consumable and others that are permanent.

Gears of War 4’s closed multiplayer beta starts this Monday, April 18, for anyone who played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. On the April 24, it’ll open up to all players on Xbox Live, finally closing on May 1.

What do you think of the approach The Coalition is taking towards Gears of War 4 DLC? Does it sound fair?

Star Wars Battlefront To Get 6 More DLC Heroes & New Offline Modes

More Star Wars Battlefront content is headed your way, both free and paid, that developer DICE and publisher EA outlined in a recent news update.

According to the post, future content for the Star Wars shooter will include new in-game events like double score weekends, community missions, and “Special Login Events.” There’ll also be new Hutt Contracts to complete that will unlock Star Cards like the Berserker Trait, Bacta Bomb, and Ion Neutralizer. On May 4th, the official day for all things Star Wars, DICE is also planning on throwing in a few “cool activities” that will be announced soon.

Perhaps best of all, new offline modes are also on the way, though the studio kept quiet on the details. Either way, all of the aforementioned will be delivered free of charge. As for Season Pass content, here’s what’s in store:

  • Battlefront Bespin DLC
    • Four new maps for Battlefront’s most popular modes
    • More blasters
    • New Star Cards
    • New game mode
    • Two new characters — Lando Calrissian and Dengar
  • Battlefront Death Star DLC
    • Two new characters
    • & more
  • Battlefront Unnanounced DLC
    • Two new characters
    • & more

If you’re keeping count, that’s eight new characters in total, including the recently launched Outer Rim DLC.

Whether you’ve lost interest in DICE’s latest shooter or not, there appears to be enough new content on the horizon that should get any Star Wars fan excited. In what setting do you suspect Battlefront’s fourth and final DLC will take place? Hit us up in the comments!
